"Great hotel but dissapointed the bar upstairs was closed"
Lovely hotel. We went for my boyfriends birthday and spent 3 nights here. I cannot fault the room - it was perfect for us, loved the toiletries in the bathroom too. The only thing that was annoying was that the bar on the roof wasn't open. We were looking forward to having a drink and seeing the view. Will stay here again though as it was close to Retiro Park and the train station.
This is a great location. I stayed 3 nights with my grown up mchildren. Booked 2 rooms, Very comfy beds, Value foe money kind of ahotel. Staff are friendly and polite. We were not worried too much about the view through the window as we were basically out whole day.Close to two metro stations. All interesting places in the city are a walking distance from this hotel. Loads of eating places around.
"Not a 4 star."
This became a disastrous hotel. I did not remember that the hotel was this bad during my last visit many years ago. The room smells like a deo mixed with sweat. I am only 1 person they gave me a real triple room with 3 beds. No coffee/tea facility in the rooms. This service is only provided in the junior suites... if you want hot water you can 'borrow from the bar' as per the receptionist. Rooms are decorated with no taste and no sense. Walls are dirty. Stains on the floor in the bathroom. Never again!
Booked room after reading reviews on TA. Opted for a room with balcony . Stayed during the week. Room on 7th floor below the lounge--was not aware of activities above except for what might have been chairs scraping on the floor --no other noise. Having balcony was a boon and worth the cost, able to sit out during the day and evening and relax. Balcony opened onto Atocha street-restaurants, etc but was not disturbing even on Friday evening Bathroom was large and well appointed with towels and toiletries. Closet space a bit sparse--more shelves than hanging space. Luggage had to be stored around the room. Otherwise very comfortable. Heat/air condition system bit wacky. Very cool in the room upon arrival. Unable to adjust warmer--opened door to balcony to warm up. Request to front desk resulted in adjustment that day. Room was warmer when we returned but again unable to adjust thermostat to accept cooler/warmer setting. Did not make another request as preferred to be warmer than cold and it was not hot in Madrid.(high 70's) Location: excellent. Walkable even with luggage to train station/bus to airport. HOHO bus right at corner of street. Many restaurants near by. Close to museums, botanical garden. Suggest opt for 2 day ticket on HOHO if walking distances is a problem--can get to most sites that way. Tickets can be purchased on bus as well as vendors on street. HOHO does stop running abt 10 pm. It just stops at that time or slightly before wherever the stop is. So plan your late evening trips with this in mind. Wifi- free with our room. Speed good. Check if available with all rooms (not sure if this hotel or another restricted free wifi to more costly rooms). Gym in basement--small. As female, was not comfortable being down there alone.
"No complaints here..."
Hotel is in a good location. Short walk to restaurants, delis and the Hop-on Hop-off buses. Friendly staff. Clean and comfortable room. No problems with the Wi-Fi or air conditioning. Ice is available at the bar. There's something for every one at the breakfast buffet. We would not hesitate to stay here again. Great deli, eat cheap: Exit the front door and walk left. Turn left at McDonalds. The deli is a few store fronts from the corner. Excellent sandwiches.
