Our daughter is teaching English in Thailand. We met her in Phuket for a little R&R. We had a great stay at the JW Marriott in Phuket. The rooms were clean, big and in great condition. The staff was attentive. They have a nurse on call that came within 5 minutes of our request (our daughter had a slight motorbike accident). It was 500 Bhat for a house call - think about what that would have cost in the USA. The buffet breakfast was fantastic - Recheni is ranked as was one of our Top 10 servers of all time. The only negative for me was as a Platinum MR member, I was expecting at least some sort of upgrade as the resort was not overly busy. However, this is a result of the Marriott Rewards Entitlement mentality - our standard room was great.
"Ginja Cooking School "
I just spent two great hours this afternoon with Chef Kong learning how to make three delicious Thai dishes. He made it easy and fun. I have had some experience with Thai cooking so I was not a complete novice. He was able to teach at my level without any problem. Some ingredients are prepared for you, but you get to do some chopping yourself. After each course, you sit down and try it. He puts the cooked food together for you in an elegant presentation. I got to make a duck red curry, (they had made the paste ahead of time), a glass noodle salad with chicken, and shrimp cakes. The cooking school is in a purpose built building with groups of two chef stations. There are additional helpers to clean up after you and hand you a towel to clean your hands. They make you feel like a spoiled famous chef :-). I had been looking forward to this as a highlight of my vacation and it lived up to expectations. Chef Kong was always happy to answer questions and to stop to explain. Highly recommended!
Special mention here for Chef Kong at the Ginja Cooking School at the JW Marriott. My children and I had a fantastic morning visiting the local market and cooking some delicious food in his teaching kitchen. Wonderful experience for all of us and we learnt a lot!
First visit here and the whole family loved it (kids aged 16, 14, 10). Lots of activities for kids to try, exercise and cooking classes for adults. It was raining quite a bit but so many places to get out of weather and still relax. Food in all the restaurants was delicious but not particularly cheap. But the best part of the stay was the amazing staff. Every single person seemed so friendly and went out of their way to make sure we were happy with our experience. The pool attendants, the chef running the cooking class, the laundry helper - every single staff member we encountered was happy and committed to making sure we enjoyed our stay. Only one issue was that the tiles outside the rooms were a bit slippery when wet - but that might just be kids racing around in flip flops'
I love the kids club and the activities but I mostly love the kind staff. I really want to mention a staff called Nan. She is so nice. All the kids in the club think of her as a very funny and kind staff. I really hope I will see her next time I come to Phuket. I also really loved the other staff who were called Samantha, Nui, Love, Mew, Gamboom and Pookie. Please make Nan a permanent staff so I can enjoy my time with her like I did on this holiday every time I go on holiday. It would not be the same without her. Thanks you so much.
