We spent part of our honeymoon at this amazing Starwood property. I am a Platinum Member and felt the hotel staff went above and beyond my expectations. The food was delicious and the drinks were unique. We rented one of their private villas with our own private pool and it was spectacular. If I ever return to Koh Samui, I would definitely return to this property.
"Extremely Zenned out"
Le Meridien is designed for guests relaxation, We visited in March for ten days and it was fabulous. We did not get bitten even once from mossies!! The beach was warm clear and turquiose color, not very deep but everyone still jumped in everyday. We had a pool villa and it was excellent, best night sleeps ever. The location was beautiful , quiet and secluded , after every morning breakfast ,we went for long walks on the beach. But there is still a variety on restaurants and massages, and family marts walking distance nearby. In the evening the hotel offered free shuttle service to Lamai, where there are heaps of bars restaurants and shops. The staff are five star at the Le Meridien, I want to mention thankyou to Lek for his patience and assistance. Also to the cleaning staff, and the wonderful gardeners that keep the gardens looking magical. The staff are there to assist you in any request, just simply ask. Excellent team.
We stayed here for just over a week and had a wonderful time. The staff were excellent and the pool area was lovely. While I wasn't a big fan of the shower and toilet for our room being outdoors - it was too hot, and this only increased the prospect of getting bitten by mosquitoes - the room itself was very pleasant and the air con worked fine. I have however removed a star for the plunge pool in our room, which was really unappealing. We had a dead bird in it one day, and while the hotel promptly removed it at our request, the water wasn't replaced, so I definitely didn't want to go in after that! We ate in the restaurant a couple of times: the food was tasty but a little pricey. Then again, it is a 5 star resort, so not something you can really complain about. If you want cheaper options, then you only need to leave the hotel and you'll find an abundance of restaurants in nearby towns and on the same road as the hotel. We were never disappointed when we ate out. Overall, this is a great hotel, and the staff should be very proud of the service they deliver: in many respects it is only because of their smiles and hard work that make this hotel so special. I would say that this is ideal for couples and (small) families, but not large groups. A large group of what appeared to be work colleagues on a trip arrived during our stay and were quite loud which irked a few people who were trying to enjoy the peace and tranquility by the pool. Would we return' Yes, without a doubt. But we wouldn't bother with the plunge pool suite.
"Positive: Ocean pool villa is brilliant. Negative: Too many mosquitos/no mosquito nets"
We spent most of our time in our own private villa during the day which is fantastic. Loads of space, sizeable private pool, view of the blue ocean and elegantly decorated. It feels really special. I'm surprised that, bearing in mind so many negative reviews left by guests of mosquitos, steps haven't been taken to put mosquito nets around each bed in the hotel. Despite loads of mosquito repellent we were still bitten each night and the hotel loses one star for not having mosquito nets. We stayed in other hotels around Thailand with less mosquitos but each of these offered nets. The pool and beach area left me feeling a little underwhelmed too, which is why I rate this three out of five.
This is a good property. Location is about 10 mins drive away from Chaweng and about 5-10 min walk from Lamai. The showers and toilets are outdoors which may have been a nice touch in the past but considering the heat, it wasn't comfortable to shower or use the bathroom. I also think that this let mosquitoes in more easily.... Our A/C didn't go below 20 degC, quite a problem when it was extremely hot and humid outside. We wanted to come back and rest in the cool room but it didn't feel all that comfortable. We called the front desk and they tried to help but said that 20 degC is the lowest the A/C could go. It is a beach front property - beach water was incredibly warm but very dirty. We saw glass bottles, metal, wood in the ocean. Pool was an infinity pool. Good food at the restaurant. Good property, but not 5 stars.
