"Great location on Westlake"
Really enjoyed this hotel. We found the service to be very good in the lounge area within the hotel as well as the exterior lounge at the end of the walkway. We had a nice view from our room which overlooked the pool area. The front desk accommodated our request for a late check out which was great as we had a 6pm flight. The buffet breakfast was very good and it provided a great lake view
"NEED MORE IMPROVEMENT"
I have visited "InterContinental Hanoi Westlake, CAFÉ DU LAC" with my friends for breakfast. It's clean and good but I never feel I am sitting in luxury dining, if I compare the dining with any good restaurant or cafe in Hanoi then CAFÉ DU LAC is not best. Food quality is good but needs more improvement is required for luxury feel.
"Great location over the water, food and service a plus"
The trip from the airport to the hotel is always going to be exciting. Arriving at the hotel you notice it isn't in the city which can be a good thing. The initial impression of the hotel given the impressive photos online was that it was a little tired (could do with a freshen up). Staff were friendly and check-in a breeze. The we stayed in the block furtherest from the hotel with our rooms overlooking the lake. The rooms were very comfortable and spacious and the balcony easily accessed off the bedroom. The challenge with venturing outside was the steroid consuming mosquitos which is a real pity as the balcony was such a great place to watch the sund go down over the city. Just taking photos one needed to be sprayed from head to toe in repellent and that didn't last too long for the brazen mosquitos. Note to hotel - how about installing the same machines you have at the outdoor restaurant on the balconies' Another little gripe is that you need to start running the bath water well in advance as water pressure appears to be low. Showers offer another option of course. The food at the hotel is superb - starting with the breakfast buffet:- looked forward to this everyday. Great options for kids and a truly "international" breakfast. A lovely touch is the person who walks through the dining area offering hot, freshly baked croissants - a great accompaniment with the Vietnamese coffee. Oh, and the coffee is good stuff! Lunch around the pool was always good and a comment about the friendliness and efficiency of the staff - 10/10. Decent variety for dinner and again, the quality of the food I found to be very good. Italian restaurant good for kids - adults too (risotto). There is a outdoor bar area where you can sit and sip a cocktail or two. The resort is very picturesque at night and sitting on a recliner watching the sun disappear is a very enjoyable experience. What is worth a chuckle is the continuous popping sound and then the smell of the mosquitos frying as the multiple electronic mosquito machines create a thankful diversion for these brutes. Can make it tricky having a private conversation as you try hear the other person over the constant popping sounds but very much worth the effort (had dinner out there one evening and it was superb). Gym facilites were the best I encountered in our trip through Vietnam and again, staff very efficient and friendly. Note:- There is a safety deposit option for valuables which work well There is an onsite travel agent to book tours. We booked a couple of tours and our guide Khang was a mine full of information. A great guy, spoke good English and highly recommend him. The city is about a 80-100k VND taxi ride one way and from memory the trip to the domestic airport was around 350k VND. We used a shuttle service from the airport and despite a few Russian tourists amusingly trying to hijack our vehicle (nobody could understand one another) the trip cost $18 USD and was worth every cent. You do need to watch out for the taxis - avoid the little green hatch-baks. Preferred ones are Vinasun and Malinh. Spoil yourself and pop into the Metropole hotel for breakfast one morning. Not as good as the Interncon but just worth the experience given the history of the hotel. Good coffee shops in the city include Runam and Highland Coffee.
"A wonderfull setting"
We were booked into this hotel as part of the land portion of an Avalon river-cruise and Avalon are to be complimented on their selection of hotels. The setting of this hotel is absolutely delightful, literally IN Westlake, the largest of Hanoi's 100 lakes. All the facilities are excellent and our room was located in the main building. While very comfortable, our room located on the second floor, was close to the elevator and overlooked the pool patio area, making it extremely noisy. We found that guest were not very courteous often standing outside our door, or on the pool patio area late at night making loud conversation. There are several satelite hotel "pods" which probably don't have the noise issue. Notwithstanding this, the staff are extremely courteous and helpful, allowing us to use the facilities including showers as our flight out was late in the evening and in-fact delayed a further 7 hours from 9pm till 4am. The concierge was most helpful in contacting the airline for updates and we utilized the free wifi beyond our check-out time. The included buffet breakfasts at all InterContinental hotels are excellent. While the hotel in not centrally located, one is still able to access to the french quarter by walking around the perimeter of the lake.
After arriving late at night, and having a noise complaint on our original room, the front office manager Nguyen Quang Huy moved us to a upgraded room over looking the lake.Breakfast was excellent having a range of european and asian food all in plentiful supply.the hotel is situated over looking a lake and has a quiet atmosphere, the down side is, it is situated quiet far from the city centre and a taxi is needed to get to the centre. As our flight was at 00.15 the hotel let us have a very late booking out time, and again Nguyen came to the rescue by allowing us to us the lounge for light snacks and drink before departing.
