Nestled in the luscious green peace and tranquillity of Aventine Hill, The San Anselmo 4-star hotel is the ideal spot to escape the hustle and bustle of the city after an exciting day of shopping and sightseeing. Housed in a quaint building dating back to the early 1900s, the historic hotel showcases the traditional, subtle colours of Roman homes. From the first step into the reception area complete with family paintings and classic stone fireplace, the elegant decor and furnishings at The San Anselmo create a cosy atmosphere where guests can feel home.
Each of the spacious and welcoming rooms boast exquisite parquet, antique furniture and ornaments which complement the modern bathroom with Jacuzzi bathtub. In summer, The San Anselmo estate garden offers the perfect place to stimulate the senses with a rich continental breakfast surrounded by beautiful green scenery, birdsong and fragrant flowers.
Ideally located on Aventine Hill, one of the most exclusive residential areas in the city centre, The San Anselmo is just a few metres away from the spectacular San Anselmo Benedictine Convent, the beautiful Basilica of Santa Sabina, the Church of Santa Prisca, a masterpiece of Christian art, the romantic Giardino degli Aranci, as well as Circus Maximus. The San Anselmo is within easy reach of the underground station.

We had a wonderful experience, helped by the upgrade to room 829 which had panoramic views of the city. Thw Aventine hill area is classy, and within walking distance to all the main tourist attractions (40 minutes to the Vatican was the longest. This was a very special trip for my wife's 60th birthday , so thank you San Alesmo hotel. Whoever you used a an interior designer will one day be sitting at the right hand of the almighty, truly inspirational. Thanks againComment of R. Keith, United Kingdom the 2015-08-28
Stayed for 4 nights with my daughter we had a fabulous twin room with a terrace. This was our retreat after a long days sightseeing. The Circus Maximus and the Coloceum only 15/20 walk, and a very present walk. If I could add two things to the hotel it would be that they did an evening meal and had tea and coffee facilities in the room. I would recommend this hotel and would definitly stay there again.Comment of W. Yvonne, United Kingdom the 2014-10-16
A beautiful hotel in a very quiet location with good local restaurants. I have never slept so well at a hotel before. I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone visiting Rome.Comment of B. Lorraine, United Kingdom the 2014-10-13
Parfait dans l'ensemble salle de bain un peu petite, sinon bien, avec baignoire jacuzzi Sur la colline Aventino, situé entre le vieux et le jeune Rome! Bien pour sortir le soir...Comment of F. DAVID, France the 2014-09-21

This is a very lovely hotel in a quiet location not far from the ancient rome tourist sites. The rooms were small but tastefully decorated. On arrival we received prosecco and strawberries on the house which was a real treat. The breakfast rooms and reception rooms were lovely and complimentary cake and tea was available in the afternoons.Comment of W. Megan, United Kingdom the 2013-12-08

