"Everything you could want"
I read reviews complaining about the pool and something about expensive beach chairs. First of all, who goes to the beach to sit at the pool'' Second, I was SHOCKED to find that not only did we get beach towels to take to the beach, but the beach CHAIRS were free. That's right, free. The rooms actually look better than the pictures and the restaurant is highly underrated. We had the best appetizer I've ever had at Japengo (the hotel restaurant). Really, you never need to to leave the hotel--but you do, of course. It's extremely close to the beach, top shops, restaurants, everything you could want. The staff is helpful and friendly, the view at the Diamond Tower phenomenal. The only downside is the air conditioning (set at it's lowest temp) is a few degrees warmer than is comfortable at night. But I find this is often the case in warmer climate hotels as well as older European hotels--trying to save money, I guess.
Hotel is modern and very big. HigherFloors have AMAZING views. We were put on the 39th Floor (if you are afraid of heights ASK FOR A LOWER FLOOR), Elevators can take a bit to arrive. Staff is friendly and helpful. Beds are SUPER comfy. Pool is pretty small for such a HUGE hotel. I understand the beach is across the street, but sometimes people prefer a pool. It can get crowded pretty fast. Great central location, close to shopping area.
"Everything was perfect except the ride to the Airport..."
With a family of 5, Hyatt place was fantastic for our 14, 12 and 9 year old, we had two double beds and a sofa bed. Location is great, 3min walk to the beach, breakfast is very handy as it’s included in the rate! Service was great, the only let down was ‘Charlie’s’ Taxi Service, we had a fixed rate of $30 to the Airport, but the guy charged me $40 on the meter, I called his supervisor to let him know, please make sure you confirm the rate with the driver, as soon as he knew we were from New Zealand he put the meter on, knowing we may not question him.I wasn't prepared to argue with the guy over $10 and ruin my awesome holiday. Other than is minor indiscretion, we had a fantastic time. Great stay for a larger family as you pay for one room rate!
"Nice hotel complex with easy access downtown Waikiki"
This is a two tower resort complex comprised of Eva (pronounced "EVA") and Diamonhead. The Valet parking (and the front of the hotel for Uber pickup/drop off) is at the Diamondhead tower opposite the Hyatt Ballroms across the street. Across the street is the beach and the statue of Duke Kahanamoku, the original longboard surfer of Hawaii. Right next to the park is a police substation. Of course, you will trip over no less than two ABC Stores where you can buy a selection of just about everything. Alcohol. Food. Tourist gifts and, of course all manner of macadamia nuts. The tower rooms are strangely arranged: we wanted two rooms relatively close to each other. We were given 1618 and 1601. They were basically opposite each other, right near the elevators! Not much of a view but the rooms are large and the king size beds were comfortable. A bit strange is the 54" TV. It is fixed to the wall without possibility of adjustment. So laying in bed gets an angled view to the TV with a great (but unwanted) reflection of the sliding doors to the very small balcony. There is a nice bar fridge in the room which was stocked with a couple bottles of water. The rooms were located on a nonsmoking floor. I'm not sure if the entire hotel is smoke free but it appears to be. Everything is within easy walking distance of this hotel, including bus access outside of downtown Waikiki. Moderately priced, I would definitely stay again.
