"Traditional Styling in Santiago"
I had a quick stop in Santiago so chose the Plaza San Francisco since it looked to be in a good downtown location near 2 metro stations and close to several attractions like La Moneda Palace, the Municipal Theater, Cerro Santa Lucia. Plaza de Armas is further away, but I found still within walking distance from the hotel. There’s a lot of dark wood and traditional styling in the lobby and rooms. My room included a large closet with shelves, minibar, in-room safe, writing desk, lounging chair, flat-screen TV, and free wi-fi. It was quiet in the room despite being on a low floor and facing the busy avenue. The room was clean, comfortable and felt cozy, though somewhat cramped because of the 2 large beds. The bathroom included a large bathtub/shower but still had ample room to move around. The hotel includes a good restaurant where a large breakfast buffet is also served in the mornings. Service in general was very good from the staff at the front desks, in the lobby, at the door, and in the restaurant. I enjoyed the short visit to Santiago and my stay at the Plaza San Francisco.
"Great Hotel in perfect location"
We stayed here twice four nights before our trip to Easter Island and two nights afterwards. We stayed the first time in a Junior Suite which was absolutely lovely. The downside was that it was located over the front lobby where many people gather to smoke which permeated into our room. On our return we could not stay in another Junior Suite because they are all in the same location. The deluxe room wasn't nearly as nice. The Bistro restaurant is inside the front lobby area and the smoke wafted in there as well. Our first stay was over Christmas and we had a lovely Christmas dinner. The breakfasts were extremely good with plenty of choice. The staff were very helpful and nice. We would have rated the hotel as excellent if it had not been for the smoking issue. We would suggest moving the smoking area away from the front entrance.
"Olde World Hotel with all the facilities."
As soon as you walk through the doors of this hotel it is like being whisked back in time, I am not saying that it is dated I am referring to the quality and nature of the service that the hotel provides, as you approach the entrance there is a doorman to open the door for you and take your bags, the check in is at a large desk rather than a counter, the lobby is large and airy with wood panelled walls, a bar as well as a bistro to while away the time. Our room was more like a suite with lots of room and storage space as well as a large airy bathroom. The hotel is well located on Liberator O' Higgins which is a main thoroughfare even though the street address is Alameda 816 and is set back from the road in a small plaza. It is within walking distance of some great restaurants serving authentic Chilean food in the Santa Lucia district. The hotel includes breakfast which is buffet style and offers a broad range of choices. Breakfast is served in the restaurant which serves lunch and dinner however, although the food is exquisite, the prices are quite high. The staff are very courteous, efficient and friendly, my Wife left some clothing items in the room which the hotel returned by Fedex, all in all a great experience.
The location of this hotel is just great. You can reach most important tourist sites by just walking. The rooms are large and comfortable and the staff are friendly. Breakfast however is mediocre. The only unpleasant experience we had at the hotel was when we were checking out. That's when we found out that the bottled water that had been so conveniently placed in our room was not free. They charged us $US 8.00 (yes, eight Dollars) per small bottle of Evian for a total of $24 for 3 bottles. We could have bought a case of beer for $8.- at the supermarket across the street had we been made aware of the cost of bottled water. We felt totally ripped off and expressed our feelings to the front desk manager who apologized but explained that they were just following rules.
"A wonderful place to stay"
We traveled around the "Horn" and after leaving the cruse ship we were taken to the Plaza San Francisco for our stay in Santiago which had been organized by Condor Travel. When arriving the exterior had a 60's or 70's exterior which was OK but when we entered there were door men to open the doors, the lobby is spacious with a mahogany stained hardwood finish that extended to the back were the lobby bar was located. There is a waiting/reading/conversation area across from the reception desk with numerous sofas and chairs again with the hardwood finish. Staff was very helpful and set up any tours with good suggestions. The rooms were not the over the top type but more than adequate and comfortable. Not to be missed is the open bar on the 5th floor, which is outside, above the traffic. After the two drink and tapas special all the worries just disappear. This hotel is a very good value for the price. I would highly recommend it and would stay here again and not even consider other lodging.
