"Adequate but Tired"
This hotel is a category 5 SPG Property, but is significantly below the standards of other Le Meridien Hotels. If you are booking SPG points, or are expecting typical SPG Category 5, this hotel misses the mark. This hotel is not worth the points for this category. The staff is well trained and polite, and very helpful.. The room that we had was an upgrade and was just average. The most significant issue we had was that the air conditioning for the hotel had been turned off (reason- it is winter). So the room was hot and there was no way to cool it down. The staff was sympathetic but unable to correct the issue as they claimed the whole building's AC had been turned off. The halls and the reception areas, the restaurant were all cooler than the room we were given. The rooms are in need up updating, the paint was chipped and scratched. It is tired and has seen better days. The chair in the room was in bad shape and "well sat out". Apparently the notion of a king size bed is new, as there are no rooms with king or queen size beds. Our room was two twin beds pushed together.. It is not possible to take the elevator from the lobby on the 1st floor to the street without getting a key to activate the button, which means you have to find someone with a key., The alternative is to take bags down the escalator.
"Great Location: McDonalds on The Main Level'"
Must say that I was a little turned off with a McDonalds as the welcome wagon, only to learn the hotel starts on the second floor. No real welcome at the front door before entering to a long escalator. The front desk was not in the least friendly. Asked if the room overlooked the water only to be told 'no' it is a courtyard but you can upgrade for 150Euros, which I didn't welcome for our stay which was already a good penny. Their definition of a courtyard was overlooking a roof(') maybe with mechanicals I assume - not a walk-out to a courtyard to sit and enjoy. The room was a disappointment and the price meant it costs a fair bit to stay in Nice. Our pals stayed at the Royal down the street with a slightly smaller room, overlooking the Med at 125Euros less a night. I will say the breakfast at Le Meridian was nice and the rooftop pool and bar overlooking that glorious water was truly lovely. We had four little glasses of wine and 2 beers - over 100 Euros which meant it was an expensive view and they wanted you in and out in a hurry because of the small space to accommodate the next big spender. Across the road is a park with the sad memorial of the July tragedy which takes your breath away. Lots of dining opportunities close by - but nothing to knock your socks off. Nice is more for the grand residents, in my opinion, than tourists. The Promenade is wonderful, but the beach is rocky. Think our time would have been better spent in a smaller town close by.
we had a wonderful 2 night stay here. the hotel is in a great location. close to old town, restaurants, shops and beach. our room was amazing, with doors that opened to a patio directly facing the Mediterranean. there is just the street and the beach between you and the sea here. the room was clean, larger than most European hotel rooms and comfortable. staff were nice. breakfast buffet at the restaurant was adequate (although the scrambled eggs were soupy). we went to the wonderful rooftop bar multiple times. good drinks. good service. amazing view!
"Great hotel for a visit to Nice"
Our two week trip ended perfectly with two nights in Nice at Le Meridien Nice. Located on the promenade, the hotel was modern and comfortable with a nice lounge and restaurant on the main floor with a lovely rooftop restaurant overlooking the promenade and the Mediterranean Sea. The staff was courteous, and the rooms were just right. Within walking distance of the old village section of Nice, and many shops and restaurants, but a bit of a hike to catch the inexpensive/fun bus to Monaco/Monte Carlo; an easy 35 Euro cab ride to the airport. Great way to say goodbye to France !
"A great place to stay in Nice "
We had an excellent stay ; our room on the top floor with a breathtaking view of the Mediterranee and hills around Nice from the terrace. The terrace is equipped with long deck chairs allowing you to enjoy the view and sea breeze. The rooms are aging but beds are very comfortable. Cleanliness is spotless. The breakfast buffet is offering a large selection of fresh products. Eggs are a la minute. Coffee is excellent. The high rate goes to the service staff; very pleasant and efficient. I would like to congratulate Martini, a waitress who is attentive to the needs of her customers and has always nice words for everyone. A true service mind person. I would stay with great pleasure should I be back to Nice.
