"Beautiful Honeymoon Stop Over"
My husband and I stayed at the Le Meridien Tahiti for one night on a layover from Tahiti to Bora Bora. We mentioned that we were on our honeymoon and they brought champagne to our room, very thoughtful. Very nice stopover on your way to the other islands, the sunset can't be beat!
"Great Stop-Over in Tahiti!"
We were looking for a nice mid-range, stop-over hotel in Tahiti at either end of a two week trip in the Society Islands. Le Meridien seemed to fit the bill based on the Trip Advisor reviews, and we were not disappointed! I wouldn't necessarily make this a destination hotel in its own right -- we enjoyed all of our other hotels & the other islands more -- but it was perfectly nice for our needs. We stayed in a "Deluxe Ocean View" room for our first two nights, and in an "Overwater Bungalow" for our final night in Tahiti. Both rooms were clean, comfortable, and spacious, with modern amenities. The ocean-view room was a pleasant place to recover from the long flight from the US, and the bungalow room was the perfect romantic finale to our vacation. We opened all the wooden window slats, and listened to the rain fall and the fish splish-splash in the lagoon below us. Our bungalow was at the very end of the walk, so we had a gorgeous unimpeded view of the water, and of Tahiti in one direction and Moorea in the other. If you have the budget, I recommend a bungalow! The hotel grounds are lovely. We didn't use the pool, but we enjoyed the small beach and lagoon, and the amazing sunsets. We had an excellent meal at Le Carre, the restaurant down by the beach. We also took advantage of the hotel shuttle which took us into Papeete for the Market, and to the Musee de Tahiti et des Isles (cheaper than a taxi cab). The hotel staff were nice, but always seemed slightly harried. Each night we stayed, there were loud musical performances in the bar area adjacent to the lobby, and lots of guests/visitors milling around, which made it difficult to communicate with them, but we got what we needed.
"Over-promise and under-deliver for honeymoners"
We had several emails with the hotel staff before arriving and because we had notified them that we are on our honeymoon and we will be arriving just before the new year's countdown, the hotel staff offered us dinner boxes within our room with a queen size bed. When we arrived, not only did they not provide us with dinner boxes, but they gave us a room with 2 single beds. We were very disappointed as this is our honeymoon. Also, the phone within our room was completely not functional. We were offered a room at the very end of the alley, so we had to walk to the front desk every time we wanted to request or ask for something (no bath towels within the room). We stayed here again when we returned from our stay at Sofitel Moorea (much better experience) and this time we were provided with a much better room with a view. The sunset was incredible and the cafe down near the pool was half decent.
"Do not stay here! Worst experience of our honeymoon!"
The name and the Le Carre Restaurant are the only nice things about this place. The staff were incredibly rude. As an SPG member I was extremely disappointed in the level of service. Whilst checking in we were advised that half of the hotel was full of honeymooners and that they can't do anything for us (our last hotel gave us complimentary cocktails - something small but thoughtful). Beds were itchy. No toiletries provided in the bathroom other than body wash, shampoo and conditioner. The pool only goes to 1.1m deep. Not much shade around the pool. Good view of the sunset. Ocean view rooms have a tiny view of the ocean. Do not stay on the overwater bungalows either - the view and location is much better at other resorts on Moorea.
"Very nice place...great staff."
The staff was very friendly at check in, we were welcomed with a cool drink and a cool cloth. The bellman was accommodating. We just need a place to stay from afternoon till our flight left at midnight. Lunch was nice but the service in the pool café left a little to be desired. We had a drink by the beautiful pool later in the day and the server was polite, and quick. Nice beach and comfortable chase lounges by the water. The hotel was nice for what we needed it for (a place to stay before our flight), I'm not sure I'd love it for a week.
