"New Year in San Sebastian at the Amara Plaza"
This is the second time we have used this hotel and no doubt will use it again. The service, the cleanliness and the staff are excellent. We booked for six nights, covering the New Years Eve fete and had mistakenly booked a single room. Because the reception staff had noticed that we had booked for two people for the New Years Eve fete they had put a double room on standby in case it had been an error and not that one of us would be staying with friends. They could not have been more helpful. Although we had thought that the price of the fete was high we thoroughly enjoyed the whole evening (which ended for us when we gave up at 4.45am, although the party continued after we left). The food was excellent, as was the wine, the atmosphere and the entertainment. We can recommend this to anyone. The rooms are spacious and clean as are the bathrooms and there is plenty of hot water all day and night. The breakfasts are exceptional and include anything you could want including wine and cava('). The bar is cheap and the measures are large, the café has a good selection of tapas, and the restaurant serves a reasonable meal. The car parking is very good, underground with two floors allocated to hotel guests and direct access to the reception floor. The hotel is a good half hours walk into the town centre (albeit a very easy and pleasant walk) but there are 2 bus services from just over the road which take you directly into the town at a cost of less than 2 euros. A thoroughly enjoyable stay and thank you to the reception staff for their kindness and assistance.
"Christmas in San Sebastian"
The Amara is a very convenient hotel in San Sebastian....good parking and plenty of small cafes and bars close by...about a 10-15 minute walk to the beach through beautiful steets. The Hotel has good service, large rooms and friendly personal. We stayed 3 days with no problems. For "Internet Users" their "free internet" was poor at best. It's a public service (RUBI) and not secure....for doing anything secure this is a "Unsat" provider. The Small Cafe in the Hotel is very average...food served cold and looked like it was prepared a couple of days back. The "best" was the morning Breakfast Buffet....just great! Everything you could want and really well done...this makes up for all else. For easy of coming and going I recommend this Hotel....just eat out and don't expect to have easy internet. Parking is 19 Euros for 24 hours and connects to hotel...easy entry and exit...A fun time in San Sebastian...
A comfortable room and I especially liked the two heavy doors to the bathroom and the corridor for good sound insulation. More hotels should do this. Also the variety offered by the buffet breakfast was most appreciated when staying a while a fixed menu can soon get tedious. This hotel is very handy for the University, but a good walk into town.
"Nice hotel, great service!"
We were only here for 1 night but had a very pleasant stay. The room was very good and the staff were kind and helpful - in particular Esther/Esta who was EXCELLENT and she very kindly arranged to courier some clothes to the UK which the other half had forgotten in the wardrobe of our room! Gracias!!
"The real San Sebastian"
The Silken Amara Plaza hotel was an unexpected delight. Having read several reviews regarding the location being a little outside the "real action" of San Sebastian, we were pleased we stayed here as we got a taste of the "real San Sebastian" slightly away from the tourist strip. There are many excellent features to this hotel: great value for money; a delicious and diverse breakfast buffet; and well designed rooms where there are two doors between the bedroom and bathroom and also to the outside. This creates a bit of privacy that is often missing in hotels. The staff were very helpful. We loved the location. It is about 10 minutes walk along the river to the old town and on the way you can spend time in the cafes and restaurants that are frequented by the locals. A laundromat is close by, allowing for a freshen up if needed! We felt we got more of a sense of what San Sebastian is really like by staying here and yet it is a short and pleasant walk to the more touristy areas. I agree that the wi-fi is slow - but we were there for a break so it wasn't a big deal. You can pay for an upgrade if faster wi-fi is required. We would definitely stay again.
