My second stay at this hotel, loved everything about it, it's clean, good service, great location, close to Alexanderplatz but not where the crowd is' Till definitely be back and will recommend to anyone who asls
"Very good stay"
4 of us took two rooms at this hotel during a long weekend break to Berlin. It is ideally situated near a tram and bus stop, ideal for getting around Berlin. Whilst the rooms are a little small, they are well kept and have everything you need. The hotel bar does a great happy hour, and all the staff are friendly and attentive. I would suggest a room up high (5th or 6th floor) and towards the back. Bonus is three lifts so you dont have to wait long.
"Perfect hotel for the centre of Berlin"
Very decent hotel in the old East Berlin, within walking distance of Alexanderplatz (10 mins), all the must-sees and on the main route for trams etc. Immaculately clean, staff very helpful and beautifully designed within what was the old Police HQ. Our room was an upgrade and was almost two rooms knocked into one with excellent facilities and stylish internal decoration, massive bed, wardrobe, 2 settees, writing desk etc. Bed extremely good for a hotel, pillows a bit thin. Room comfortably warm, not stuffy. Very quiet. Similar in standard to a Radisson Blu. Concierge was very helpful, being first timers to Berlin we had no clue but she booked us on the hop on hop off sight seeing bus which goes direct from Alexanderplatz and armed us with maps. Never ate in the hotel but enjoyed the bar for a night cap. Prices what you would expect, never felt ripped off. No English tea bags, but there's no milk anyway. Coffee whitener provided and plenty of coffee. Nice vending machine on our floor that dispensed bottles of beer at 2.80 euros. Usual fridge, safe, hairdryer, free Wi-Fi. Reception staff very professional, helpful and considerate. Held our luggage for us on check out as we had an evening flight. Housekeeping staff knocking at 8am to clean was a bit early! And they never took the dirty mugs away but left clean ones! Not exactly a drama tho. Very happy here, would definitely recommend and stay again.
"Almost 4 stars but... "
The hotel is really good, the room was cozy (we booking a standard room) at a great price. The staff is really nice and is a 10mn walk from Alexander Platz, with a tram stop just around the corner. We didn't try the breakfast but the bar was always quite busy so it should be good. The mattresses were a bit on the soft side for our taste and so we're the pillows. Extremely quiet, not always usual for such a big hotel. I just don't give it four stars because our welcome note from the manager still referred to the previous guest in our room and the satisfaction survey was also answered by that same guest and left on the table - that's says a little bit about the tidiness of the hotel. In terms of cleaningness it was also great! Would recommend and stay again.
"Third visit...a little disappointing. "
The first time we visited, having booked a standard room, we were upgraded to a Deluxe Room for free. One of the best hotel rooms we have ever stayed in! 2009. The following year, we stayed in our 'booked' standard room. Still good. Reception, breakfast and housekeeping staff all great. Wind forward to 2016...paid for Deluxe Room and on arrival, "upgraded" to "Junior Suite". Upgrade in size, yes, but quality...not so sure. I would have preferred the 'Deluxe'. Anyway, one man's suite etc., etc... Reception, breakfast and most of all, housekeeping staff...all fantastic, however...omg...the bar staff!! Booked in for 4 nights and 1st night in bar, waited ages to get served despite only a handful of customers. We weren't going to bother a second time, but anyway... Tonight waited and waited then commented to bar staff...no apology just some kind of justification for serving others who arrived later than me. Decided to leave and when I said "too late" to staff, was greeted with an "ok" translated as couldn't care less. Still love Berlin hugely, but very much out of love with Leonardo Royal. Shame.
