"Nice hotel in upscale neighborhood."
This hotel was very nice. The location is really upscale with lots of high end shopping. It is a very safe area. The staff were very nice and helpful. I have two complaints. I did not like that only one guest per room could use the wifi at a time. That was annoying. My other complaint is that the bathroom was a little awkward. You had to step up into the tub to take a shower. I did not like the layout at all. Also the water closet was way too small. I think they need to update the bathrooms. I did like that our room had full windows that opened, with a very nice view of the street. The bed was also amazingly comfortable. I'm not sure if I would stay at this hotel again. The only reason I say that is because I think I would rather stay in a different neighborhood closer to Puerto Del Sol or the Mercado de San Miguel. It cost us around $12 to take a taxi to those areas and I felt like we enjoyed those neighborhoods more. Overall, I do recommend this hotel if you want to stay in the shopping district.
"Excellent, excellent location, amazing service "
Quality hotel in an amazing part of Madrid at the heart of the best food and shopping in Madrid. Super attentive service, and all around subtle touch evident at every corner. The hotel is also home to one of Madrid's best restaurants with two Michelin stars. The gym is also decent and does the job and the Internet is super fast. Would definitely stay again.
Boutique hotel , located in an upmarket neighbourhood , well appointed , walking distance to all attractions . Staff friendly and helpful , decent breakfast . Stayed in a suite , felt it was a bit small . Also some construction noise at the rear.
"Good - but variable experiences"
I stayed here twice over a short period. During the first stay I stayed in a bright room, with a receptionist who fell over herself to help with a variety of things. I was wowed by Unico. Next trip the receptionist was dour and quite uptight, albeit professional. The room looked to an internal courtyard and was very dark. Quite a different experience, with the first being memorable, the later less so. Having said that I like this hotel a lot. The garden is a relaxing place, the lounge room is nicely set and very relaxing. Rooms are nicely appointed. All good actually. Probably the biggest disappointment is how difficult it is to get a reservation at the restaurant which is on site. I think they need to think about how to manage that. The restaurant is one of the drawcards of staying here, but it is sooooo difficult to get in.
"a lovely hotel"
When I come to visit my son in Madrid, I always go to Hotel Unico. It's a lovely hotel, small and friendly. The staff is fantastic : always helpful and nice. And the food is excellent. I highly recommend it.
