"Beautiful Hotel, Great Location"
This is a beautiful hotel conveniently located close to Union Square. It's walking distance to stores, eateries and cafes. It features a spacious bar/ lounge area and a restaurant. Our junior king suite was beautifully appointed with a large bathroom and a deep tub. Housekeeping service and front desk staff were attentive and amiable. The hotel's corner rooms can be very chilly when there is bad weather and low temps outside. It could be the older windows. Although, the heat worked well. Overall, this is my favorite go to in San Francisco.
"Excellent stay, only a couple of minor issues"
This is a great hotel. Let me get the missteps out of the way first, I found the walls a bit thin from the standpoint we could hear our neighbors probably more than we should have been able to, and you can REALLY hear the water pipes as others in the hotel are taking showers, etc., so the sound proofing isn't the best. But other than that, this place is terrific! The staff were great, each and every interaction I had was with someone genuinely friendly and warm. The lobby and bar area (also in the lobby) was very inviting, and the roaring fireplace was also welcome on a cold wet evening. That bathroom was great, with a separate tub and shower enclosure (thanks, I hate taking showers in a tub with a vinyl shower curtain), the bed was comfortable, and there was plenty of room to spread out. About a block from Union Square, with lots of eateries to try out with just a block or two walk away from the hotel. Major thumbs up with this hotel, I'll certainly be coming back!
"Will be better"
This place is near Union Square and a nice long walk from the financial district. This hotel is the same design as the Marriott Marquis hotels in NYC and Atlanta, except with earthquake bracing across the interior courtyard. Reception is up the stairs on the 3rd floor. The elevators are Charlie-and-the-Chocolate Factory great glass swooshing bullets. The gym is on the 5th floor and is surprisingly small for a hotel this size. Clearly this hotel was heady in its day--with nice dark stonework in the bathrooms and relatively large rooms. The color schemes scream 1987. The single-paned windows do little to keep out the not-insignificant noise from the streets below, even at 4 am. As I write this now, I am inhaling the subtle vapors of a diesel truck idling somewhere below my room (I am on the 6th floor) as the fumes creep through the closed and locked windows. Lest this review be mistaken as a negative one, I will say that I look forward to returning to this hotel after their renovations are complete. The renovations described on the big boards in the lobby are impressive and beautiful. Staff are very friendly and service-oriented. The concierge extremely helpful. In short, everything you would expect from a JW. I will be back--AFTER the renovation is complete.
"Great place to stay "
Spent three nights at JW Marriott, San Francisco. The hotel location is great and the rooms are very nice. I did notice there a lot of mosquitos in the hotel. I had some buzzing in my room at night and also saw some up in the Concierge Club. There was also a mildew smell in the Club - it was raining while I was there some maybe there was water leaking on the carpet somewhere.
"Weekend Getaway "
Great hotel location and very convenient. Walking distance from shopping, several Starbucks locations and a block from a cable car stop. You could also walk to Chinatown and if you are really active down to Fisherman's wharf. The room is a spacious and beautifully decorated.
