Loved the hotel, the room was excellent, food was very good and the staff could not have been more helpful, especially Mario Farrugia who handled an issue with a neighbouring room, with empathy and went above and beyond any expectation to resolve the matter. Rooms at the front have a lovely sea view, especially on the 8th floor. The pool and spa were an unexpected bonus. Breakfast buffet had everything you could want to eat and the restaurant and bar food was good too and not as expensive as I had expected.
This well-appointed hotel has great sea views. The staff were very friendly and gave the impression they enjoyed every guest visit. The breakfast staff were welcoming and offered a seating arrangement. The quality and selection was as you would expect from a quality hotel.
"Top position and upgraded room"
We were lucky to get an upgrading to our room and were very pleased with that. Our sizeable room on the 7th floor had a view towards the back which is ok, probably more quiet but no ocean. Bathroom was of good size and included a triangular sit down bath tub. You can cook coffee/tea and the mini-bar prices are rather low. Staff service level was good, we got immediate help to fix a broken shower nozzle and they arranged our cab to the airport. Breakfast was plentiful including an omelette station. Some of components were not of the highest quality, e.g. hard local bread or juice with too much water in it, but all in all it was good. We spent a couple of hours on the roof, taking the sun and having a freezing swim (the winds were still rather cool and it affected the water).
"Four day stay"
We stay at Le Meridien for four days. The staying was great, great staff, friendly, everyday house-keeping, 24h reception, external services assured (taxi, trips, etc.), internal services at the top level (spa, indoor and outdoor pool), luggage deposit until your leave the island. E.g. We checked-out at 12 but they kept our luggage till 19:30 when the cab arrived and we were allowed to use all hotel facilities in the meantime. Access is based on card, no strangers, full discretion, silence and the elevators have a modern system, you never wait too much. The hotel has an amazing view of Balluta Bay, the location is perfect for travelling around the island. The bus station is right near the hotel, the same for taxis.
"Good location, charming staff"
Right on the water front and a with plenty of options for hotels at this time of year this offered great value and a location that was ideal for exploring the island from. Staff are charming - in fact you have to say the Maltese are naturally a very charming people. Worth getting a room on the front otherwise you look at a large car park. yes some areas are a bit dated though the spa does look amazing and I am sorry I didn't have a chance to use it. It is a shame that the hotel bar/bistro is rather dull in its set up and feels more airport lounge - pls do it up. That said you don't need to use it as there are plenty of great restaurants and bars on the doorstep. The Villa just beneath the hotel with its wide veranda overlooking the bay is great. If it is warm the Electro lobster is great for sitting outside - (not sure inside has the same feel). Vallette is simple by bus from here or jump a taxi to Sliema for the short ferry hop across. The Lascaris War Rooms are so fascinating and wondering the tiny streets and impressive squares of Valletta gives you a real sense of this country and the people who gave so much to support the British during WWII. Do try and dine at Panorama. Back at the hotel the roof top pool was not yet set up fully for the season but it is a great size and plenty of terrace space for sun loungers. Sunset must be great from here.
