"Nice hotel, great for families"
Stayed for four nights here in August with my wife two kids, my parents and sister. I have a fondness for JW Marriotts as I am rarely disappointed and the JW Marriott was no exception! We had two renovated rooms that were spacious and very well maintained. The pool was better than average for a city hotel pool. The concierge was helpful. The location (in the loop) was ideal (short walk to most places... including the Art Institute of Chicago... and a short uber ride to the magnificent mile / gold coast). I would absolutely stay again!
"What a concierge lounge"
For all you Gold and Platinum Marriott peeps, this concierge lounge is one of the best (in the states) I have been too. The dinner selection for food was on point and they offered a good selection of wine. Plus, the attendant was a wealth of knowledge on Chicago and was very pleasant. As for the hotel....an amazing staff. You would expect that, but it is still refreshing to have that attentiveness that we are used to. Enjoy the Windy City.
"Nice Hotel, Good Location"
Good sized room, friendly hotel staff. Close to shopping, restaurants, etc. Nice alternative to staying on Michigan avenue. Large lobby but not overrun with too many people. Good restaurant onsite too.
"Room was a little worn"
As a platinum member, I was told I was upgraded, so was surprised to find the room was more worn and smaller than I had imagined. The small desk had surface bubbles and was scraped all over... Don't think it was suppose to be shabby chic. The bed was not very comfortable, especially on the right side where anytime I got on and off the bed, it felt like the mattress went through the lower frame. The pillows though are great, and I like the side chair. Appreciate the anthropologie toiletries, and the bathroom was very nice. I was disappointed to find out that the lounge is not open after 11am on weekends. No access at all, not for water or coffee. I feel like I'm stealing a ton of water as I walk out of the lounge with several bottles before it gets locked up. Even if they don't serve evening apps, why not allow access at least' This is annoying since I prefer to work in the lounges when the rooms are small. Breakfast had some good choices and the two staff who worked the weekend breakfast in the lounge were very helpful. Too many hotels in Chicago, on the fence with this one, maybe 3.5.
"Classic Chicago Hotel Didn't Disappoint "
Visiting for a long weekend to see Hamilton, our friends recommended this hotel. We found it to be in a great location downtown. We walked to the Field Museum in 20 minutes for a daytime adventure, and the theatre was only 6 blocks away. The hotel itself has that classic feel. Lots of marble, nice lounge bar, mellow, yet cosmopolitan atmosphere. Not very large, but bigger than a boutique hotel to be sure. The W Hotel is across the street if you're looking for some additional excitement. For us this was perfect. The exercise room was very spacious and had a lot of good equipment. Open 24 hours. The pool and jacuzzi is co-ed and was pretty deserted on a weekday, but a few families with children came down on the weekend. We enjoyed the Club Room, which is an upcharge, but provides a very decent continental breakfast including bacon and eggs, espresso machine, then in the afternoon/evening they offer wine and cheese plus some delicious appetizers at happy hour. Considering that Chicago is on the expensive side for food, this was a welcome and convenient alternative. We would book there again and recommend it.