"Lovely quiet boutique hotel "
Stayed at this beautiful hotel for 5 nights from Christmas Eve in a deluxe room. We arrived using Rome Limousines for a private transfer at a cost of 49 Euros, which was a relaxing way to start our holiday. The hotel was very clean and tastefully decorated and furnished throughout and when returning to the hotel on an evening it was decorated with Christmas lights on the outside, which looked beautiful. Even though it was December we were extremely lucky to have lovely sunny days and clear nights and even sat outside in the entrance patio area of the hotel with a glass of prosecco and complimentary nibbles. Room 826 called Mille Baci is on the second floor at the front of the hotel. It has no balcony but has a lovely large bathroom with separate free standing bath and walk in shower with jets. Due to the large romantic bed and bathroom, the room appears a bit small but this wasn't a problem as there was still plenty of space for clothes in the wardrobe although a bit short on drawer space and there was more than enough room for lots of toiletries. We were also pleased that there was a safe in the room. My only surprise was that although slippers were provided there were no bathrobes and most of the hotels at which we have stayed when in a deluxe room or above have supplied bathrobes. The buffet breakfast is amazing with so much choice of both hot and cold food and there is definitely something for everyone. The staff at breakfast were very attentive and the coffee was amazing and limitless. As the hotel is situated on Aventine Hill in a nice quiet leafy district we soon walked off breakfast. We are both in our forties and relatively fit so we managed to walk to and from the centre of Rome twice a day, either through the streets or along the river to the Vatican, Castel Sant'Angelo, the Colosseum, the Forum, the Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon, I could go on and on as there is so much to see. The Aventine keyhole is about 200 metres from the hotel, which we were lucky to visit at night when it was quiet and see Saint Peters Dome lit up. There is also a garden full of orange trees very close to the hotel with amazing views of the city. All the hotel staff were pleasant, especially Vincenzo who was more than happy to assist with maps and details of public transport. We did use the tram on Christmas evening, which wasn't too far down the hill from the hotel and a taxi back from the Hotel Forum cost 12 Euros late at night. We also walked across the river to Trastevere, on an evening, which was supposed to be very lively and foody. It was very lively with plenty of restaurants but we were a bit disappointed with the food and service at the restaurant we chose (I'm sorry I can't remember the name), however we did find a great cocktail bar called Big Hilda, which had a very long "happy hour" every evening. We also walked to the Testaccio area just to have a look as we hadn't been to this area before, but unfortunately the restaurant we had decided to eat at was closed. The area was very quiet and bland, however we happened to stumble upon Da Bucatino. Although it didn't look much from the outside it was extremely busy throughout the evening with plenty of locals, great food and very reasonably priced. We ate at Il Falchetto on the evening of Christmas Eve, which was very nice and as it wasn't too far from the Pantheon we were able to go to Midnight Mass in the Pantheon. We dined at the Hotel Forum rooftop terrace on Christmas evening which was a wonderful experience. This was our third visit to Rome, a city I don't think we will ever tire of and we will most definitely stay at this hotel again. Thank you to all at Hotel San Anselmo for a memorable Christmas break.
"Oasis of stillness with the Intensity of Rome around the corner"
Location: The area in which Anselmo is located is a nice oasis of stillness! It's not in the absolute center of Rome, but a 15 min walk will get you to the Colosseum, and from there: go with the flow to visit some of the magnificent architecture Rome has to offer. Or head to the other side of the river for Trastevere, an area packed with restaurants and bars just a 10 minutes walk away. The room: On the smaller side. Very limited storing space(only one wardrobe). The bathroom however, is quite spacious. Minibar and a Desk with TV. Facilities: Breakfast was very tasty with a continental / Italian range. A small bar serves you the basic drinks and then some. Staff: Helpful and service minded. Conclusion: a very solid value-for-money hotel that I would visit again. "Picturesque and Beautiful"
Hotel san anselmo, Rome, what can I say except for exceptional, decadent and romanesque if that's a word, I stayed here on a surprise weekend away for my birthday and I was blown out of the water by this place, the staff are so friendly and willing to help with anything, the breakfast and food in general is very good, the coffee is amazing and the views and rooms are well above the stars it is awarded it's quiet and out of the hustle and bustle of central places but within a 15-20 min walk from the colosseum and every where is easily accessible from here, taxis are cheap but I recommend a scooter from bici baci in central rome no problem getting around with a scooter, also GET A TAXI from the airport it's a must otherwise you'll get lost like we did for 3 hours... anyway back to the hotel... it's dining room and bar area are very nicely decorated and furnished as so are the rooms, we stayed on the on ground floor and it had a jacuzzi bath and jetted shower also had a balcony with oranges growing fresh outside overlooking the courtyard and the bed was very comfortable all in all a beautiful hotel with great staff and I have already recommended friends and family to stay here of they go to Rome, STAY HERE IF YOU CAN this has my 100% recommendation and I'm not easily pleased. Thanks to everyone at Hotel San Anselmo for a great time
"What a find! Amazing"
Brilliant boutique hotel in a quiet Rome location. 5 minute taxi ride to Coliseum & 12 euro taxi to Trevi Fountain. Beautiful period property, opulent rooms, excellent attentive staff, popular with business as well as leisure travellers. Great breakfast buffet with a choice of hot & cold items. The staff are fantastic. The only downside is that they serve light bites & sandwiches but no dinner menu. Having said that there are several local restaurants & those visiting the city centre, there are many good restaurants to choose from.
This is the hotel where stories get life, so it's a beautiful place and a start to discover Rome. Every room has it's own beauty. It's the perfect place to be because you don't feel like you are in a hotel room. The only thing i didn't like was that the bar is too small and there is not a restaurant.
