"Excellent Experience All Around"
Pros: 1) Customer service was excellent from start to finish. 2) Room service was great. I fell very ill before I got to the hotel, and the food was fresh and always delivered before the estimated delivery time. 3) The Shinsegae mall is attached to the hotel, which is great. The pastry shop in the hotel had some amazing desserts, which I enjoyed. 4) The hotel offers to accompany guests to the hospital across the street, which I learned when I called the front desk to see if there was a convenience store in the hotel where I could buy medication. I didn't go to the hospital, but it was very reassuring that they do that for guests. Cons: 1) There were no available outlets near/next to the bed, which meant that I had to charge my phone (which I use as my alarm clock) on the opposite end of the room where the desk was, which was about 10 feet away.
"Shopping and food was literally 2 mins away, and I am not talking about the excellent food choices the hotel offered."
Great customer service at this J.W. Marriot. I took my wife here for her birthday and we were blown away by the service the staff provided. They now have a lifelong customer and if I ever am in need of hotel accomodations anywhere in the world, they will always be my first choice.
JW Marriotts are the top of the Marriott range but I’ve generally found the global JW experience to be very inconsistent. The JW Marriott Seoul (176 Sinbanpo-ro) has some great staff but the building is dated and just not up to the standard that meets my expectation. The bed was comfortable but no match for the luxury of its main competitor: the Westin Sweet Sleeper. The fixed shower head was one of those water saving things that turned my normally pleasant morning shower a frustrating experience. The room and public areas are well maintained but a little tired. The hotel is located adjacent to a very large shopping mall on the edge of the Gangnam area but 2 or 3 stops from Gangnam station. Some of the higher rooms have a fine view over the river to the hills around Seoul but otherwise the hotel precinct is surrounded by bus stations and car parks. Overall the JW Marriott Seoul was OK, but that’s the whole point, a luxury brand should never be rated as ‘OK’. Does Marriott want me to lower my expectation of the brand' If I was coming back to Seoul, would I choose this hotel again' No. I’m sure I can easily do better. One last thing: avoid the Chinese restaurant in the basement. I arrived, tired hungry and unfamiliar with Korean money. Ordered two dishes and a beer. Food quality: 4/10. Restaurant atmosphere: 3/10. Staff: 9/10. Cost: USD100! Tip: Try Texas de Brazil, go out the front door and walk about 50 meters down the street.
"To a Wonderful Bell.Door Man-David!"
I hope this review will reach the eyes of the Bell/Door hotelier in this wonderful hotel called David. Honestly speaking, I was not a guest in the hotel but as I had difficulty in finding a taxi, I walked all the way to this well-known hotel hoping that there would be some taxis in the entrance. Unfortunately it was a very busy Friday night and there were no taxi but this wonderful hotelier, David (also a perfect English speaker), welcomed me and my friend with a very warm smile and invited us in the hotel as it a very cold day. He escorted us to the lobby sofa and asked us to wait until he would find a taxi for us: he used his own private smartphone to search for a taxi and my friend and I truly felt a courteous hospitality from his side. In the end, it was impossible to find a taxi but he later gave us all the directions to find a place to stay nearby (as we had not booked any place to stay at) and helped us with Korean translation. We wanted to show our deep gratitude with some tip, but he denied it and simply accepted our thoughts and words. Hope this message will reach him and hope the top management will recognize his wonderful hospitality. As a Bell/Door Man he is the first and last contact of a customer when visiting a hotel, and he truly carries a hospitality mind in his heart. David, we are very very grateful for what you have done for us. You are the reason we will be staying in your hotel on our next visit in February. THANK YOU (all the love and gratitude from Tokyo, Japan!)
Stayed here for 3 nights in early November. Located at Gangnam, didn't have a chance to explore the area. There's a convenience store (family mart) & Starbucks near the hotel. Room is very spacious and comfortable. Bathroom is very spacious with nice toiletries. Bed was comfortable but pillows are too soft for my liking. Breakfast spread was great with both western & Asian selection. The lounge was the 2nd floor was nice and cosy. I probably won't stay here again if not for work, would prefer to stay near Dong Daemun or Myeong Dong area next time.
