"Near Petco Park. Near 5th Avenue. Near Convention Hall."
A good downtown location. Have stayed at the Solamar before. Was excited to learn the hotel had been recently renovated. And disappointed when we got to our room. The sleek style we love from Kimpton properties is now much more ornate. Bathrobes were missing from our room. The 5pm wine tasting is still a wonderful end to the day and start to the evening. Team at the front desk was helpful and accommodating. Lots of good solid recommendations.
"Very comfortable hotel with a little glitzyiness"
Spent three very comfortable nights here. Received a very warm and helpful welcome from the concierge and had doors opened for us every time we went in/out the hotel. All,staff we met very friendly and polite. Lovely spacious well appointed room and bathroom, very comfortable bed. We had breakfast coupons entitling us to juice, coffee, fruit bowl and choice of scone, muffin, English muffin, toast; upgrade to American breakfast menu available. The complementary drinks and canapés at 5pm were fun with the lovely Elena keeping our glasses well topped up - canapés were very nice but perhaps insufficient for the number of guests who attend. We had a few evening menu snacks which were tasty and of reasonable size (Hummus; nuts) but didn't eat an actual meal so can't comment on the food. Swimming pool area is pleasant but not so good during our stay due to noisy building works on the next building but obviously this is a temporary irritation. Ideally placed for exploring this wonderful city and would definitely return!
"Nice Stay in the Gaslamp"
The Kimpton Solamar a very nice low key place to stay in the Gaslamp, perfect for a Padre game or just visiting downtown San Diego. Service is great. All employees we interacted with were very nice and accommodating. We stayed on a weekend and it was lovely. I like the lobby, it's very welcoming and they serve wine and beer at five pm and coffee in the morning. If you need a coffee maker like I do, they will send up a keurig for you at no charge. The bathroom was small but functioned well. Bring your own q-tips because there are no bath amenities. They have large refillable shower gel, shampoo and conditioner, just the minimum so if you are looking for a shower cap, you wont find one here. No robe, no slippers, no bar soap. There is a fridge, but you can't use it for your stuff, its for their stuff. I am no fan of the minibar and I am surprised they still exist. At least Kimpton hides it all so you don't have to have the ten dollar cheese its and whats its staring you in the face taking up all the real estate on your dresser. Room decor is dark, but its very tasteful and pretty. They are dog friendly and it's great to see all the dogs in the morning going out for their walk. If you can help it, don't bring a car, parking is $50.00. We just took Uber or walked. The pool is kind of an afterthought at this hotel but they are scheduled to redo that area. As for noise, I was worried about the night club noise issue, but we were luckily placed on an upper floor so had no issues. it was actually quiet. Bed was ok, I slept well. Wifi worked fine. J-Six has great food and there was no wait for breakfast on a weekend. All and all a great stay, would stay again.
"Top class hotel."
Well located in the historic gas-lamp quarter, so all the nice eating places are within walking distance. Friendly and helpful staff from check-in to checkout. Wi-Fi is free and the beds are very comfortable. This is my second time there and will definitely be there again.
"Super Friendly Hotel"
This was our first time staying at the Solamar Kimpton San Diego - we'll definitely stay here again!! Very friendly and helpful check in - we were given a comp upgrade to a top floor corner room overlooking Petco Park The room was spacious - spotless - (cute notes daily from Tina the cleaner made us giggle every after noon) Even though the hotel was used on this occasion for a corp event - public pool areas were still accessible and space was available to enjoy a drink by one of the many fire pits Overnight parking came in at just under 50 USD per night The SUV was safe, and not needed. So that was fine Door staff were very helpful with directions Nice to see that such a large chain of hotels was also pet friendly - we noticed water bowls and a cushion were part of the service + a welcome note on arrival for the pet We were given a comp drinks voucher for happy hour at JSix bar We didn't use it and reception took it off the final bill - thank you nice gesture JSix a little lifeless after happy hour Gr8 place to stay gr8 location, staff and room - thank you
