Great location. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Room was very comfortable and clean. Parked car in the garage which was well protected and convenient. Parking attendant was helpful with directions. Would return to this hotel and also recommend.
"Good location, a bit noisy"
Our room was very nice, a superior King room, which is large and on the corner of the building. Despite the double glazing, it was quite noisy from outside traffic, and sometimes noisy from the internal plumbing. We turned off the fridge due to noise, and didn't use the heating/cooling for the same reason, although the temperature was quite ok anyhow. The king bed was comfortable, although it did transmit movements quite easily and creaked when one person got in or out, which is ok except for during the night. The people were very friendly and some were helpful, others tried to be but we're not really. The breakfast isn't worth having, unless you are here on business and don't have time to go out. There is no lounge area where you can sit apart from the lobby which is quite restricted.
"OK perhaps trying in parts to be too hip"
Well located Hotel and near to excellent shopping centre if you need food/tops ups etc. Hotel is trying very hard to be hip and the energy of staff seems to be in the post work drinks crowd at Dirty Habit. Keeping with the Dirty Habit theme some of those guest had the habit of F*** etc in the lift on their way up despite children being around. Bar restaurant is cool but really is designed to excluding rather than exclusive to the non post work hipsters by its design, menu and staff. We popped down to have a look but hey we failed the hip test and had to ask for a menu. Unfortunately for all the outside of the hotel and the area has a huge homelessness issue which is a challenge for all and this tends to add an atmosphere/concern to the surrounds. So good is really the theme for the hotel. I could imagine being near Bar/Restaurant would be a bad move
"Bummer stay on our 20th anniversary getaway, better choices in SOMA area"
Besides our initial greeting from a very cheerful and accommodating front desk lady, the rest of our interactions with staff was odd and didn't feel pleasant. The doormen, front desk people, valet, bellman, housekeeping staff, all seemed unhappy and their presentation of pleasantries felt forced and unnatural. The location is very good and the hotel is clean and modestly decorated although the weird industrial touches feel a little cold. Our room was an executive king suite with the soaking tub. It was ok but although they have updated decor, it felt older and small. Definitely not a spacious place. The windows were FILTHY and don't crack or open at all. Our room was pretty quite from the Market Street side but it seemed like there was a lot of noise and activity in the hallway. On our way out for a run and then venture around the city, we told a gentleman at the front desk we would like our room cleaned while we are out. It was 9:30 when we left and we ended up turing our normal 1.5 hour run into an almost 4 hour outing around Nob hill and then down along the marina getting back to the hotel at around 1pm. When we got to our room we found that it had not been cleaned...UGH! are you kidding me' I wanted to shower and rest a bit before our night out on the town which by the way was for our 20th wedding anniversary, which we had mentioned in our reservation and NOT one little note, chocolate, "happy anniversary" nothing, no mention. It was an odd omission and something that would have never been overlooked at other hotels. When I called the front desk to tell them about it, she seemed irritated and put off that I was complaining that within almost 4 hours and a request our room could not have been cleaned...really' But guess what' the next day when we were actually going to be checking out...guess who knocked on our door at 9:15' yes, HOUSEKEEPING! are you kidding' Not the best communication. Our bed was pretty hard and the blankets are paper thin. We requested additional blankets but just got a couple of more paper thin ones. The sheets and pillows were very nice. We will definitely be going back to the Ritz or Palace on our next stay in that area.
"Very nice "
This hotel is very nice, clean and all around well kept. It's in a good location near all the shopping and Union Square. I have stayed there often and remember it under Palomar (if I remember correctly). There's a bar/restaurant in the hotel, food is good. Not cheap, but very nice.
