We spent a few days here towards the end of our trip! It is by far the best time I had on the trip! It was pure relaxation- i got a nice massage at the spa and spent a lot of time at the pool. Every evening we went to the sky bar to view the beautiful views of the sunset and sip on some nice wine. The staff was beyond amazing! My husband left his jacket in the room and we had left for the airport. We asked our driver to turn around and he was able to coordinate with the hotel who met us half way. This was beyond our expectations! Outside the stellar service, the resort was just amazing! We stayed in a nice villa that had a great ocean view! I would highly recommend this hotel for your stay!
We spent a week here on a luxury escape package where we upgraded to a private pool villa. Could not recommend this place more highly and all the extras that upgrading to the pool villa gives you makes it well worthwhile-including a butler , which means you always have someone to contact if you need anything and who is always looking out for you to make sure your stay is enjoyable...Seen was fantastic. Décor throughout the resort is stunning, staff are extremely friendly, breakfasts are excellent and food in the restaurants overall is great - although expensive - especially wine. While you are paying high western prices at the resort, you have to keep in mind that you are also getting first class western amenities. There are a few options a short walk down the beach which I'm sure would be good cheap options - however we never quite made it !
"Fabulous holiday - stunning views and superb staff made this a resort we will certainly revisit next year."
We have just returned from a wonderful holiday in Thailand that included a 7 night stay at the beautiful Intercontinental Samui Baan Taling Ngam - and what a treat that was! My partner and I are both Spire Ambassador members of the IHG Rewards Club and we are fortunate to be able to travel extensively and enjoy some excellent holidays in many luxury hotels and resorts around the world. I must admit that I was a little unsure about what to expect from the IC in Koh Samui, after reading a few mixed reviews, however we were really pleased with our choice from start to finish. We booked 'Intercontinental Club' benefits for this stay and, as usual, 'club' did not disappoint. Firstly, we enjoyed a limousine pick-up from the airport and we were transported in comfort to a promising welcome at the hotel from the fabulous Fongbeer, Front Office Manager, and Mercedes, our enthusiastic and attentive Personal Butler. As we were celebrating my partner's birthday I had booked a beachfront private pool villa for the first weekend of our stay but at check-in we were delighted to be informed that we were being upgraded to a pool villa for the entire week. What a good start to our holiday! The private pool villas are great and they offer roomy and well-organised interior and exterior accommodation that is equipped with high quality fixtures and amenities. Most of the villas offer a combination of wonderful views and ample privacy for relaxation. The beachfront villas are somewhat detached from the main body of the hotel and I must point out that there are a significant number of steps to be negotiated to get around this resort. However, there is no shortage of club car transport available and we found that we rarely waited more than a few minutes for one to whisk us from one area of the resort to another. The private pools of the beachfront villas are actually a good size - much better than the tiny plunge pools you often find in this category of room. If your budget will stretch to this category of room, I thoroughly recommend booking a beachfront villa and I'll be re-booking one for another holiday in 2018. This resort has two restaurants that, between them, offer a varied menu of Thai, Western and International dishes. Both restaurants hold theme nights throughout the week and sometimes offer entertainment. Each day, we enjoyed breakfast at the Amber Restaurant and a sumptuous afternoon tea in the lounge as part of our 'club' benefits. In addition, we also thoroughly enjoyed evening cocktails and canapés (6 - 8pm) at the breathtakingly beautiful Air Bar. We chose to eat dinner in the resort restaurants for the majority of the week but I would say that prices are relatively high in both establishments, resulting in many guests choosing to eat at other local restaurants. Considering the pricing of food and drink at this resort I believe that the additional charges for IC Club benefits offer phenomenal value for money. We visited the Chi Spa once during the week and we felt the pricing of the treatments was reasonable. On a slightly negative note, I was disappointed that the Spa lacked a pool of any sort. As I alluded to in the title of my review, a major asset of this resort lies in its staff. Without exception, we received excellent service from every member of staff throughout the resort. Bar and restaurant service was always first class and the wonderful butler service was exceptionally well led by a very patient and professional Steve, who always went out of his way to ensure that our needs were met. Mercedes, our personal butler, was at the end of a mobile phone for 24 hours a day but the entire butler team ensured that we felt thoroughly spoilt throughout our stay. Finally, I would like to express personal thanks to Fongbeer, the relatively new Front Office Manager at this resort. From the very first greeting to the final sad goodbyes, this wonderful lady 'went the extra mile' to make us feel that we had chosen not only the best hotel in Koh Samui but the best hotel in Thailand. Thank you very much Fongbeer - we hope to meet you again next year.
"Somewhat underwhelmed by the experience but they appear to be trying"
Booked the Intercon for one night as our first stay in the Taling Ngam part of the island. Given the brand and the location, we had high expectations for our short stay and intended to "make the most" of our time there. As we had upgraded to a 'Panoramic Ocean View Resort Classic' room, we were somewhat initially unimpressed by the room-type in comparison to the online photos - the room style is OK but a bit dated and quite cluttered, and the highlight outdoor terrace area was under-maintained, stark, and even had a chair missing. The natural westerly view speaks for itself, but in terms of harnessing the view from the room and making it a breathtaking outlook, the room somewhat failed. We had further mechanical issues (faulty minibar) which required supervising maintenance work for an hour (Intercon time is ticking away...), but staff appeared on hand and enthusiastic to get things sorted (fixing fridge, locating balcony chair, replacing outdoor cushions etc). In terms of F&B, we enjoyed a nice Thai meal at the 'Flames' outlet, and experienced a late-drink at the signature 'Air Bar' which was very ordinary in terms of atmosphere and ambiance, despite the heavy promotion of the venue in most media on the island. It doesn't compare to the similar outlet at the W Samui. The breakfast buffet was extensive, even if the food items are contained in a rather dark service room. Our poolside lunch was decent but pretty hefty cost-wise for fresh-but-basic salads etc. The resort facilities are good but you must be prepared for some walking and numerous flights of stairs if you don't want to rely on the resort buggies. The beachfront area is nice enough and has the sunset outlook, but its not the finest sand we've experienced in Thailand, and water cleanliness looks to be an issue. Whilst the main swimming pool is quite large with surrounding F&B and facilities, the "other pools" are quieter and I gather you're left to your own devices if you so wish. On a quiet afternoon for the hotel we enjoyed the swimming pool by the reception which provides a variety of views with the benefit of full and attentive service. We didn't use the Spa or gym etc. In summary, whilst the room's private terrace and sunset experience is something to remember and a real highlight of staying in Taling Ngam, we will unfortunately also remember the operational issues and unexpected blemishes on what we had assumed would be a top-tier resort stay. That said, we must also give full credit to the Assistant Front Office Manager on duty at the time for his efforts to discuss and review the issues raised during our stay - his attention to the details ensured that we left the Intercon with a far better impression that we thought possible after the first few hours. Based on this, we will certainly consider to stay again but will approach it with greater caution.
"Enjoying the phenomenon view "
Just visiting the hotel bar, I can only judge the service for the bar. The view is amazing and breathtaking!!!! And amaaaaaazing!!!!!! 😁 Restroom provided unfortunately no air-conditioning and it smell after urine. But THE view and the Whiskey sour are really worth going there. Especially for sunset 🌇
