Arrived to find that extensive renovations were under way. Our room was adequate but somewhat run down. On our second night, we returned to our room in the early evening to find the power to the room was out. After 30 minutes wasted while repairs were carried out we were assured the problem was solved and out we went. We returned again at midnight to find the same problem. We were eventually told we would have to switch rooms, but were literally left completely in the dark to pack up our things and change rooms. Having to again visit reception because our new room keys didn't work, we were awoken at 8am to the melody of workmen renovating right outside our room. As compensation, all we were offered was a complimentary beer for the first power failure, and a complimentary breakfast for the second - which we were unable to accept due to prior plans. The staff seemed unmoved by our terrible experience. We felt bad for the guests checking in as we left. Would not recommend this hotel, although the roof terrace is nice for a drink.
We stayed for four nights in January and were delighted with this hotel. The rooms are charming, and the staff even more so. Nothing was too much trouble and they recommended a great restaurant for our first night. We spent many happy hours in the elegant bar, and although we didn't get to have a drink on the roof terrace, we did peer round the door, and in warmer weather this would have been a lovely place to sit. The hotel is really well located as well - just off Placa Catalunya, which is very central, just north of the port and the Gothic Quarter, and with a metro stop just nearby. The airport bus stops on the edge of the square. The only slight drawback was that our room, although lovely, overlooked a busy street. We had a balcony which was great but if I returned (and I hope I do!), I would probably ask for a room at the back of the hotel, as that may be quieter.
"Good hotel, Central location"
It is a nice place to stay, Rooms are quite small for the cost, well maintained. Location is excellent and close to most tourist spots. The balcony is quite small and did not find it of any interest. I was able to adjust the thermostat unlike some of the hotels in spain.
"Perfect combo of location, style and service at a reasonable price."
This is the kind of hotel I am always looking for which combines a reasonable price and a great location with other basic amenities of style, service, and cleanliness. The Pulitzer is a small hotel with relatively small rooms at a mid range price. It is not opulent or luxurious but is perfect if you will not spend a lot of time in your room. The lobby offers a very comfortable place to relax and the food is very good by American hotel standards. The staff really differentiates it however, as they are always proactively willing to assist.
"Superb boutique hotel in a great location"
Hotel is in a great location just 2 min walk from Placa Catalunya. This is a central location. Bar and lobby are a nice relaxation point to break up the tiring walking day. The rooftop patio is a nice quiet oasis. Rooms are modern.
