"A refresh away from a 5 star "
This is a proper hotel in my opinion. You pull up and are greeted by the bell man who is ready to help with your bags. Valet politely and efficiently will park the car. This was a big deal for me because I was in an extended size SUV. Job well done to them for finding a spot to park! The down side is the hotel is ready for a refresh. I think they are going to do this because the bar era looks like it has been updated. I would not hesitate to stay here again.
"Physically great; service not so good"
The good thing about this hotel is that, physically, it is quite nice. The lobby is beautiful, the rooms are reasonably spacious, clean and respectably appointed. The plumbing and hvac systems worked well. The gym is fine. Service, though, left something to be desired. Instructions on how and where to park the care were not volunteered and were confusing when provided. Morning coffee in the lobby, which was supposed to be free, was simply not available. Perhaps this was all just bad luck, but at the best hotels, there is quality control to make sure things work consistently.
"Where's the luxury '''"
Flew in from Ireland on my way home to Cleveland Ohio. The hotel is under 6 miles from airport which made getting to and from hotel a short fifteen minute ride. The hotel was perfectly located for sightseeing, shopping, restaurants, bars and public transportation. The lobby moderately decorated the room was spacious with a comfortable bed. As other guest has said there is a noisy furnace system in the room that goes off every 10 minutes or so, if your a light sleeper expect no sleep. Outlets are not strategically placed. My girlfriend had a built in receptacle on the nightstand on her side of the bed. The closest receptacle for me was near the sofa or the tv stand both unacceptable. There was no safe and our mini fridge did not come stocked. Overall this was a pricey, noisy, no amenities room. Would I recommend no
"Don't worry about those bad reviews, it's fine."
This was my first trip to Meridien Cambridge and I was hesitant based on some poor reviews I read. It's fine, yes overpriced $400+ is ridiculous but it's the going rate so don't blame Meridien for economics. Great staff, clean room, slept well on a business trip..., its fine. Sure it's not a typical Meridien, I've stayed at many Meridien Resorts, but this isn't a resort it's a nice clean hotel in a very overpriced neighborhood. If you're going on business it's probably paid for. If you're going on vacation don't go to Boston spend the $400 at La Costa or something :)
"Convenient location but expensive. "
This was our second time visiting the Meridien. It is very conveniently situated near MIT. It has the feel of a business rather than a leisure hotel. Hotel rates in Cambridge are expensive and you will pay 5 Star prices for 4 Star facilities and furnishings. This in my opinion is the case with the Meridien. Our room had a slightly dated feel to it. It was a double room but housekeeping seemed to think it was only single occupancy. We stayed three nights but each day one bottle of water, one robe and one lot of toiletries was left out. In fact on our second day the shower gel was not replaced at all. I always expect a shower cap but I have noticed that very few American hotels provide one. Luckily I had remembered to bring my own. Small details like this matter especially when the daily rate is so expensive for tourists. On a final note the barman who found my phone under a seat in the bar and went to the bother of finding out my name and room number so that he could return it to me deserves a special mention. I'm only sorry I didn't get his name. No doubt we will stay in the Meridien again because it is convenient for visiting family but I hope they look after the small things like the toiletries and please, please, reduce those rates.
