Service Excellent, Location Perfect, Great Quality - this is a great place to stay, the building is architecturally beautiful, and the staff are friendly and professional. I would highly recommend this hotel.
"Not great for business travellers"
While staff are polite and room was ok, service was poor. The bellman did not offer any assistance upon arrival, despite the fact that the lobby was empty and he was just standing in the doorway. The front desk did not provide any info on facilities. My office had sent an email for the front desk to print - apparently they have a 30 year old printer - could barely make out the letters! My room had a nice work desk but no phone on the desk, just one by the bed. I asked for another phone for the desk - it never arrived. I asked for a room service menu and was told they would send one up - and was then told that they don't have room service menus. While my burger was good, I had to call 3 times to have my tray removed. I asked to speak to the front desk manager, but he never called back - perhaps he can read this review instead! Very few of the staff speak much English. Back to Le Germain on my next visit - nicer room and far better service.
Great accomodating staff. I especially enjoyed the advice and hospitality of the new manager. I stayed 2 nights. The breakfast is amazing. Ask for the omlett. It is walking distance to old quebec. It was a very pleasant stay.
I booked two rooms here Nov 13th. At check-in they said they had upgraded my brother's room so he could be next door to us which was very nice. After check in they called the room to see if it was okay and then sent up bottled water, as we are Starwood Gold members. I thought those were nice touches. The room on the 9th floor was nice and was very quiet. I like the decor, it is plain but well done. The carpet area looked a bit rough as the carpet in the hallways and I would suggest that is the decor they need to work on. Otherwise nice big room, nice toiletries and a coffee machine. The hotel is in a good location on the edge of old Montreal, so lots of restaurants nearby and you can walk to everything. The one area that the hotel must improve on is the parking. Before checking in I ran into the hotel and asked where the parking was. The ladies at the front desk said they had valet parking. I didn't want valet so I asked where there were parking lots nearby. They suggested there was one around the corner, but couldn't say the price or much about it. We checked out the lot she suggested, but there was no way to determine if it was 24 hour parking and the price. We left and ended up driving around for at least 30 min for parking which was very frustrating, especially considering it is Montreal and there is construction everywhere and a million one-way streets.. Finally we parked in the convention centre parking complex a few blocks away. Suggest the front counter find out about parking, what is nearby, is it 24 hours or not and be able to guide people. Would have saved us some frustration and almost an hour of time at the end. Other than that, we would consider staying here again.
So if you are a native French speaker, I am not, but I am very willing and did my best! The front desk staff were more than gracious, helping me update my thirty year old vocabulary (haven't spoken in French since high school), helping me select restaurants, get directions, and more. This "nothing is too much trouble" was the tone for my whole stay. My room itself was rather on the basic side, but comfortable enough for sure. Breakfast was excellent, but I didn't sample dinner at the hotel. There certainly looked like a hub-bub going on when I looked in. Bathroom was spic and span, Internet worked great, and for me the location was superb. Had a lovely walk around on a pleasant evening, and was right where I needed to be for business in the morning. I'll be back.
