"Great conference hotel, be careful in the shower"
I've been to this hotel a few times over the last couple of years but this review will cover my longest visit- 4 nights- which was just completed. The one complaint is that everything is very expensive from an $8 beer to a $5 coffee to the $20 breakfast buffet. There are no refrigerators in the room so even though you could buy a cold drink in the snack bar, you would have to consume it immediately or put it in an ice bucket. Again, it is geared so that you spend as much as possible at the hotel. Given that, you get a nice experience for what you pay. The bar/restaurant is clean and inviting so you can enjoy your $8 beer and $15 sandwich. The service during the breakfast buffet is excellent and they will get you whatever you need. The buffet has quite a few items and all the meats were natural. The eggs on the buffet were real--not a given anymore. The coffee is strong- a real digestive tract starter. The staff is always very friendly from check-in to breakfast to the coffee bar to the conference staff. The conference area is quite large, so large that you can actually get lost in the different wings of space. My room was clean and spacious. The free internet that came with the room was plenty fast to get work done, check email, and surf the web and social media. I tried to watch a program on Hulu on my laptop and it didn't work--could've been that the free internet throttled such downloads, who knows. As far as noise, if there's someone talking at normal volume in the hallway, you are probably going to hear it in your room. The noise you get in your room actually isn't so much from airplanes (although you can hear them in the background) it's from the roads that surround the hotel on all sides. Bring earplugs--I don't grade the hotel down for the road noise because there is only so much you can do-- DFW Airport is a spaghetti bowl of roads going every which way and it just so happens that this Hyatt is completely surrounded by roads! There's one thing about their bathrooms that I never understood why they were built this way other than to eliminate shower curtains or faulty doors--there's no shower door or curtain, just a partial glass enclosure. You step into the shower at the back of the shower so the back part of the shower stays open since the glass enclosure is only towards the front. This means that water splatters on the floor and wall as you shower and there's no way to fully enclose the shower. Make sure to put down a towel or the provided rubber mat so you don't slip! The pool area was very nice and the pool was inviting although I didn't try it. All in all, a very good experience.
"party hotel not well controlled"
Lots of people and partying allowed between rooms and in the hallways. Paper thin walls. Rooms are dim and look dirty. My room had a terrible odor. Stay away from the elevators if you need to stay here. Location is good for in and out at the airport. Convenient shuttle but if you have time stay somewhere else. Staff is nice but the property is out of control.
I think of the Hyatt Regency at the DFW airport as a quiet oasis amid the hustle and bustle of the busy DFW airport. The convienience of the hotel plus professionalism of the entire staff is unsurpassed.
"home away from home"
I travel to Dallas for business about every 6-8 weeks. I always stay at this hotel because no matter where my meetings are in Dallas, I am always a maximum of 30 minutes away. The staff are fantastic and not only remember me by name but also my preferences.
