"Food poisoning "
Time flies, but bad things sure stick. It's the monumental things that stay with you, good or bad. It's actually been about 13 months since my one night stay at this Cascais hotel, but I've thought of that night many a time since then. About time for a review I'd say. I'll make it short, actually. I was here on business, part of a group attending a launch of a new car. A Renault, not that it matters. The hotel is airy, beach-adjacent and certainly has a nice setting. Rooms are very large, but light doesn't reach the inner parts of the room well. I had dinner with every one else the night of my stay. We had the same kind of food all around in the restaurant. Set menu. Nice dinner but since I had work, I left a few hours before midnight. Fell asleep around 11 PM. Woke up at around midnight feeling cold, shivering. Started sweating really bad. I've never had a bad food poisoning before, but with my last meals emptying out through more than one part of my body, there was no doubt. I'd had lunch here too, so this could have only come from this hotel. I had a horrible night, and the hotel was informed through Renault. They did nothing. My colleague had to bring me a Coke and some fruit the next morning. I was unable to travel back home with my group, but the hotel was unclear if I could stay in the room. I did manage to get up later in the day to catch a later flight - a flight that I actually don't recall. Upon check-out I made it clear to the staff that food made on their property, very likely seafood, had made me ill. A shrug was all I got. You should be ashamed.
"nice views - horrible quality of service"
We were on our honeymoon, we told them in advance, not even kind words or a gesture. we told them we were would be late as we had a late flight, no problem they said. when we get to the room exhausted, room is freezing cold - this was in august !! we asked them if there was something we could do, the guy moved the air-con what we learned in the morning to be the wrong way but even when we did what maintenance said (as reception had no clue what to do) it was still no change at all in temperature. After this I needed to get on with the day as I had an appointment - surprise surprise, 5 star hotel does not have not water in the room. honestly we tried every position for a few minutes and only freezing cold water of just plain cold water would come out. as I was becoming late I went for it, hoping that after a few more minutes the hot would get there... nop silly me. Then I call the reception to say that it is still freezing cold in the room and it seems to me unacceptable that a 5 stars hotel does not provide hot water in the room, so please get it fixed while we go out. Can you imagine what the reception manager Sofia doesn't apologise, tells me I should have called earlier and then says on the phone with the most condescending tone that she GUARANTEES me that there is hot water, that what she can do is to send someone to TEACH ME HOW TO USE THE TAPS. right... this after explaining that I've tried it all as everything seems to be done "upside down". As you can imagine at this point we were between shocked and on the verge to leave. My husband went downstairs to have a chat with them, after putting pressure to step up their game and said they would try to move us to another room and that WE could then move our bags ourselves - which we thought it was a joke so made clear to say that we would leave the bags ready for them to move. When we came back a good few hours later, room was not ready, told us to seat and they would get to us..... so we waited and waited and then thought to have a coffee (that no-one even offered) no waiter onsite so I get up to ask it in a very not at all busy environment. The waiter tells me I can take the coffees and bottle of water across the room....and only when he understands that clearly I don't have enough hands to do it myself he goes and offers to do it. (how kind of him.) after waiting for about 40minutes my husband adresses again the reception desk for this "please wait a moment and we'll come and get you" and found that the keys were at the desk just waiting there, no-one doing anything or calling us. Then we go for our "new room", no upgrade at all, no apologies, and our bags are not there. When we go down again and ask about it they naturally answer that our bags are in our previous room (that we no longer have the key for) as in, if you didn't do it they are still there. Again we reminded them of having told them we would let the bags ready to move. After pressure made they said they'd send someone. And could you imagine that this luggage boy was the only single person who was polite, kind and actually apologised for all that had happened to us ' So we also had ants in this new room, no attention for unhappy guests nor honeymoon factors, and it seems that they don't accept that you order food to the hotel......I mean we have stayed in major 5 star hotels around the world and they have no issue with that, but apparently the oitavos are a bit more special. oh and to rent an animation would be about 20euros... just about the amount the amount you'd spend buying the dvd and keeping it for life. We are in the age of netflix, prices of film renting should be adjusted. We couldn't use Netflix as wifi wasn't great. Spa is paid extra, very average. Nice views of sea and green from golf courses. Checked out, there was no asking about our stay no nothing, take payment and bye now. we actually had considered doing our wedding at this hotel and after this experience we are so glad that we made a good choice of not going with them.
Everything is this hotel is uncluttered and exquisitely thought through. From the sculpture that is framed by the view of the sea to the lawns around the property. The breakfasts are like an adventure and the views add to the sense of simple abundance.
"cool, modern, one with nature hotel and great golf"
The hotel is a glass modern structure that makes you look out instead of in. On the main floor there are very few walls to allow a view to the dunes and nature outside as much as possible. The food is very good, the breakfast buffet is over the top and there is no reason to leave the resort unless you choose to.
"Not just a stay, but an experience."
This is a very trendy, zen environment. The building is a Y shape, with all rooms having views of the ocean and dunes. The look is very modern and the rooms have clean lines. The staff is amazing. The food at either restaurants is exceptional. Stayed 4 nights and could have stayed longer. An outstanding experience.
