Fabulous resort, with attentive and polite staff, good choice of restaurants and activities. All staff were most attentive and we genuinely felt they were enjoying our stay as much as we were. Good food with plenty of choice. No problem with restaurant bookings despite the hotel being busy as long as you kept to the 2; hours in advance rule. Nice pools, not too busy, a few people using the towels on beds approach which would be easy to overcome by simply confiscating the hotel supplied towels so that guests abusing the system had to return to the towel outlet to grovel for return if their towel cards. Very tidy beach and gardens with plenty of sun beds and easy chairs. We were on an all inclusive tariff which caused no problems. A few items were only available by paying a supplement but these were few and far between and caused us no problems.
"All in all very good"
What can I say that's not already been said!' Not much probably but here is my penny's worth. Key thing with this resort is not to let the odd thing that lets it down wind you up, I was going to give it 3/5 because of some very frustrating service issues but on reflection the resort deserves a 4. I mean as the majority agree, the food is sublime and in every restaurant although we did have one service related issue in the Bistro. The choice and quality at the buffet is really one of the best I've experienced. So much choice and the Indian section is brilliant. Quality curry on tap and i didn't get bored of it. Only criticism was one night at bistrot I wanted to upgrade my burger from the classic to the Aberdeen Angus. I made it very clear to the waiter and questioned that there was actually a difference. I was assured there was and given my questioning I was disappointed when two classics came out. The initial burger came out after a long long wait and needless to say when they admitted that it was two classic they had served it was about another 30 minutes until the right order came out. In this time my wife ate her dinner whilst I waited for mine and then I ate my dinner. Not at the same time which was frustrating. They then said they wouldn't charge us for the upgrade burger to find out on check out they had. The wine and alcohol is generally great, decent red, white and sparking rose and sparking white which goes great with the meal. You do have to specify Carbert or Merlot or Shiraz as if you ask for just a red wine there is a really cheap sweet bottle which I think they prefer to pour. The merlot was quality though. Our room was great although location initially was disappointing we were in 1123 and as far away from the beach or pool as you could be, I wasn't happy about the location at first but once we had worked out how to navigate back to the room via the gardens it was ok. Plus on a positive the room was far away from any noisy area and apart from bed we didn't spend time in the room. The beach area is great, brilliant BBQ and little seating areas and comfy loungers. The water sports are almost allincluded which I thought was excellent. I'd never water skid before but got great instructions and tried it. Much harder work than I ever imagined it to be but a great new experience. One big, BIG problem which is nature but the hotel could do something about is that there are LOTs of sea urchins and even dangerous poisonous fish in the swimming area. Please if you read this one thing you must do is wear jelly or protective footwear. There were several incidents ranging from jelly fish to stone fish plus spikey urchins which you would never see. The hotel need to do more to make people aware of this as some of hear urchins are very dangerous. I kept feet off the ground when I'm water and wasn't afraid to get in but caution never harmed anyone. Took a bit trip with marcel one of the sales man on the beach. The day trip with swimming with wild dolphins was one of my most memorable experiences and we also hired a car. Do this rather than get a taxi. It's so simple and so safe to drive in Mauritius and in one day we saw a good half he island. The Severn colour sands, charmel waterfall, black river gauge and the chapel at the north of the island are all special places.
Stayed here in Mauritius for my honeymoon. And I bet we couldn't have enjoyed the serenity of Mauritius if we were somewhere else. The Ravenala is so beautiful good that you would surely fall in love with this place. Quality food, world class Spa , Beautiful private beach , many restaurants of different origin are here. Categorised under 4 star , but in my eyes it's more than 5 star property.
"Everything we could have hoped for"
We have just come back from spending a fantastic 2 weeks at the Ravenala. Having read some of the reviews we were a little hesitant before we arrived, we needn't have been. The service from arrival to departure was everything we could have hoped for. Check in we were welcomed warmly and then shown to our beach front room which was steps from the sea front and couldn't have been better located. There is a book in the room which clearly explains everything that you need to know and should you have any questions the reception, guest relations and mini bar shop staff are all incredibly helpful. We went all inclusive, it doesn't include everything but does clearly identify what is not included and in case you aren't sure the staff take every effort to ensure you understand what charges are additional. Breakfast is in the main restaurant and has a huge variety of food on offer, curries, fresh fruit, eggs / omelette station, pancakes, full english, variety of breads and pastries and much more. There are plenty of sun beds around both the pool and by the beach and fresh towels are available daily from the beach hut. Lunch is served in the 3 restaurants on the beach - there is the beach BBQ, Mauritian food, noodle bar, japanese or you can just order a salad or panini and chips - there is something for everyone. Dinner options are huge, yes you have to book the restaurants up at the mini bar shop and the new week starts on Sunday but it really isn't a hardship. You just need to be flexible, decide which restaurants you would like to try and then see when they are available. It is a bit of a strange system but plenty of people have mentioned it on trip adviser so shouldn't be a surprise! We emailed before we arrived and the hotel kindly booked our first week up in advance. We ate in all the restaurants, they were all fab and offered a huge variety. Our favourite was Madame Ming, we ate in here 3 times but all were good. Lime - supplement but lovely for a special occasion. Beach BBQ - delicious freshly cooked BBQ food with salads etc O - French food Riviera - Supplement - quiet location but lovely food Madame Ming - Asian (loved the Thai curry!) Bistrot - Burgers etc Italian - pizza / pasta Kot Nau - local food Mozaik - main buffet restaurant - huge selection for everyone The bars in the evening were relaxed and fun. The beach bar could get busy around 5pm so there was a bit of a wait for drinks but really not a problem given the location, if you are that keen on a drink go to one of the other bars. The mini bar in the room was filled on arrival and then you could either go to the mini bar shop and collect any additional drinks / snacks or if you were in your room they would deliver it to you. The sea was lovely and warm and the beach is a great location. You can walk around the coast and visit the other beaches. Take jelly shoes with you because there are sea urchins - these can also be borrowed from the hotel for your stay. Half the beach front was fine to swim in without the shoes. The water is very shallow going out for quite some way and if you are a keen snorkeller there isn't much on this beach but a 10 minute walk to the public beach there is more going on. We used the hotel taxi on a couple of days and they were really helpful and more like tour guides - well worth hiring one of them for the day to take you where you would like to go and there is a significant cost saving doing this too :-) A huge thank you to all the staff, particularly the following people for making our stay such an enjoyable experience: Vimi - housekeeping, Ragu - Lime, Nirmal - Madame Ming, Leo - Riviera & Sunny in the pool bar. All the staff were friendly and helpful, I am baffled by some of the negative comments on trip adviser, all I can say is a please and thank you go a long way! We wouldn't hesitate in recommending this hotel it was a great 4 star, with some little tweaks it could be 5 star. We will absolutely be back.
"Brilliant family holiday"
We travelled with our 3 children age 9,8,5 in October half term. Hotel was very busy and while all reviews re finding sun beds etc very true this really didn't bother us. The all inclusive option was great value and food was excellent, particularly in the buffet. We had a few niggles and referred them to management who were very quick to come back to us. We used the tennis courts, played all the games on the beach (beach tennis, tabletennis, droughts, chess), tried the spa (excellent!), and also paid for a couple of trips out on speed boats bought through the men on the beach. The staff were all so helpful and friendly. It's not a place for a quiet getaway for a couple but if you are travelling with children and looking for a safe, friendly environment with loads to do then it's great.
