"As you would expect from a Ritz except ---"
This hotel is well located. You can walk to a lot of restaurants and sites. The staff is friendly and well trained. the hotel was recently renovated - consequently the rooms very nice. It is "almost" a luxury hotel. The only drawback to this hotel is that it is located over the underground train. Every time a train went by, you could feel the vibration - day and night.
I really wanted to like this hotel because I am quite impressed with the Ritz-Carlton business model. In all honesty, I understand that my expectations are higher for a place such as this then, let's say, another more budget chain. So without running the risk of suggesting this isn't a lovely hotel I want you to understand that I am reviewing it in context to what they consider strong customer service. The best things about this place are the genuinely friendly reception staff; the rooms are amazing and spacious (I would suggest we did not get one of the higher-end rooms yet it was more high-end and well-appointed then most places would have for their best suites - incredible.); and although we did not get a chance to try the spa and food service areas, they looked wonderful. I was a little disappointed though by some of the finer service details - like lack of luggage handling support and inability to make change for Euros in order to provide well deserved tips for the lovely staff (no attempt to try - just a no). It ended up not being an issue because no one was available to help us so early in the AM anyway. There was also an issue with their credit machine and I was charged multiple times for deposits that no one could see in their system yet showed up on my credit card as multiple holds. I was more concerned about this than they were obviously and it ended up not being an issue but I would have appreciated someone giving me a support I could contact should it turned out to be a problem once I left and returned home. BUT, in saying all that, I recognize they are minor issues within a beautiful hotel that is well located in the city and I would consider returning again if given the chance. Our tour company Tauck was kind enough to pick this lovely place for us and I give them a shout-out for their exceptional care and consideration picking this hotel.
"Not deserving of the name..."
The hotel just doesn’t make it as a top tier hotel. The staff (except for guys outside the front door who were great) are cordial but no outgoing or friendly. The rooms are large, but exceptionally poorly lit. The hotel is excessively noisy as a result of underground subways. The park outside is also often noisy. Room service is iffy. I was there 5 days and some days I got soap and water, some days not. Some days I got turn-down service, and some days not. Food was expensive relative to nice options nearby. The Marriott or Four Seasons are far better properties and have their act together.
"Good location, all town's facility around, good staff"
I'm used to come frequently to Budapest for leisure and business. This time was leisure. I spent 2 days with my wife, one night in that hôtel; I'm used to appreciate this level of luxury when travelling ... very kind attentive staff to guest's requests, nice and large rooms. Despite one incident occured into the night (noisy neighbours having a party, doors slams ... i didn't ask reception desk to take action against this noise as i was sick trying to sleep ... next time if such incident occurs don't hesitate and call reception manager !) I recommand every one being in Budapest to stay in this hotel. Tramway lines and buses are about 5 minutes walk ... you're in downtown ! good location !
"Everything one expects of a 5 star hotel"
Exceptional in all ways. Location, room, service & food. Staff were incredibly attentive and passionate about sharing their enthusiasm for the beautiful city of Budapest. One suggestion: It's understandable that guests like to hit routine tourist highlights; but for those who like off-the-beaten track local highlights, a list of non-touristy hot-spots would be helpful for the concierge to proactively offer. Quite by chance, we found what turned out to be a trip highlight: an organ/choir concert at nearby St. Michael's Church on Sat. evening. Overall, a perfect place to call home in Budapest.
