The Savoy Hotel Petit Palace Alfonso XII is located on the historic street of Alfonso XII, in the prestigious area of El Retiro, between the Puerta de Alcalá and Ave-Atocha train station, and just 100 meters from the Prado and Reina Sofia Museums.
Zeer rustig hotel. Op wandelafstand van het drukke centrum, gelegen aan een prachtig pakr.Comment of D. Els , Belgium the 2014-08-24

Very nice reception staff, all of them super helpful and knowledgeable. The room was well appointed and quiet. Very clean. Breakfast was adequate for the price, the service was all right.Comment of F. Tilo , Belgium the 2014-06-03
The receptionist was very kind and gave us a perfect room with a view at Ritero park. The l0cation of the hotel is perfect, very nice area of the city with good restaurants and shops.Comment of V. Colette , Netherlands the 2013-11-25
We had a fantastic stay at this hotel! The location is great - almost everything is walkable. The Retiro Park is beautiful and right across the street. The hotel itself was modern, upscale and we would stay there again in a heartbeat.
"Average for a four star hotel"
It is fair to say that the employees are great at all times. Location in my opinion is perfect. If you like going jogging is a perfect spot, just in front of El Retiro and quite close to the city center (walking distance to me). A big disappointment to me is breakfast. Variety is fair but the quality of the products is low. Not fresh juices, canned tomato for "pan con tomate", pastries looked from some other day, etc...and the breakfast room has many chairs broken or without cushion. Looks like nobody cares. For a four star hotel it needs a big improvement over breakfast. Precisely because breakfast is not cheap. Room is ok although quite narrow. Bathroom is narrow and you wash your hands within the room, at least in my case. But what I found quite bad for a four star hotel was the toilet paper. Less than low qualitity. In conclusion, prices for a four start hotel that doesn´t match its offerings. And again, employees are excellent.
"Enjoyed the stay"
Selected this hotel to stay based on the good reviews. We stayed at the junior suite, which had a good view of the park. The bulk bed was kind of fun for the kids to share and climb. There was a laptop in the room to use, a bonus, wish that the internet speed could have been faster. The front desk staff were very friendly and trying their best to help. They called to make reservations for dinners and show for us during our stay. Be aware that restaurants typically opens from 1 to 4 pm for lunch, and 8 pm to midnight for dinner. We got trouble finding a place to eat between 4 and 8 pm one day. Good news is that the cafe at the hotel opens during odd hours so that you can get a sandwich. Tasted good. Breakfast food choices were plenty and qualities were good. Location is central and good for visiting museums, within short walking distance. A very good hotel to stay in Madrid.
"Nice hotel, BUT...."
I had a very nice room, the personal was very friendly and the service was great. The hotel is located quite well near to the Retiro park. I left something in my room. The receptionist located it and I asked if they could send it back to me. That's when I was told that the hotel wouldn't offer such service. As a frequent traveller it happens every now and then that you forget something. This is why I won't use any petit palace hotel again!
"Excellent start to our Spanish vacation"
We have just spent 5 weeks in Southern Spain near Marbella and in that time we have visited various restaurants, taken tours and all in all enjoyed ourselves immensely. So it was a fabulous start to our vacation to stay for two nights at the Petit Palacio Savoy Alfonso XII. On arrival we were greeted by the reception staff who were extremely courteous. The young lady couldn't be more helpful. We got our keys and up to our room overlooking the Retiro Park. And what a view it was! Rooms on that side of the hotel are above the main road but the double paned glazing in the room kept out all the traffic noise. The room is furnished in a modern way, bed was very comfortable and the bathroom with its rain shower and massage shower was first class. We decided to get a breath of fresh air having flown direct from Miami overnight so after a quick shower - I could have stood in the rain show for hours! we went across the road to the Retiro Park. I will write a separate review on the park but suffice to say it was well worth visiting. The hotel offers a portable Wi-Fi machine which is excellent for making sure your mobile phone can then pick up Google Maps and you never will get lost. The hotel is in a good location close to the Prado and about a mile from Atocha Station. It makes for very pleasant walking to stroll around the area looking at the central Madrid architecture, stopping off at cafes for coffee or una cerveza and some tapas perhaps! The breakfast which is served in the basement - former kitchens of the Palace - was also excellent and filled us up for the day ahead. All in all congratulations to the staff. I would not hesitate on returning and I highly recommend the hotel Our vacation took in some great restaurants in Madrid, Marbella, Puerto Banus, Benahavis, Gibraltar and all will be reviewed. We also visited small towns and villages of Mijas, Casares, and Arcos de la Frontera to sample the local Andalucian lifestyle so all those are to come on Trip Advisor. Hasta luego!
