Service from the entire hotel staff was excellent...we were always treated as a valued customer and like a long time family friend. That is difficult to do, and the entire hotel staff always made us feel welcomed at your hotel.Comment of Y. Cole , United States the 2015-02-23
"Excellent service awesome location "
We stayed here for three nights, the room was a nice big size with a Gorgeous city and mountain view. The location was right in the heart of the city 8mins from Gion the old district which came to life and night. About 20mins walk from the JR Kyoto station. The concierge could speak fluent English and would go the extra mile to Make sure you knew what bus to catch and how to get back ect.. there service was truly world class and I'm so happy I was able to score a deal to stay here because I will definitely be returning to this hotel!
"Great location of an old style hotel"
Good location and use of the shuttle bus [need to book] back into the city very handy. Very friendly and helpful staff especially the 2 ladies who assisted with authentic restaurant suggestions. Older style hotel where you have to hand in your key. No complimentary water or western tea bags [I’m trying with the green tea!]. Easy walking to the Gion, Imperial Palace and main areas. Good breakfast with plenty of options [western/Japanese], quality fresh fruit and great views. Nice gluten free restaurant across the road – Fortune Garden which served a good variety of food/tapas. I tried Choice café and had a pretty awful pizza. Get up early to beat the crowds for Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, Golden Temple and Fushimi Inari. Worthwhile going to Nara to visit the Todaiji Temple.
"Great Location... Super Hotel..."
Staying at the Okura Hotel was a real pleasure! The service at the hotel is friendly and efficient, the food and beverage offering superb and location is excellent. You will be within walking distance from the lovely riverside, great shopping areas( Teramachi dori and related shopping streets). Do try the local restaurants that dot the area if you love Japanese food... definitely coming back here
" Quite Nice and well located "
The Okura is quite nice and well located. Not as perfect as, say, the Grand Hyatt in Tokyo but very acceptable. The concierge desk is exceptionally good. The Metro is right outside the door and a constant stream of taxis too.
"A hotel in desperate need of a renovation"
This hotel is fraying at the edges. At some point many years ago it probably was one of the best in Kyoto, but it is easy to see that it is worn and in a bit of disrepair. The room was comfortable, but noise from the street seeped through the windows. The bathroom was ok, but the drain emits a fowl odor occasionally. I truly hope a renovation plan is underfoot.... Location is perfect.
