"Nice Beach Hotel"
The Le Meridien is located at a beautiful segregated beach, the water is very clear and it is flat for quite a distance, one of the nicest beaches I have ever seen. The pool in the hotel is gigantic , very large size of several olympic pools connected. Hotel gym is very well equipped and there are frequently some sport classes. Rooms are large , recently renovated and most of them (if not all) offer beach / pool view from the balconies. Service at the reception and in all restaurants is very good. The offer also a shuttle bus to Patong one way 100 baht , which is nice to go in the city, back you can take a taxi , it is safe So basically perfect . What I did not like are the very high cost in the restaurants and bars, basically they use the location which gives you no other option than to drink and eat in the hotel if you don´t want to go into the city. Quality of food is just reasonable in most restaurants , incl. breakfast, but as said clearly overpriced, One exception is the Pizzeria which has European price level and the quality is excellent, so if you like Pizza that´s the place to eat. I do recommend the hotel, but I think the hotel should have food prices on a similar level as other Le Meridien hotels, I stayed in several but here food Quality / price ratio was not adequate. On the other hand the location could not be better if you want to have some relaxing days at a beach, and the excellent service also helps to enjoy the time in Phuket
"A lovely resort in Phuket"
I have stayed here twice and each time was a delight. Le Meridien though sold to the ever encroaching Marriott empire still retains its French charm. It has its own private beach 15 minutes from all the hustle and bustle of the nearby town. There are several pools and lots of activities at the hotel. The beach is lovely though the waves are often huge, so don't go too far into the warm ocean. The rooms are just right with delightful showers, I didn't have a view this time, but many of my friends had a pool view. My only complaint, the very high prices for comfort food around the pool area at daytime. At night the Italian restaurant had a delightful special and the food and service were excellent.
"Great hotel but be aware on the beach"
Just spending the last few hours relaxing before leaving today and reflecting on the hotel. This is a fantastic hotel and the level of service, pool and standard of room is excellent. But there are a couple of reason why I could not give 5 First, the good stuff. We arrived at the hotel at approx 1:30 pm, we enquired about early check in, but this was not possible and informed us that the room would be available at 3:00 pm. They then gave us a voucher for a complimentary drink in the bar whilst we waited. We went back to reception at 3:00 pm and unfortunately the room was not still available, but it was made ready 5 minutes later and they also gave us free WiFi as an apology. The room, an Ocean View room was great with good bathroom facilities (note no bath) and a good balcony. Door had a child lock. Pools and beach are very good, but there are some strong waves with a rip that can be difficult for small children or non swimmers. I am 6ft and 110kg and the currents were difficult to resist. There is a lifeguard on the beach, but please read my comments in the "not so good" part below. Location is far enough away from Paton to feel secluded but close enough to visit daily (again read the "not so good" part below) Last day here and given a late check out until 2 pm at no extra charge. Not so good Beach As above, there are strong currents which can cause difficulties. The was a lifeguard on duty, but on our first full day at the hotel, we were on the beach and a lady got into difficulties after being struck by a large wave. She was waving her arms, and a person near to her went to her aid, which took about 1 minute. This happened in front of the lifeguard station but the lifeguard did not move. So please look after yourself. Wifi To be charged for WiFi access in the room is not acceptable for a hotel that is a 5 star resort. We stayed in Bangkok before Phuket in a lower standard hotel where wifi in the room was free Transport During our stay we went into Patong a couple of time. When we went to the desk we were always shown to a taxi. According to reviews, there is a shuttle bus that can be used which is significantly cheaper, but we were never told of this Food We only ate in one restaurant during the stay for breakfast every day and one evening meal. This was the pakarang Breakfast was average, sometimes the food was not very warm. Evening meal. The food was only average and quite bland. Had better meals for less price in Patong
The private beach is a bonus - nobody continually trying to sell you something. During our visit the waves were quite large and there is a bit of a rip current so not really a swimming beach in my opinion. However the hotel has huge pools so they never get crowded. It does suffer from "towels on sun loungers before breakfast" so can sometimes be a challenge to find a decent spot to sit (it seemed to be quieter after lunch). There was a good selection on offer at breakfast and, although we were told that the hotel was full, we never experienced the chaos that often accompanies the breakfast buffet! There are loads of activities on offer and the air conditioned library was a real sanctuary from the heat. Bit disappointed that wifi was not free in the rooms (only in the public areas) as would have thought this should be standard in a hotel of this quality. The shuttle bus into Patong was also useful. All in all a great place to chill out for a week or so.
