"5 stars hotel lost a few stars somewhere on its way"
Hotel was open in 1974 and you can see this on style of the hotel...Rooms are quite OK, not relly big, but I have spent all day out of room. It is visible that hotel is visiting a lot of turists and rooms should be refurbished. A lot of scratches on furniture... and not only. Bathroom was clean enough, no issues at all. We enjoyed drink and dinner in 9th floor with very nice view to Praha. Buffet dinner was very good, service as well, no any complain. Bar was quite OK despite the beer they serve is not my favourit. The issue is the reception. If you want "standard" things, then probably you have no problem. But...I needed a help from guy there to bring prepared 40 pcs of snacks (in 40 bags) out of hotel, we have exchanged a few sentenses why we cannot use the trolley with already prepared bags and finaly he said" You do not have to be upset" and he moved out. So we had to carry all of them by overselves. Hmmmm...where is third, fourth and fifth star' Other story, colleague of mine brought a box for me which just should be very easily takeovered by someone and placed into meeting room. First issue, he should not park a car for 2 mins in front of the hotel, he was forced to park in garage. Then at a reception they were completely lost... finaly they went together to meeting room to put the box there and they recognized is locked. Big surprice, moved back to reception. He left it there and small miracle, I got it! He had to pay for garage, of course. He lost 15 mins instead of 2 mins and paid for garage! So 5 stars hotel lost a few stars somewhere on its way...The hotel is as good as a good staff is.
"EXCELLENT LOACTION - good quality and service"
Very pleasant well-appointed hotel in fairly modern style. Rooms are spacious and well-appointed and ours looked out over its own pleasant front square. Good modern decor and lighting. Superb service from staff, with the one exception of the (female) breakfast Maitre d' who had a commanding and inflexible attitude to clients! This hotel is in an excellent location, being only a short walk from the Main City square and the famous clock, with plenty of dining options nearby. We spent 3 days there at the start of our Avalon river cruise.
The hotel is very close to the river but also only a 10 minute walk to the Old Town. There are numerous restaurants close by of varying quality. It's about a 10 minute walk to the Charles Bridge. We didn't eat in house.
"Not the top IHG experience "
Am a Royal Ambassador with IHG so I'm used to what an IHG hotel means. First impressions were "what an ugly building" - doesn't win any architectural prizes but it's been here for a time and the decor suggests that, my room, an Executive Suite was very brown and beige of the Marriott ilk and in need of a refresh. Two slightly larger singles in the bedroom rather than a king size as requested so not impressed with that and the duvet is just odd!!! It's the width of the bed so when you get in it doesn't reach the side of the bed, very bizarre. Pillow preference wasn't available. Other preferences as an Ambassador such as sweet treats were savoury, displayed cascading on a plate - sadly they were inedible as now stale. A bottle of red wine on the table was a nice gift, yet it was Spanish and not celebrating Czech Rep as it should. No separate Ambassador check in as in other IHG properties and key card was incorrectly set up and rectified by the club lounge. The lounge albeit small served its purpose but sorry to bring criticism- if you put out food please, please, please say what they are - my forensic skills cannot test what is in the batter or in the sauce so had to avoid these for fear of allergens, therefore I didn't eat anything from the lounge which defeats the lounge purpose! Drinks were available as self serve, a first for me at an IHG. Service was mediocre, not outstanding- simple things create impressions. If I'm walking up to the lobby entrance with briefcase and bag, open the door! Don't just watch. The odd hello from staff doesn't go amiss either as you pass. This hotel I feel suffers it's service level by meeting the needs of the droves of packaged tourists than a business person. Room for improvement in many areas for sure.
"Super great location"
This was one of the nicest places that I have stayed in the Czech Republic. Everything went very well in this place. The room was lovely and spacious. The lobby is large and expansive but no where to sit. If you need to set you have to go to the bar. Be careful when calling a cab to make sure that they take credit cards.
