We stayed here on a China Spree layover. Our king room was nicely appointed with attractive, somewhat vintage-style "Chinese Modern" details. The bedding and pillows were comfortable. There are some scratches and dings here and there, but the only real negative comment is about a bit of a black mold issue in the bathroom. The hotel's restaurant is quite good.
"A Decent Hotel in the Middle of Beijingl"
First of all, make sure you don't tell the taxi to take you to The Lake View Hotel, but to Lake View Hotel. My mistake, and it took me to the other side of Beijing, near University of Beijing and Tsinghua University (and it looked pretty nice, actually better than Lake View). But for convenience, Lake View was better. Very roomy room, bathroom with both a shower and a tub (didn't use the latter, but it was a nice touch). Nice walking distance to the lake, well stocked minibar, plenty of necessities stocked in the bathroom (though the free water provided was bit modest). Comfortable bed, good reading light. Excellent restaurants, serving food specifically prepared to be healthy (well worth it in Beijing).
We decided on Beijing for our honeymoon back in June 2013. ( review has taken a while as we since had a baby - made in China too) This was a lovely hotel very comfortable bed and very good location as taxi was cheap to go anywhere. The limited English didn't stop us as we used our phones to help translate. What an adventure. I would love to return perhaps when the baby can handle a long haul flight. Improvements on breakfast would be good and to make it cheaper to eat at the hotel. Outside of the hotel it's very cheap to eat but rip off to eat at the hotel. Excellent Tv channels as I remember enjoying evening in watching movies.
"Great option for a luxurious stay!"
Radegast Lakeview has well designed rooms and a good location. Its located right opposite the Longtan park where we went for serene evening walks. They have a restaurant that customized and delivered some delicious vegetarian dishes.. something that came as a huge relief for us! Its not near a metro station. But we had booked our sightseeing tours already... it was not too much of a disadvantage for us. The views from the higher floors are impressive and this is a really well known hotel easy to locate.
"Avoid this hotel, Terrible"
Utterly ridiculous. No one speaks English at all. Front desk staff actually run and hide when they see you coming. No help with baggage coming or going. They could not retrieve voice messages for us, and phone did not dial out of hotel in our room. While waiting for call in lobby, concierge actually got so confused he handed me the phone when his girlfriend called. Had to go downstairs to request room service menu. It's like a Monty Python skit trying to order anything. Then got called and told to bring the menu back' They do not have 5 restaurants that is a lie. Only one that Westerners can use. We tried to go to only other restaurant in hotel. They walked us out, no English and no Menu translations so sorry. Buffet in cafeteria style restaurant is set price for dinner, we decide to try,get bill, it's way more expensive. I point out error, they say nope it's right. I ask why, after much discussion amongst staff, young waiter comes over and tells us (it's because it's Friday ) Paid for club room access, Mother inlaw decides to go have a cup of tea while I'm out. Staff refuse her entry, escort her back to elevators. Hugely embarrassing for her. I go to front desk and enquire why they saw fit to remove an elderly lady who had her keycard and was entitled to be there. Nope can't explain. They have what they call a lounge, it's not. Decide to have a coffee and read for a bit. Cost for one flat white $10.00 Aussie dollars. The hotel lobby is clean, the rooms and restaurant are most definitely not. The view is nice, but you have to pay for it, and it's not worth staying here for. No one greets you, and staff in lobby seem to be patrolling for invaders. Even though you need a keycard to use elevators. All up it was a terrible stay, this is not a good hotel. Find somewhere more pleasant to stay. And I'm aware that this is a foreign country and to expect they speak your language is asking a lot, but they state they are a 5 star hotel for international travellers. Don't say it if you can't deliver! Also must say its not near anything so a bad place to set up base for tourists. AVOID
