I just went to JW for lunch while attending a conference. I walked up to sit at the bar for a quick lunch. I was informed that I had to buy a minimum of $100 in food and beverage to sit at the bar. Way to take care of your loyal guests... guess how many were at the bar - a number less than 1.
"Central location "
The hotel is situated in a good spot in union Square . It is a bit tired looking now and good do with a bit of an upgrade. The hotel staff were really great could not be faulted . Cheerful and attentive to your every need. Beds are really comfortable and rooms are a good size don't particularly like showering in a bath though would prefer a walk in shower. We had a good day and really nothing to complain about
"Excellent location, lovely staff, fine experience"
I booked a stay using points and was treated to a room upgrade to a junior suite. Whilst the room wasn't ready at my arrival, the lobby staff did all it could to make my brief wait as enjoyable as possible. The lobby is rather stately and offers no end of entertainment from food, drink, or people watching. Room features are what you'd expect from a JW Marriott property. What made my selection a wise one is the location. The property is located near the main shopping thoroughfare and is a short walk from San Francisco's must see Chinatown neighborhood. One minor niggle--the valet parking fee is exorbitant and so it's wise to park just across the street at a public parking garage for significant savings.
"What was Forbes thinking''"
Forbes ranked this hotel one of the best in the world' Because they have a lot of polished brass' Because it has an elegant lobby' I really don't understand it. Let me say it is a nice hotel but not really a top quality JW. Why' First of all the bathrooms are beautiful but not practical. A British phone booth has more room in it than the showers. Really uncomfortable. If you are a larger person either wide or tall you will be hard pressed to wash your whole body. The rooms are nice but again not much better than an average Marriott. The service is decent, nothing out of the world. If you have gold or above Marriott awards status better to go stay at the Marriott in Union square. The breakfasts there are spectacular. At the JW in the executive lounge they were just passable. Nothing special. Sorry but for my money I prefer the Marriott at Union square.
"Very frustrating experience!"
When I booked this hotel,I have very high expectations since its a JW Marriott. We've stayed at different JW and Marriott hotels around the world and we've always had a pleasant experience. This was a very different one! We pulled in to the property at 2 am on the 27th December. The moment I got out of the car, I was greeted by the valet attendant and the bell hop with a question "Are you sure you're checking in here' There's another Marriott on the other side of the road. This is JW." What a way to welcome your guest at JW. To add to that, the bell hop had his earphones on and didn't even bother to take it out while talking to me. We all went out of the car and took all our luggage out without any offer to help us. And when we were walking in to the hotel, thats the only time he asked if we need help with our luggage which we declined. The next morning, we were at the lounge for breakfast. My three kids sat on an empty table and the waiter named David asked them to leave. He said he's reserving that table for a family waiting outside. The lounge is a first come first served place. Everyone who has access to the lounge can come and find your own table. It was a busy morning and everyone were waiting for a table to be available. I was very upset that he will asked my children to leave. I did not want to make a scene but I told him that he should not be reserving seats. We squeezed in on a small table that morning. I spoke to the manager and he said that he will inform the director of operations and the front office manager. I diid not hear form them. They sent a card to our room informing us that they credited 15,000 points to my Marriott rewards program. Not even a courtesy call. I don't need their points. To top this experience, on that same day, when we came back that afternoon, our other room key (we booked two rooms) was not working. We took it to the front desk and we were informed that we’ve already checked out. Our reservation was for three nights. That was only our second day. Our experience here was almost unacceptable. And the response from the management was not very pleasant. I will never bring my family back to this hotel.
