"Great food, great service"
I have been here for a conference and I was impressed by the room, food and service provided. The breakfast is excellent, a lot of different choices. Particularly delicious the pastries and the fresh fruit.
"Comfortable hotel, excellent service"
My husband and I stayed here while he was on business and I was on holiday. The room was very comfortable and breakfast buffet was very generous. The gym was a bit small and is not run by the hotel itself. Staff were very helpful and were kind enough to write down the type of metro ticket so I could obtain one, as I don't speak any Mandarin and no one at the metro station speaks English. We had a very early morning flight and we were supplied with a breakfast to go when we checked out at 3am.
"Lovely hotel and great rooms"
Stayed in this hotel as we were connecting from a domestic flight to leave the next day. Was a wonderful night in a lovely hotel. As a couple of our party (myself included) were Rewards members, we were kindly upgraded to very nice rooms. Having stayed the previous week in a nice but slightly underwhelming 4 star hotel, it was lovely to spend the night in a very good 5 star hotel. Rooms and staff were great as was the bar we spent a short time in. Breakfast was very good. Will stay here again when I'm back in Shanghai in the future.
"Convenient location, great room, excellent service"
We enjoyed 4 nights in a Club level room and were pleasantly surprised to see it was not dated or tired as other reviews suggested. If you arrive from Pudong airport, you can get here quickly using the airport express train (300km/hr) then a taxi or subway. We got stung by a taxi tout as we got off the airport express train. Ignore the touts and walk to the proper taxi rank outside the train station. It's about 30 renminbi/yuan to the hotel. (The tout charged 130 yuan). The Metro/subway is 6 minutes walk from the hotel and very clean, safe and the fastest way to get to the sights. The Club Lounge breakfasts were more than enough for us. We tried the main breakfast area once (huge range of choices and staff offering takeaway containers if you wanted to take pastries etc). The milk in China tastes different to milk in Australia so we started each day with expressos or tea (lovely range of local teas). If you are looking for a bespoke men's tailor, Mr Kent Sum on the ground floor opposite the hotel bar is extremely professional. Kent is from Hong Kong and his range of high quality fabrics and skill is top notch, especially if you aren't a regular size. The concierge team were very helpful and each morning they printed out instructions in Chinese for taxi drivers each to help us get around and see the sights. All the staff are warm and friendly and keen to help wherever possible. In Shanghai it's fine to put paper in the toilet (unlike Beijing). Overall we were delighted with the room and the hotel. And the Xmas decorations made us feel very much at home.
It has been a few years since I last stayed here. I had a few issues when I arrived, which I will not focus on here as the hotel managed them in exemplary fashion and we parted good friends. The corridors of the hotel are a little tired looking, and I did not like the air-conditioning which blows warm air only in winter, but one could open a window. The rooms and common areas of the hotel are excellent though and it is spotlessly clean. The Club Lounge from the perspective of food and drink is one of the very best I have experienced. What sets the hotel apart, especially for China, is their staff. They are all very friendly and helpful, most speak good English and one feels very welcome. I would also like to express a big thank you to Emily from the Club Lounge who truly saved the day when I was cranky at the start. Excellent customer service and she went out of her way to help. her smile was quite infectious.
