"Grounds are beautiful"
Check in was a little slow, as we got there right around 4:00 and lots of people ahead of us. As I watched people being checked in, I noticed the other front desk people were handing waters to the customers as they checked in. I was greeted by a male who checked us in, but never offered us a bottled water, which we could have used as we had a long day of flying and driving. They did have water with fruit available at the front door, however the fruit was covered the spout so no water would come out. Got to our room and it has been nicely updated. We had a view of the pool but no balcony - I guess that's an upgrade. During the night our daughter became very ill and in the morning I realized she needed to go for care. As she got up to try and get dressed she kind of collapsed on the floor. As I helped her get dressed I noticed a large piece of glass laying right next to her in the entry way. Wow, that could have been dangerous. I know the hotel didn't break the glass but housekeeping apparently isn't taking time to clean the rooms thoroughly. When we returned from urgent care my son was just stepping out of the shower and told me that he had dropped the bar of soap and when he picked it up there was a small chunk of glass on it. I'm so glad he noticed it. I would have loved to mention this to the front desk when checking out but our daughter was sick the glass issue just wasn't a priority. It's a pleasant hotel but it seems housekeeping needs to be taken care of. And the front desk should all be on the same page.
"So much to like"
The only thing I did not like about this hotel was the showers. They offer rain style shower heads which are very close to the wall so unless you hold it in one hand it is difficult to really get under it. There is not a door, or space heater so kinda cold - scrub fast. The beds were comfortable, lighting good, lots of counter space and storage in the bathroom. Decent TV channel selection if you need it. Plenty roomy. I see comments on the time warp - it doesn't have todays hottest styles rather laid back and comfortable - not like you are walking into the Brady's house. This place is a more laid back style. Buffet for breakfast is $$$ but so yummy! I couldn't swing it for my family of 5, however on a business trip for just me very good! Sea scallops in the restaurant for dinner are divine. oh, but the in room coffee is not worth the time - after that fast shower just head to the lobby for your fix.
"Golf in Monterey"
In spite of record rain and wind in the area, my son and I truly enjoyed our time at the Hyatt Regency Hotel and Spa. We played golf and enjoyed the round! Food and beverage services were excellent! Hotel met our needs and lodging services were very nice.
"Lack of value in outdated/ older hotel"
This hotel does not offer value for the price it charges. I've stayed at Hyatt categories 1-7, and Hyatt Regency Monterey is sorely lacking as a category 4. Positives: decent location in Monterey Negatives: - The hotel seems old and outdated. - My hotel room had one phone where the cordless and speaker didn't work. - The toilet's handle was broken so the toilet wouldn't flush. This hotel seems to cater to and target what I call "old money." The elevator had pictures of Marilyn Monroe, the hallways remind me of hotels in the 1990s or before, and overall the hotel seemed content with keeping its retro look.
"Old and could see the "renovation" was done on a budget"
The hotel feels very old and felt more like a campsite from the outside rather than a golf related resort hotel. The room had popcorn/cottage cheese ceilings. The room should come with 2 queens and not 2 doubles. The beds were very uncomfortable and felt old. The fact that the AC is a stand alone unit in the room is terrible as it was loud, intrusive, and took a long time to cool the room. The lighting in the bathroom made the bathroom very hot.
