Im not as OCD as some people so you will find my reviews very easy going. The hotel was perfect. I have stayed in many places in Beijing and this was by far the best. Loved it. There were two Italian ladies working there who were the friendliest on the planet. My wife came with this trip and she walked down to Wangfujing street and did shopping all on her own. It was just great......Yea ok and the breakfast was Western....its the only meal I miss when in China.
"Over elaborate French sophistication in design but great service"
Nicely located hotel with great service. The architecture and decor is trying to replicate old French 18th century living but obviously not to everyone's taste. It does convey the grandiose impression with a lot of 'gold' around but for those who prefer the modern, functional hotel, this is the wrong address. The rooms are very spacious and beds comfortable. But the decor is not for everyone.. The staff are excellent, especially some expat staff - Chiara from Guest Relations and Dejana from Sales who provide very attentive service and great tips about Beijing. The breakfast is fine, but a bit too monotonous - you know exactly what to expect everyday. Something I find strange in China is that they seem to have only mellon and dragon fruit everywhere you go! Also tried the Portuguese restaurant which was a bit of a disappointment. The dishes were very average and more canteen like food. The Chinese restaurant was OK but nothing to write home about. I also attended an event with 250 travel agents and must say that they put on the best show. Good buffet food and great service!
"Stunning hotel in the heart of Beijing!"
This is a spectacular hotel, with a stunning lobby and large luxurious bedrooms. We didn't eat at the hotel in the evening, but breakfasts had extensive and wide ranging buffet options. The location is in easy walking distance of numerous eateries, a shopping district and if you walk a little further, Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City itself. There's a nearby Tube station for easy access around the city or further afield, or indeed to and from the airport. The concierge desk will be happy to book you on to various minibus tours or private car trips to the Great Wall and the Ming Tombs etc. A private car and driver only cost about £80 for an eight hour day! Staff were courteous, attentive and tried to help, and although there is a language barrier in some instances, with a little patience we always got there in the end. I was also a little annoyed that they refused to accept a MasterCard Credit card to settle the bill. It wasn't 'declined' - they just wouldn't use it and they offered no reason. Other shops and restaurants in Beijing ( before and after this incident ) were perfectly happy and achieved perfectly normal transactions with the same card. It's fortunate we had alternative means of paying. Overall however, a great hotel and a well located base for exploring Beijing and its surrounds.
