"Excellent Service from booking through checkout"
We loved everything about our stay at the Intercontinental Pudong except that it was short (only 14 hours). From the moment we made our booking, we received support and information direct from the hotel concierge regarding local restaurants. As ihg members, we received a room upgrade and complimentary extra bed for my son. Upon check-in, my son was given a nice soft toy and some cookies. There's also a kids area which was showing a film. The concierge was also very helpful in getting us in a taxi across town for our dinner reservation. The rooms are dated but very clean and comfortable (I will be inquiring about where to purchase some pillows). The breakfast buffet was outstanding and service was friendly and attentive. The choice of food from asian to western was limitless and very delicious. We loved this hotel for the service and would definitely come back. The staff were very attentive, willing to listen and provided service with a smile. Thank you!
"Good location, good food, and friendly staff"
Having visited Shanghai many times for business, this was my first time at this property. As some have stated, the property is a little dated, but not too bad. The (Chinese) staff was friendly, accommodating, and spoke more than passable English. Food was very good with lots of options at each meal.
As the location of this hotel is just perfect located close to our office - we decided to book it! Good rooms , clean n well designed! Coffee shop' Not really inviting and too much food to choose from - in the end someone has to pay for it and it will for sure be the guest!! Price of food too high ! Another pojnt to improve - taxi availability!! Long waiting times to get taxi from street! No pool ready! Short - a little bit overpriced!!
"An 'OK' Experience"
We liked our experience at the Intercontinental Shanghai Pudong, but it could have been better. Part of our disappointment was the location of the hotel. We were in Shanghai to visit family members and we found the location, on what could best be described as the back side of Pudong, to be inconvenient. We spent most of our time either in the Pudong business district (a 20- to 30-minute walk in 35-degree heat) or on the other side of the river. The Century Avenue subway station is only about a ten-minute walk, but I still wish we had stayed at a hotel nearer to the Bund or People's Square. As for the hotel, it was pleasant enough, but there were minor irritations. We arrived in Shanghai early in the morning and arrived at the hotel about 8.30 a.m. We were hoping to be lucky enough to get a room straightaway. The receptionist, while very pleasant, made it clear that there was no way we could get out room at that hour unless we paid extra and proceeded to offer us a bewildering array of options (upgrading to the club floor, a breakfast package, etc.) in exchange for the ability to go straight to our room. We finally chose a breakfast package, although it increased the price of our room from CNY849.60 to CNY1457 per night! I am sure I would have not agreed to this if I had not been so tired from the flight from London and verbally battered by the receptionist. Our room was a King Suite and it was indeed large and luxurious. However, it badly needed updating; lots of signs of wear and tear. Likewise, the carpeting in the 20th floor corridor was fairly threadbare. Overall, the quality of the hotel was not in keeping with other Intercontinental properties at which we have stayed. Now about that very expensive breakfast. The breakfast buffet in the lobby restaurant is certainly plentiful, with a wide choice of both Western and Chinese fare. Perhaps that choice was too great because most of the items that I selected each day - scrambled eggs, pancakes - were invariably cold. Coffee and juice were promptly served as soon as we were seated, but getting a second cup of coffee was a struggle on three of the four days of our stay. One other complaint. One of the major venues in which the hotel holds weddings is exposed to the atrium around which the rooms are arranged. I was having a snooze late one afternoon when I was awakened by what seemed to be an ungodly noise. It was the master of ceremonies at a wedding reception, and his shouting could be noticeably heard behind the closed door of my 20th floor suite. While I am pleased for the happy couple, I did not expect my late afternoon nap to be disturbed by their celebration. When I complained to the front desk, they simply shrugged and said they did not hold such events late at night. There is nothing really wrong with the Intercontinental Shanghai Pudong, but it could be so much better. I know that management has said in previous comments that a renovation programme will begin in 2017, but that won't help us. I would not say that I will never return, but I will probably will choose a different hotel next year when I return to Shanghai.
"Disappointed and overpriced!"
I booked at this hotel thinking to get a nicer hotel given my 13.5 hr flight into the city but I was disappointed to find an outdated Intercontinental hotel with just average looking rooms... carpets and bathrooms looked old and although you get a nice square footage (that you typically don't use!) there was nothing that truly makes this hotel any better than the Crowne Plaza Century Park near by. Sorry Intercontinental family but I was truly hopping to get an outstanding room and amenities for the extra $100 dollars a night that I paid here! One thing that I certainly appreciate is the nice staff attitude and the nice service at the hotel, although the difficulties that I faced checking in trying to understand all the "extra" charges as the receptionist was trying to explain to me made my experience at this hotel below average.
