"Disappointing for a JW Marriott"
If you are a Marriott loyalist like I am, you will be deeply disappointed by this property. I have stayed at JW Marriott locations across the world, and this location just does not live up to the high level of service you come to expect from a JW property, and the property itself shows its age. The warmth and feeling of staying with family I have received in Hong Kong, Cancun, Orlando and other JW properties is missing from this location. The shining star at this hotel is Colton. He takes care of you at the beach, and he does a magnificent job at it. Although the umbrellas are old and rusted, he treats you like you expect to be treated at a JW property. Long story short, I have 600+ nights with Marriott and rarely speak poorly of them, because they always provide a level of service that brings you back. When you find that one the falls short, it disappoints and sticks out like a sore thumb. Location alone will not save this hotel. This is not a JW Marriott property, and would not even be considered a better Marriott. If you are coming, just lower your expectations.
"Outstanding Hotel in Rio, Right On Copacabana Beach"
We spent 3 days here while sightseeing and could not have been more impressed. The staff and hotel property were excellent and the views of Copacabana Beach and the surrounding area were stunning, from our room and especially the rooftop bar. The concierge prearranged for our airport transportation, a private guide for a tour of the city and outstanding recommendations for locally favored restaurants and nightlife. We were here just before Carnival and the hotel had lobby shows during our stay, a nice treat. While there are other great hotel options the JW is right on Copacabana Beach in the middle of it all with the best views of Rio. We would highly recommend staying here on your visit.
"Beautiful experience in RIO!"
JW Marriot went beyond our expectations to bring us a fantastic stay in our first time in Rio. especially Susana at the executive lounge was beyond helpful and truly a friend a Rio. Please send our regards to her and we hope to see you again in our next trip to Rio. Att, Silvestre Compres
The hotel is very well located and by it I don't only mean it is in the midle of Copacabana but it is also close to other Copacabana shops and restaurants (I realy recomend a very nice and afortable local restaurant just around the corner named Rian). Neghbourhood is calm and feels secure to walk around. Hotel is very nice but the stuff is so welcoming and helpful that they feel like not being from this world. Hotel has it's stand in the beach in front where you can get complimentary towels and sun shades. In total I feel I would recomend this hotel to everione!
"Great location, excellent beach and pool service! Read until the end!"
Centrally located in Copacabana! You can easily walk surrounding shops and restaurants, Ipanema beach and R. Freitas lagoon; 30-minute drive to downtown, Corcovado, Sugar Loaf, Santa Teresa and airport. Beach service was excellent! Kleitom was very attentive and courteous. We got nice reclining seats and clean towels, plus waiting services for drinks! Pool service was awesome too. Alex makes great pina coladas. Bell service excellent! We got a lovely ocean-view room! Hotel is clean and well-maintained, although our bathroom could do a little bit more scrubbing, and the shower curtain needed replacing. Turn down service was good - we loved getting bon bons every night! Breakfast buffet is ok. For $20 per head, I don't feel like I got a lot. We had breakfast at the Belmond Copacabana Palace for $30 per head and got so much better food (lots of smoked salmon!) and service. Check-in was good and front desk was friendly. Felipe is awesome! Gave us free late check out until 2pm. Concierge had so many good suggestions, specifically shopping at Hippie Market and night life in Rio Scenarium. Check-out had some issues. We prepaid via Booking.com but our final bill showed different room rates which increased our bill by ~$80 per day. We called Booking.com and they contacted hotel management. The management explained that the bill was prepared before we checked in; Booking.com emailed me and said that hotel management explained that the different rate was due to foreign exchange fluctuations. Both stories don't make sense but they honored our original rates anyway. They also initially charged us "optional tourism taxes" which they later waived.
