"Breakaway in Shanghai "
Hi had 4 available days and decided to visit the business center of China - Shanghai. I have to say that city was much above my expectations but the Pudong airport way bellow my expectations. Coming to the hotel I have to say that location was just great - right on Nanjing pedestrian Road. With 25-30 yuan you are with taxi almost everywhere it matters. The room was at 38th floor which offers a great view of the city. Rooms was big enough but bathroom small and the sink was practically in the room. Gym was good (not great) and the pool long enough (although from hotel pictures you might think is an Olympic size one (but is not - just half). We decided not to take breakfast as the price was ridiculously high and you have at least 3 -4 options to eat well and enough write in front of the hotel almost 5-6 times cheaper. They offered the option to have a "discounted" price for breakfast which still makes it 2-3 times more expensive than outside hotel. But you have to decide when you check-in time, no later - felt like they tried to push me and didn't liked it. Another unpleasant situation was with the payment. When we arrived, on top of the price of the room (which is normal to be blocked from credit card) they ask for a deposit - which is also OK just this time the amount was ridiculously high- 1000 yuan/day ( so for 4 days they want to block me more than 1000 USD) which I refused to allow as was not mentioned in the booking website. Eventually they blocked 1600 instead of 4000... At check-out i thought they will use that blocked amount plus whatever was on top but they actually cancelled the entire amount blocked (more than 1000 USD) which is going to comeback in my account in few days and charge me the amount of my stay so practically for 4 days stay my credit card will be without almost 12000 yuan. Imagine if you do not have enough on your credit card or if you plan to shop around ... no way as lot of money were blocked - very unprofessional from my point of view. The transfer to airport is also charged 4 times more than you would pay if you take a normal taxi - which by the way are more than OK. Overall I would say that big YES for location and view and big NO for how they treat you financially. I am sure I will not recommend this hotel to my friends as there are many 5 stars hotels in that area to be chosen. In case you still opt for this one make sure you pay attention on how they charge you. You might face as well difficulties with hotel staff English skills. Be sure you double check their understanding before assuming they got your message/question. Overall I do not like when someone put his hands in my pocket uninvited and that was the feeling at this hotel - you cannot add rules which are mot in the booking website just because these are hotel policies... We'll see next time if this is the practice everywhere or they just do it because of the brand name. Enjoy!
"Perfect location, wonderful sightseeing and excellent service"
Location is perfect, in the pedestrian area and close to the nicest shopping area. Sightseeing is winderful especially from club lounge on the top (better the view Bund oriented). Room are well organized, with everything you can need, but sometimes not all works perfectly. Breakfast has a wide selection of foods.
"Beautiful property, well located in the heat of Shanghai"
If your looking for a luxury hotel easyly accessible from Pudong airport: no doubt you should try the Royal Meridien. Friendly personel, beautiful rooms with a view and easy access to Nanjing pedestrian street. A must in Shanghai.
"Comfortable oasis within heart of shopping district"
I have stayed in over 10 plus hotels in Shanghai, and would say that this hotel is the 10/10 for its location within the shopping district / walking street of Shanghai and proximity to the Bund. The Good: + Located right at doorstep and the heart of the shopping pedestrian street + Convenient location and access to the huge variety of restaurants + 10-min walking district to the famous Bund to catch the scenic views of Pudong and the experience the great restaurants along the "touristy" stretch + Rooms are well-maintained and modern (although the hotel has been operating for many years) + Rooms offer either a scenic city view (which i stayed in) or the beautiful Pudong / Lujiazhui view (which i got to see from the lift lobby) + Well-designed functional room with blackout switches and easily accessible trash bins at sink area (one gripe i have with other recent hotel stays where there ia no trashbin at the sink area) The Bad: - Room size is a little small compared to the other 5-star hotels that I have stayed in
"Good location but start to see tear and wear"
This is my second stay at this hotel. My first stay was 4 years ago. I like this hotel due to the location. It is above People Square Metro station. Near People's Park. At the end of Nanjing Pedestrian Road. With fantastic view of the bund and buildings at Pudong side. Room is ok size but no bath tube. Lounge is good and serving quite decent selection of food. However, at this stay, I notice quite aome number of black mark in bath room which I think due to not so proper cleaning. Another negative points, as Platinum member they didn't assigned me roon at the club floor also. I am fine with the deluxe room as i was told the junior suite doesn't really have a view as it is at the lower floor. Hence, other than lounge access, i don't see much benefit between Platinum and Gold member which I was 4 years ago. I really hope this just a one time off thing.
