We hit a problem immediately on arrival. slow check in and queuing. I hate queuing especially as the reception layout meant that people entering the hotel would walk across the path you are queuing to check in. Arrrgh. bad planning. Perhaps have your reception at the back of the lobby where the seating is currently situated then not a problem if people are walking in and accessing the lifts also the staff are looking directly at the entrance doorway that makes more sense to me. The room we checked into had a problem in that it smelt strongly of toilet pipe problems. The windows had been opened on a very cold day and the air conditioning was up full. We changed to another room a few doors down although that smelt and someone had sprayed something to cover the smell. The room was comfortable apart from the squeaky floorboards above and on our own floor as we walked over the floor we could hear so they must have heard it below. The toilet design is also a bit strange the toilet paper is sited well behind the toilet seat so you have to really contort to reach it. hmmmm!!! The rooms are not very well insulated sound wise and we heard people walking up the corridors in the early hours and coughing next door and even someone having a tinkle in the toilet. I'm paying to hear this''' I have to say the design of the rooms left a few desires but that aside the staff were lovely, helpful and efficient. The problems we encountered were more to do with design and perhaps toilet pipe problems I'm not sure anyway. Another niggle was having to pay £15.00 per night for the privilege of parking our car outside the hotel. A real put off for another time.. The hotel is well situated for shopping but then again there are a few hotels well situated around Cardiff for that. It is easy to drive in to but again the charge for the car park is a put off. Would I stay here again ....... not sure based on this visit.
"Too noisy and overpriced."
The clubs on the street go until 4am. We barely slept. The first receptionist I asked wouldn't move us to a new room because she said they were full. I went back an hour later and asked a new person at reception and he kindly moved us to another room, but it was the same situation. Too loud. And the rooms are just okay. Not worth the money at all. Go to the Radisson Blu ten minutes down the road instead.
"Expensive and over-rated"
It's a noisy hotel and guests are a necessary evil, rather than a valued customer. As a single traveller I wasn't given any advice about the restaurant or local area. I had to move rooms and was left to find the new one on my own, only to find the door didn't lock. They assured me it would be fixed, I would only have to 'jiggle' the door that evening and it would be fixed the following day -ha! As a single female traveller I think this was unacceptable.
"Visiting for long week-end."
The staff, particularly in reception, were very helpful and professional. We felt welcome from the start. This hotel was smart, modern and clean in all areas including the bathroom and bedroom which was also comfortable. It is in a good central location, and with Cardiff's excellent transport network, we had no trouble getting around. I felt biscuits could have been provided on the tray in the room, and newspapers in the lounge; small inexpensive changes which would make it more homely. I also felt it was a little overpriced for a "room only" basis and there did not appear to be many places nearby to have breakfast out. Overall, an enjoyable stay and would go there again.
"Disappointed and overpriced"
Room wasnt ready at 7pm and room given was different to what was booked and over charged for.wish we had stayed somewhere else but hey ho lessons learnt and all that, cardiff as a city is well worth the visit Though
