"Exceptional as usual "
Again, an exceptional hotel with great staff. This is our second time we stay at this extremely central and lavish hotel. We were welcomed with a smile from all the staff. They were always there for us to solve our problems. When we arrived, My husband gave his blazers and suits to be pressed, within a few hours they were returned as we had an event in the evening. When he got the blazer out that evening it was not ironed so he went to the reception, they apologized and within 10 minutes it was done again and sent to our room. I really love this hotel. One note though, the lighting in the room needs to be stronger - the side lamps and standing lamps are not enough to light up the room. The breakfast is a must! Even if you are not staying at this hotel, you have to go try out their breakfast.
This is a luxury hotel in the centre of Beirut. Our room was top notch - and the breakfast buffet was one of the best I've had anywhere. Everything else, from the service to ambience is as to be expected in a luxury property. Located walking distance form conrniche also.
"My Beirut's favorite"
The Phoenicia is real institution in Beirut and you quickly understand why. The level of finish and luxury is great, and to my knowledge, the best you can get in Beirut (having tried the few 5 stars around). The breakfast selection with the stunning view of the sea make the overall breakfast experience just great. Also, the pool and bar surrounded by this Phoenician style decor give you an impression of being in a very unique place. The only downside is that there are old rooms which have a "city" view which actually would need a refresh and also the view is awful. Hence I recommend asking for sea view !
"Not five star"
This is a nice, clean, fancy hotel with lots of well-heeled clientele, and safe. It felt a little bit like a mid-range hotel in Las Vegas. I'm not sure it is quite a five-star hotel, if that's what it is claiming to be. Though it was relatively recently re-opened, the hotel has already started to show wear and tear (dings on the furniture, broken molding, etc). The shower had an awkward half-glass partition which meant if you were an average sized person the water would spray on the floor unless you were smashed against the wall. Room service food was mediocre (probably microwaved) and they delivered the wrong thing when we ordered after a late night arrival. Our room had a very atmospheric view of the old Holiday Inn. We didn't eat at the breakfast buffet. Service in the lobby bar was quite slow the two times we stopped in for drinks. That said, the concierge was helpful in making dinner reservations and the "free shuttle" to the airport ended up being a private driver in a very nice Volvo SUV.
Most of the times I use the Phoenicia during my short stays in Lebanon. The rooms are classical clean and well maintained, the breakfast is well diversified and caters for all needs and tastes from Lebanese traditional pastry, to Knefeh bil kaak , to western and international breakfasts. The food is yummy and the roof top restaurant Eau De Vie is so good that it deserves a separate review of its own. The hotel services are great with the exception of the valet parking as it takes forever to get your car.
