"Looks trendy but not comfortable"
We stayed at the Solamar for a few days. My husband had work meetings and we thought we'd tag on a family trip. We didn't actually pick the hotel, the company did for my husband. First I'd like to say, the staff is very nice and accommodating. They do work hard to make you happy. The decor is really trendy. The location and accessibility to everything is perfect. However, when it comes to comfort, they dropped the ball. The rooms are okay. I'd say it's a utilitarian type of room. Basic. The bathroom was small. The shower reminded me of something you'd find at a Hampton Inn or a place along those lines. It just looked cheap. The beds are hard (which I didn't mind). The pillows were horrible! They felt like they were literally stuffed with cotton balls. Not very comfortable for good nights sleep. I saw quite a few people with dogs, so I think it's pet friendly. The restaurant attached, JSix, is nice. We had dinner there and a breakfast. The food was good and they had a great kids menu. They made a great cheese sandwich! They have a variety on their menu so you can get something really nice or a burger. I got the sea bass over a pork adobo... it was ok. For the price and location, I'd say it's a good buy. Maybe not first choice with kids but it can work. Just bring your pillow!
We just checked out of this hotel and wanted to compliment the Hotel Solamar on such a well run business. Every employee we had any contact with was unbelievably professional, friendly and helpful. The housekeeper on our floor (9) was especially friendly and kind. Her name was Shearrie and she is an asset to this business. She truly went the extra mile with her friendliness and joy of life. Thank you so much for a great hotel experience.
"good city centre hotel in lovely city"
This was a good hotel right in the centre of the action in San Diego a wonderful city to visit We had a good corner room, a little bit dated and the lighting could have been a bitbetter. Very good, friendly and helpful staff. Excellent breakfast. For only $10 extra you could upgrade to an excellent and full breakfast professionally made and served Nice to have a free drink in the bar every evening Everything in walking distance or use the local inexpensive buses Really convenient airport for those arriving from Europe and have heard nightmares about security queues m
"Great location for business meeting"
The hotel location is convenient for access to the airport, harbor, shopping and many dining options. The area is very walkable and the rooms are nicely appointed with distinctive features -pocket door to bathroom, interesting mirror and light fixtures, plush towels, bathrobes, excellent wifi. King sized bed was a bit firm but overall the room was very comfortable and quiet.
"Nice Hotel, Outstanding Location"
The Solamar was located perfectly downtown, especially for the convention center. Located in the GasLamp district you are close to a multitude of bars and restaurants. The hotel has a decent lobby. The 4th floor rooftop bar and pool are very nice. They have cabanas as well if you want to marinate out of the sun. The gym is small but has all the cardio you will need, some weights. The equipment needs to updating. The room was very spacious and comfortable. The bed was a little springy, but acceptable. Overall a good stay and i would stay there again. The staff was very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful.
