"It was ok!"
The benefits of this hotel is that it's right in the centre of Taormina as well as the helpful staff. If I'm not mistaken her name is Claudia ! She is extremely hard working and dedicated to her job. She helped us with everything and anything that we needed. The downside to this hotel are the rooms...now to be fair we didn't choose This hotel, it was given to us as a gift so I wouldn't have chosen this hotel if I had to book again because of the environment. (It isn't my style). Personally I believe that the rooms do need a good refurbishment even though is it in a baroque style however they should add a bit of modern to that baroque style. Unfortunately our room was a bit too old since the bathroom door didn't close, the painting of the wall was coming off, and it was also a bit dirty...its a pity if the owners do not do their best to fix up the hotel since the view from the hotel is beautiful and it's right in the centre. I apologise for the slightly bad review however I feel that I should be honest and give both the negative and positive side to this hotel!
"Excellent position and view. Kind and helpful staff. It's worth it!"
The hotel is situated 50 meters far from one of the two main gates of Taormina historical center (that's basically a 1km street called "Corso Umberto" that branchs off in some other smaller alley), but in the same time it's built on a cliff so you have full open view of whole Taormina sea bay on the other side. Internal furniture is classic / antiques with some masterpiece around. Rooms are clean and there's an automatic shutter that allows you to darken the bedroom for the night. Staff highly professional, kind and helpful. The manager is always available to accommodate your needs, as well the owner is belonging to one of the most well-established families in Taormina, so I received perfect suggestions about where to hang around, eat and have fun.
"New management building up the hotell , with à superb location in Taormina center and Seaview. 4 points."
New Rooms with perfekt aircondition. Tasteful. 4 points. With plus. Breakfast 3 points, could be more offers. Service very good and friendly, familiar athmosphete. Thanks to Claudia. "Avoid hotel - Cold showers"
As much as I wanted to enjoy our stay here, we could not, as we gad NO HOT WATER! 2 triple deluxe rooms and one double, 8 family members all together, we had to all take very cold showers. Complaints to management was met with run the water for 10 minutes!explained we ran water for 30 minutes and still no hot water. Even though Hotel is beautifully placed, great views, rooms appointed very nicely, clean , nice pool , no hot water is a deal breaker! Also, NO POOLSIDE SERVICE for drinks. Spoke with one couple from the Netherlands during breakfast this morning, they are here for 2 weeks, they said some days no water at all, no electric and never hot water, the are "stuck" here and are unhappy.
"Do not go there"
The manager of this place is a living ad for Airbnb. I'm a pretty easy hotel customer and I seldom complain. But I really feel this time was too much to let it go, and that the troubles my girlfriend and I went through are there to stay. We spent 3 nights there. The hotel must've been a beauty 20 years ago but it needs renovation everywhere. And basically, they're trying to make tourists pay for it with high prices, low value and scams. We had no hot water for 2 days. We told the staff 3 times a day. It was only on the last night that someone came to fix it. Once it was fixed, the manager just tried to convince us we had it the whole time. Upon arrival, we discovered parking was not included - 15€/night. Not a common thing, even in Taormina. There were construction works going on. We were woken up every day at 8. No notice, no apologies. Instead, they told us we were lying because the works didn't start before 10. Then, that we were in a room where we couldn't hear the noise. Finally, that we just shouldn't complain. We were supposed to be in a deluxe room : the walls were covered in squashed mosquitoes and the shower was so small I could hardly fit in. I'm not fat, I just haven't lost all the Christmas weight just yet. But I'm getting there, whereas this tiny shower isn't going anywhere. Don't spend time on breakfast : it's just industrial bread, overcooked eggs and sugar-filled industrial juices. And the same poor slice of plum tart we saw every morning for 3 days. For the anecdote, the tennis court was last used by Mats Wilander in 1978 and has since then been the home to a large family of gekkos and a tribe of spiders. The view doesn't compensate for the terrible hosting and dishonesty of the management. I just feel sad thinking about the staff, who are nice and have to put up with all this, and especially dissatisfied customers feeling they're being robbed such as I.
