I have stayed at the JW Marriott many times before, and I will stay there again. But I had a peculiar experience on this trip. After checking in, I went up to my room and found the door open, no soap in the room, and the desk area was not especially clean. While I am confident this was an odd and unrepresentative experience, it was not acceptable. I keep the rating as high as I do because the location is great and the hotel is otherwise pretty nice.
"Conference Goers BEWARE JW cancels confirmed reservations!!"
My reservation for 3 nights was made via the housing office for the conference I am attending months in advance. Upon checking in at 7:30 pm, I was informed they "ran out of rooms". The front desk supervisor agreed that I have a valid reservation and the hotel is at fault, but there is nothing they can do. I showed them proof that my reservation was guaranteed for late arrival and my husband had even called in 2 hours earlier to confirm that I would be checking in at 7:30. As I stood there attempting to check in, 3 other guests were checked in and give room keys! When I demanded an explanation I was told by the front desk manager that they have "different contractual obligations". As a woman traveling alone for a conference, I felt abandoned by Marriott as a brand. My husband has been a Platinum Marriott member for many years. We have always gone out of our way to stay with Marriott. Being treated this way is unacceptable and discriminatory. I have a valid reservation. JW Marriott Chicago chose to ignore their commitment to my reservation in favor of other more lucrative paying guests and this property cannot be trusted.
"5 Star Service and Best Hotel Gym"
One of the best hotels you will ever experience. Staff was professional, proficient and friendly. Rooms were very nice and furnished very nicely. Great location downtown within walking distance to all the good sites. The gym is the nicest I have ever seen in a hotel.
"Another Great Marriott Experience"
As in true fashion, the JW in Chicago delivered another great travel experience. From the moment we checked in on a Monday night until we flew out three days later, the service, the room, the hotel representatives, went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. A special thank you to Peter and Carmen addressing us by our names upon arrival and ensuring our room was exactly as we needed. They even surprised us with a special treat to help celebrate our family mini vacation. We think this is the best location for anything you want to do while in Chicago. Also, a very special thank you to everyone in the concierge lounge, they definitely know how to make you feel welcome. Again, Thank You JW for an awesome visit and see you next year, same time!
"Great place to St"
I found this to be a great example of the JW Marriott hotel line. Service was impeccable and the beds are fantastic. I found the concierge to be extremely helpful and pleasant. I also found the staff in the Executive Lounge to be pleasant and go out of their way to make you feel welcome.
