"New Year in Nice"
Our 4th New Year running in Nice but our first stay in the Meridien. Excellent staff, excellent room with small balcony overlooking the Promenade des Anglais and excellent breakfast with view over the sea. One black mark however - the first hotel we have stayed in France, in the last decade, where there were no UK, TV channels. Plenty of other countries - USA, Russia Today, Middle East etc., but no BBC or SKY, not even France 24 in English.
"A few details would make it better"
Booked via SPG points the hotel is in need of a few key little attentions. The room was big, with sea view and as such it was great...but cleanliness was approximative at best...a shame. Frigo bar in the room was empty (4* hotel'!), although down in the hall the staff was ready till late to give you anything required. Location is very good and makes any walk to the centre a nice 5 minutes stroll.
Its' location is perfect. You can walk to just about anywhere. Two people that I found very helpful were Pascal and Olivier. They were at the front desk. Both of them always had a pleasant smile. There was one woman(I did not get here name) what a puss. I asked her a question and she seemed to be bothered. If you don't want to be helpful then don't work at the front desk. The breakfast was very good. We also had tea and enjoyed that very much. The only drawback is that they don't provide water or anywhere in the hotel to purchase water. Unless, you order it from room service. The grouchy desk clerk told me to go outside and purchase it from a local store. We stayed in November and the room was quite warm and there wasn't any way to regulate the temp. We tried keeping the door open but the wind was just too strong and kept shutting the door. We commented to one of the tour guides about how warm the bus was and also the room and she and the bus driver made fun of us. One of our companions spoke French and she heard them making fun of the Americans because we thought it was warm and they were bundled up as if it was freezing. The temperature was in the high 60's and low 70's. The hotel has seen better days. But the view makes up for it. I loved waking up and looking out to the sea. If I were to return to Nice I would stay at the Le Meridien again.
"Seaside great, hotel seen the best days"
Location and seaside hotel rooms great, also breakfast was good and service as well. Negatives were the wear and tear was very visible in the hotel, air condition did not work at winter time which meant rooms were hot after sunny days. Traffic distrunbing in seaside rooms at nights. But I would still go another time to hotel.
"Not a bad stay"
The biggest problem was probably the lack of air conditioning. It may have been winter but the room warmed up something amazing and it was frustrating that the hotel doesn't operate air conditioning simply because it's winter. Air con should be available when it's required and it was certainly required during the stay in mid December. Aside from that the hotel was a lot better than some reviews would have had me believe. In particular I find it odd that so many people are offended by there being a McDonalds outside the building. That's a good thing! Room: Some wear and tear but ok even if it wasn't shiny and new. Room was reasonably spacious for France and had a lovely view out to the sea. We requested a jug for boiling water but be aware that tea and coffee is not provided free of charge so if you like to enjoy a hot drink, pack your own teabags. Bathroom: I liked the fact that there was a bathtub and was pleasantly surprised to see that instead of the standard plain Le Meridien toiletries that usually accompany these hotels, there were Malin and Goetz for Le Meridien products. Platinum benefits: We had a room upgrade I was advised at the front desk but I think that was the sea view rather than a substantively better room as the room was quite basic. Breakfast was provided free of charge but no other real benefits. This is in contrast with platinum benefits in Asia which tend to be a lot more generous. Breakfast: Nice dining area with views out to the sea. Variety of food was substandard for international hotels but the quality was sufficient. Front desk/concierge service: This was excellent. Staff were very willing to help and pull out maps and the team was very good about trying to get me restaurant reservations in Monaco. Much appreciated. Spa: Situated in the hotel but run independently the quality of my massage was very, very good. Reasonably priced for a luxury international hotel spa but a tad expensive given that the hotel is not fancy and the spa itself is basic. However I considered it good value due to the skill of the therapist. While there have been some deficiencies noted, given the value proposition, I thought the hotel was good. Room rate was surprisingly economical. The taxi from the airport cost 35 euros with the meter on. I generally found uber to be better value in Nice. Took the airport bus for 6 euros for my return flight and it was very easy to use - the stop is right outside the hotel and there were very few other people on the bus so plenty of room for my luggage.
