"Not Great "
Rather tired and the staff are pretty grim too. The place needs a serious upgrade. The rooms are ok but could do with an upgrade. Breakfast was a miserable affair with barely warm scrambled egg and a poor selection of fruit and cakes. Theres no reason to stay here apart from the golf course which is also not the best, but is interesting. On the plus side it was cheap, has great views of mt Etna and is clean. I will stay somewhere else if am in the region again.
"Excellent place, people and atmosphere. Nice food."
There was nothing that I missed or thought was incomplete about my stay in Il Picciolo Etna Golf Resort & Spa. If I must try to find something to comment about that I did not regard as absolutely perfect, it must have been the food. I paid full board, and received three courses for each mea, which was nice. However, I got a feeling that the food was somewhat mass-produced; especially since it arrived almost immediately at the table after seating. That is, the food did not necessarily correspond to the nice way the hotel present the food and restaurant in the hotel website. Thats why I gave 4 out of 5 possible marks for Il Picciolo Etna Golf Resort & Spa.
"Holiday with golf"
We booked our holiday to include golf. I emailed the golf secretary who booked us in for 2 9 hole rounds. If you are staying at the hotel then the 50 Euro 9 hole round becomes 35 euro..but none of this was communicated. The course is lovely and pretty well maintained. If it is hot would suggest hiring a buggy. As to the hotel we had the suite rooms number 114. Lovely space and would recommend the room but water dripped all night from the air conditioning, a tired hotel in need of updating. Breakfast was perfectly acceptable apart from the staff didn't replace items that had run out. The staff were more interested in laying the tables for dinner.. they didn't see that bowls spoons plates had run out or replenish the pastries, eggs, joghurt. It could have been a very enjoyable breakfast but instead every breakfast was a frustrating experience. Yes I passed on my concern, the next day was better then reverted to the norm. The pool area had a life guard and open bar for 3 days then simply was shut with no note on the bar so we couldn't even get a drink. Many of the loungers were broken. It's almost like the hotel is stuck in the 1990s and nobody seemingly caring. The staff were all very friendly but something is lacking.. It wouldn't take much to change these things and the experience would have been great. Having said that we made the most of our room overlooking the 18th green and Etna. A suggestion also would be is to have a bar menu available in the evening. If you didn't want dinner in the restaurant then all we were offered were ham and cheese toasties! The hotel is quite isolated so options are limited. Please change a couple of these things..it would make such a difference the experience
"Little niggles which could have easily been rectified"
Lunch finished at 3pm which is not good when you've just come off the golf course and the hotel is in the middle of nowhere so had nothing to eat on the first day. No bath plug despite asking numerous times and it still didn't appear throughout the whole of our stay (5 days) Wanted to settle our bill the night before as we were leaving at 4am the next morning. The receptionist said no as she was busy. We went back 1 hour later when there was no-one at reception and she still said come back in the morning. I insisted I wanted to settle as I didn't want to be delayed in the morning. She snatched my credit card and huffed and puffed. Very rude. We tried to book a helicopter ride to take us up Etna which was shown as €130 per person in the hotel guide. What they failed to make clear (but in the small print) is the minimum number is 5, therefore it would have cost us €650. They wouldn't even take names from other guests to make up the numbers. Golf course very expensive. €220 for the two of us. I then asked if we were entitled to a discount as we were staying in the hotel and they said yes €40. They could have asked us if we were staying at the hotel before I paid! Anyway didn't get any refund but they offered the use of a golf buggy which was a godsend in the end. In the middle of nowhere. There were a couple of towns about 5 minutes drive but both were ghost towns! Bar man was lovely and some of the waiting staff couldn't do enough for you Spa facilities were good
