As we drove from the airport in Kathmandu to the Hyatt Regency I told myself not to expect much. If you've been to Kathmandu, you know what I mean. All around there was evidence of the terrible earthquake that hit Kathmandu in April 2015. There were people still living in tent cities. So, when I got to the Hyatt Regency, which is a little oasis from the crazy streets of Kathmandu, I was pleasantly surprised. I was thankful to have electricity, a comfortable bed and running water. The grounds of this property are beautiful. There's even a swimming pool. Our room, which came with 2 twin beds, was a little tired and in need of some updating. It could have used: new linens and the black finger prints washed off of the telephone. Other than that it was a comfortable stay for the two nights we were there.
"Second visit, longer stay & awesome again!"
This was my second stay at this amazing property! The grandness of this hotel..the moment you enter the premises is mesmerizing. The entrance in calming with the fountains, the beautiful carvings on the doors and the shining gold brass...when u enter...the center has a lot of light coming in on the beautiful stupas...and there's flower decoration all around. :) The location of the hotel is very central so it's really convenient to go around Kathmandu. It's about 3kms from the KTM airport, however considering how unorganized & populated KTM city is, it can take 40-45 mins too if there's a lot of traffic!!! My room was on the lobby floorLevel 3...quite close to the reception. The room is big and has amazing views of the sprawling green lawns outside or the pool area. The room is spic & span. The decor is done up very well...sober yet classy! The bathroom is neat & clean with a shower and a bath There's a little closet outside with the locker and the ironing table etc facilities. The room has a tea making facilities and a variety of amazing teas to offer...Their Himalayan Tea is super refreshing! :) My parents were staying in a suite on the 5th floor and it was even more amazing with a huge seating area, room and bathroom with a closet. With amazing views of "The beautiful Boudhanath Stupa" and KTM city and the pool area. Fresh flowers added to the beauty of the suite and fresh fruits were provided too! We were attending family celebrations/functions for 2 nights & 3 days and explored a lot of the property. The Rox bar is amazing with a cool vibe, the Ballroom is grand with gorgeous chandeliers, the lawn area with mountain views for a winter afternoon function were perfect! The high tea was served right outside the lobby floor which is their cafe I suppose. The outside seating has a lovely views of the mountain, the city and the pool again. :) The breakfast is nice with a variety of breads, continental, south Indian, eggs to order, juices, cheese, cereals etc. I loved to sit outside next to the fountains and the pool as the weather was perfect. :) The food, hospitality, decor and the overall calmness & classiness of this hotel makes it a total thumbs up!! :) Would love to visit again!
This was used to be the best hotel in Kathmandu to stay but recently with the change of top management the quality of service at hotel has gone down (real sad) Building of hotel is really beautiful and majestic. This hotel used to take care of their long time customers pretty well but during this stay I did not experience that usual hospitality. The major problem is room temperature during winter months. It is not very cold in Kathmandu but central air conditioning system has only one setting per weather so in winter rooms are too hot to sleep as hot air is being blown by the system. Windows can be opened but there are hundreds of pigeons sitting outside and make loud noises. Rooms have wooden floors and are not cleaned properly. There are stains all over the floor. With little care by management this hotel can be top Kathmandu hotel again.
"Noisy for business travel and inconsistent service "
The hotel is well located and reasonably maintained. As a business group we upgraded to club level but had to change rooms several times. The magnetic locks never work and I had to change access cards 8 times during my stay. There are constant weddings and noise during weekdays - even rowdy guests on the club floor. The rooms were cold and the air conditioning did not work consistently. They charge an extra fee for breakfast in a double occupancy room on the club floor - even to gold card members. The hotel is located next to a refugee camp and the dogs howl loudly at night. Breakfast offers significant choice and the snacks and drinks on the club floor are really good. The hotel has potential if more attention is paid to detail. Ask for a room away from the entertainment areas.
The Hyatt Regency is the best hotel and good location in the Kathmandu ... nice staff bed is perfect and clean i like this hotel. i gonna recommend to you also, see you Hyatt Regency again swimming pool is funny
