"Birthday & Anniversary Celebrations at Hyatt Regency Waikiki were SUPERB"
We stayed at the Hyatt Regency Resort & Spa last weekend for my son's birthday, my birthday and a second anniversary celebration! Everything was over and beyond what we expected. Dan, Manager at Front Desk was amazing, as was Nicole at Regency Club, Randy, waiter at The Swim was attentive, funny and quick with our orders, Dado & Michael the pool attendants always great service in finding us a lounge chair & toweling it up, David Nadelman General Manager continued to check on us, being certain we were taken care of. Beautiful Stay@
We stayed at the Hyatt for 10 nights in October. From the moment we arrived the staff were amazing and extremely friendly. We stayed in an ocean front room which we couldn't fault. The room was spacious and clean. A special thank you to Ryoko at reception for all her help and the gift provided. All in all, I have been to Hawaii many times but this is my first time staying at the Hyatt. We will be back - highly recommended.
"Very very good, but not good enough for 5 stars"
Overall, we thought the Hyatt Regency was a good place. Staff/checkin-The staff was very attentive and friendly at every turn. From checkin (Dan gave us great suggestions on first night low key dining), to management to restaurant to the valet team. I saw some people complained about rude or disinterested staff, but our experience was very personal and well done. The room- we reserved and paid for an ocean view room, and the view was beautiful. The room itself was perfect for a couple, the vanity area is separate from the shower/commode. Plenty large so you don't feel like in a standard hotel room. The beds and pillows were comfortable Restaurants-we only ate in one of the restaurants (SHOR) for breakfast. We did not do the buffet, at $31 we'd never eat enough food to justify that expense. The menu ordered items were good. Regency Club-While OK, this is an area where the hotel needs to do better if they want to be 5 star rated. The breakfast is advertised as continental (and it is), but it is really meh...Given there is no room service options in the hotel, the regency club I think needs to step up a notch. Warm options (just a steam tray of scrambled eggs, bacon or sausage, and fried rice everyday). The same was true for happy hour options. Housekeeping-Our room cleaning was good, but the staff was inconsistent about refilling the amenities (like shampoo, dental kits, and lotion). Seemed odd to me. Location-the hotel is in a great location, and we were able to walk to most everything we needed. I do agree with other comments that it is more "sterile" versus "Hawaiian"..but I did not care so much about that. The beach is close enough that crossing the street is not big deal, complimentary towels and chairs are very nice. Shopping-the shops in the lower level of hotel building were great... Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would likely come back. Though if you want a more high end experience, this is not the place. Above average solid...
"Better than a 3, but not a 4"
I stay at a lot of Hyatt's for vacations so I have high expectations. I wouldn't say they fall short here from a Hyatt perspective. Everyone was perfectly friendly and accommodating. I think my drop in "score" is simply relative to other locations we visited while in Waikiki. Pros: You can walk everywhere. Don't bother with a car. You can either rent one for a day or two while you're onsite, or you can take public transportation or walk. This hotel is in the center of everything and you can walk to some really great attractions. It's right in the midst of shopping, across from the popular beach, near the Outrigger and Surfrider hotels, it's just a really great location. There are a few restaurants onsite as well. The pool area is comfortable and they offer you free chairs (small, portable) which you can bring across the street to sit at the beach which I highly recommend! They play great music around the pool and it's a nice atmosphere. There are several ABC convenience stores onsite so you always have access to quick necessities. Cons: It doesn't really have a "Hawaii resort" feel. Walk across the street to the Outrigger and you will immediately understand the difference. Some of that is due to that hotel being on the water, some of it is the expansive outdoor dining which makes a huge difference. At this Hyatt, you feel more like you're staying at a hotel for work, that happens to have a decent pool and be in paradise. It doesn't feel like a vacation hotel to me. A HUGE deterrent for me is that they don't offer room service. When I inquired, they said there's no demand for it which sounds odd to me since they bill themselves as a "Resort". We got the breakfast buffet at the Shore café one morning and paid $31 each!!!!! for this buffet. If you're hungry for a buffet, do yourselves a favor and walk to Dukes, about 5 minutes down the road (two hotels down) and it's ON the beach. The selection is better, and the cost is only $17!!! There is NO reason not to choose Duke's over the Hyatt for the buffet. That cost is absolutely insanse. The poolside service was VERY attentive and a standard pool menu. Nothing spectacular or lacking there. The lack of live music also kind of pulled this back compared to the other hotels we visited. We stayed here using points and cash and for the price, it was worth it. If I was paying full price, I would definitely suggest paying another $100-150/night and staying at the Outrigger or Surfrider. You're going to get more of the experience you're looking for.
"Great location and over-the-top customer service"
You may read below.....Remember, be nice to the staff and they will reciprocate!! What makes a hotel stay is not just the room or its view.....it is also the customer service and responsive staff. The manager, David N. sent a welcome email prior to my arrival. Without going into details, he managed to accommodate my stay requests ....and then some....! What a great Hyatt manager! Then, I checked in with Catherine. Later I met her in the hallway and mentioned I had a jminor fight with the elevator....ha.... She then took time to show me around the hotel. The next evening, I arrived back to my room to discover a handwritten card and a very nice gift. Wishing me a nice stay and hopes of no further encounters with the elevator. As I said, it is NOT all about the room.....it is who you meet and the service provided.
