"Nice Resort Hotel in the Shanghai Resort Area"
The hotel is clearly build for functions and convention or for families wanted to spend weekend in a resort, especially to visit the nearby Happy Valley Themepark and the next door Playa Maya waterpark as well as the She Shan golf club. The hotel is some distance away from the Shanghai CBD and not so convenient for business, except for meetings and convention. Quiet, nice setting and comfortable room. Overall it is good but certainly there is room for further improvement for a decade old resort. Suggest to add more international selection for breakfast, like the Le Meridien in Nanjing Road and it will be nice to have a executives lounge, again, like the Le Meridian Nanjing Road.
"Dirty, dirty, dirty"
I had to stay at the hotel for a business trip but otherwise would have moved immediately. Upon arrival on 26 October (at 11pm) the receptionist promised my room would have a double bed and promised my colleagues room would not be a corner unit. My colleague, who speaks fluent mandarin made this request to the receptionist (because she was a mandarin speaker), and who confirmed she could accommodate our request. The receptionist ended up putting us both in the exact room we said we didn't want. Strike 1. Upon checking into my room I found a huge hairball in the shower from the previous guest, and a smear of red (which could have been ketchup or blood) along the wall just alongside the television. Strike 2 and 3. I ordered room service that night and used a mug for coffee the next morning. None (but the chinaware) were removed the next day by housekeeping. In fact, they were still there when I left to check out. Strike 4. My colleague had bees (plural) and a huge spider in her room, so my room wasn't the only unfortunately dirty chamber. Strike 5. The hotel is an hour outside of Shanghai and I would suppose relies on guests coming to play golf at the nearby course. If this is any reason to completely disregard a guests comfort and basic rights of having (paying for!) a clean living space, then I suppose my disgust is unwarranted. But I doubt this to be the case. I was shocked that the "Le Meridien / SPG" brand would allow such low-brow service in any of their properties and I would highly advise them to pay some much needed attention to this property before it damages their reputation any further. As you will see, this is my first negative review. It needed to be made. Gross, gross, gross.
"Adequate, nice setting, cleanliness needs improving"
Having visited China many times now on business over 15 years, the five star hotel experience has changed and improved dramatically. I stayed in this hotel when it first opened as one of the initial guests. At the time it was fresh and new. Unfortunately now it has become a bit dated, however, was overall quite agreeable for the required stay. The setting is quite pretty and there seems to be many activities for families using it for a nature style vacation on the weekends. What I liked; - room size is good - room view and surrounding forest/park is very nice - conference facilities are good - staff is friendly and tries hard What needs improvement; - the cleanliness and attention to detail in cleaning the room is very poor (see photos) - the decor could use an interior design update - the shower amenities are not that nice (gel, conditioner, shampoo) It should be noted that the staff and management was also very accommodating with a change in my plans (early departure required) and arranging a late checkout. That was helpful and appreciated.
"Nice hotel but needs improvement for the money paid"
Le Meridian is a luxury brand and for an expensive hotel brand this hotel was a bit disappointing. Though the room and the hotel itself was clean and spacious, it didn't offer top-notch service and some of the amenities were low quality. It claims to be a resort but doesn't offer the best services that a resort should. It's very expensive for the quality provided.
"Worst ever I've ever stayed"
First, I did not stay in any hotels under SPG brand, this is my first time stayed in SPG property. BUT, you sucks and be the worst. As this is a children-friendly hotel, when we arrived 2 p.m. there are many people waiting for check-in, and we were told the room preparation time would be at least 3 p.m. A man, standing besides the front desk, may be manger, we asked him, was your check-in efficiency always so slow, he had no replied and looked like in sleepy, are you kidding me' what are you doing standing for on behalf of the first impression given to customer' Second, the staff at check-in desk, their work efficiency are really slow, almost use 10 mins for every customer, usually in IHG, Marriott, the check-in process was within 5 mins, and what's more, they charged every customer for CNY 3000 DEPOSIT, yes, you did not believe, right' and when i asked why they charged so much, compared to other mid-ranged hotels, usually 500 CNY equivalent deposit, super ridiculous, right' Third, when at check-in and check-out, when i am asking for questions, the customer next, jumped the queue and interrupted me, the staff did nothing but served us at same time, this must be the most basic service, EVERYONE NEED TO QUEUE, but you know this is in china, no rules, no courtesy. As for the good part, the buffet dinner offered a wide range of choice, and the staff there always pay attention to help, well done. As for the overall consideration, I would NEVER recommend such a hotel, with no efficiency, with no basic rules, with no any service.
