Service from the entire hotel staff was excellent...we were always treated as a valued customer and like a long time family friend. That is difficult to do, and the entire hotel staff always made us feel welcomed at your hotel.Comment of Y. Cole , United States the 2015-02-23
"Great location in Kyoto"
We stayed at this hotel as part of a tour group and we were not disappointed. Its rooms were very comfortable and the bathroom amenities more than adequate. There was good wifi connection - as with all the places that we stayed in Japan. Staff were more than helpful. It is well situated to walk to many of the sights and also to all the shopping areas. There is a station under the hotel that makes access to other areas very easy. Plenty of eating areas to choose from close to the hotel. Breakfast was a buffet style selection of mainly Japanese food - all very good and plenty to choose from. Great hotel, with good staff - well recommended
Before I get to the particulars of our stay here is why you want to stay here. First, they have a free shuttle from Kyoto station to their hotel. You can get the information on the website. I only discovered that about three days before our trip so it is easy to miss. If you want to sightsee you can also arrange for them to take your luggage to the hotel. Second, the location is within walking distance of Gion and the Imperial Palace and other major sights are easily accessible by bus. There is also shopping and food options within five or ten minutes walk. When you arrive it is as though you have stepped back in time 70 years. The uniforms the bell staff wear is quite literally from the 1930s. The service and attention to detail is perfect. As is typical of Japanese hotels you cannot sleep four people in a western hotel room so we had to get two rooms. Rooms are also not connecting so it is one parent one child per room. We booked two superior twin rooms with a city view for three nights. We booked 60 days in advance and got a fantastic rate with breakfast. When we arrived we were upgraded, to the Executive floor. Wow! I had tried to book an Executive floor room but there were none available when I made my reservations. If you can get the Executive floor book it. The room is huge even by American standards and the bathroom was quite large and beautifully appointed. The beds were also large. There were two beds and both would be considered at a full size in America. We called housekeeping to have some laundry picked up and the door rang less than a minute later. I believe there was a butler on our floor as every call to housekeeping was responded to almost instantaneously. We had to have our luggage sent to our hotel in Niigata and that as handled seamlessly by the Bell desk. The only strange thing is that you have to turn in your key and then present credentials to retrieve it. We found that clunky but have had the same experience in Europe and even ryokans in Japan. We had a choice of three restaurants for breakfast and opted for the Japanese/Western on the 17th floor our entire stay. I can say, unequivocally, it was the best breakfast this trip and equal to the finest I have ever had. Anyplace you go in Japan the food is great. Even the convenience stores have great food, but the setting the service, the quality was just top notch. I hope we are able to book an Executive room our next trip but even if we could only get a superior or deluxe room I wouldn't hesitate to stay here.
Good location, classic authentic Hotel, Used to be "Kyoto Hotel". room is desent, servise is friendly. if you got enough cash, you will have good experience. There are only two or three hotel got taller than 15 floors. This is one of them. so all rooms are good view, but If you can choose the room, room faces east or south is better. Especially, east side room will be good view in the morning. Free Parking lot. Good food. Qucik access to everywhere. Perfect place. But I have to say, no super funny point.
"Best location for sightseeing "
Stayed for 3 nights just before Christmas and it was a very good choice of hotel for my family . It is within walking distance of Gion and the temples and shrines and the main shopping street , the castle . The subway is just below the hotel hence access to other tourist sites is so easy, such as going to the Arashiyama bamboo forest . The service is very good as well , the concierge and bellboy were very helpful to guide us to the restaurants in the area or help us get a taxi for 5 people. The amenities are basic though , no complimentary water bottles , the hotel still uses keys and not electronic key cards , no adaptors for our phones . But overall a very good hotel which is very centrally located especially when travelling with children .
We stayed here as part of an organised tour of Japan, and can't fault anything about the hotel. The location is very central for exploring Kyoto's sights and restaurants, and is also to a very high standard. The staff are very friendly and helpful and it's worth stopping for a coffee and cake in the downstairs tea rooms. Whilst in Kyoto, be sure to visit the Fushimi Inari temple with its Tori gates (worth the trip to Japan alone....)Stunning!
