"Bliss! A real treat. "
We stayed here for two nights and wondered why we had never done so before (have known it for years). This is a remarkable hotel with a simply wonderful friendly feel to it tucked away right on the edge of the piste and a moment from the town in a very quiet location. The rooms have been recently refurbished and are modern and well appointed (some are quite small consistent with most hotels in the Alps) with very good bathrooms and lovely views. The hotel staff are cheerful and very helpful and M & Mme Ruchti are very much in evidence from dawn to dusk checking that everything runs immaculately. There is a small plunge type spa/ pool which we did not use (no time!) and very well arranged bootrooms/lockers etc for skiers. Access to the slopes and main lifts is very easy (main piste to Chaudanne is 20 metres away) and the shops and town centre are an easy 3minute stroll (to the escalator by the Tourist Office). This is not so much a hotel as like staying in the best private chalet: tea after skiing in the bar is a real treat with lots of delicious cakes and hot chocolate sitting by a roaring fire, and a delightfully convivial and friendly atmosphere (all the guests when we stayed were very friendly and happy to swap tales about the days skiing exploits) and late afternoon tea eases seamlessly into huge and delicious early evening cocktails in the bar before a bath and change for dinner. Dinner was delicious. We chose from the a la carte menu but there are other options. Everything is beautifully prepared and served with great style and again there is a lovely friendly atmosphere in the dining room. I can see why people have been coming here regularly for years and I am very much looking forward to my next visit!
"Expensive for what it is."
Although obviously an excellent hotel, doesn't provide any sort of value for money. The food is good but not excellent by any means and much better than the bandage elsewhere. Staff generally very good. We stayed in three different hotels in the valley this season, this was by far the most expensive, and failed to provide anything that the others didn't. Good access to pistes, and close to good après spots
"They've Got Elegance!"
We had a great weeks luxury skiing in Meribel and the comfort and elegance of Le Grand Couer was no small part of that! Communication prior to arriving was very efficient thanks to the efforts of Sebastien and Lucile - they were able to organise a taxi transfer from Moutiers. No need for Euros either as it can be added to your account. There was some confusion about where the Taxi driver was waiting bit a quick call to the hotel and David expertly resolved it. They can also provide Ski passes and the preferred Ski hire shop will deliver your Ski equipment (you obviously have to visit for fit) to your Ski locker in the hotel - very impressive - no Ski carrying required just the few steps from the Ski lockers to the snow covered ground outside and after a little bit of horizontal propulsion you're on the piste!. We were very pleased with our mountain facing room, king sized bed, plenty of storage space recently renovated bathroom with bath and separate shower. Breakfast has everything you can think of - and more - it was like a banquet! I particularly enjoyed the fresh fruit salad - every bit of fruit perfectly ripe and the mini pastries. They even have marmalade! The bar was very comfortable, perfect cocktails and lovely cheese straw/biscuits! Great pianist too! No need for bills, you enjoy your drinks then head out and it just gets added to your account. Madame Ruchti (I presumed) was often visible greeting and overseeing in the reception area. The staff are well groomed unfailing helpful and courteous, the other guests were all very civilised too. Everything was perfect and effortless, I just can't imagine staying anywhere else in Meribel!
"Not cheap but worth it"
This is a very comfortable, well maintained hotel with great amenities. The service is good and not ostentatious. It's the little touches like remembering your room number that help it stand out. The food was excellent too. The location is good and is ski in and ski out and it is wonderful to return to the spa in the evenings. If I had to change anything it would be putting a screen around the shower, enforcing the "no telephones in the dining room" and not charging for the presumed complimentary nibbles with the drinks from the bar( they were very tasty though)
This four star ski hotel provides five star (even more) services and a perfect combination of elegance, comfort and ambiance. While the ski-in ski-out location offers easy access to all slopes in Meribel, the proximity to the town center provides great flexibility to go out for shopping, dining or clubbing. The 2 star Michelin restaurant is an ideal place to taste distinguished dishes of the international and local cuisine while enjoying the stunning view of the white mountains. The professional and friendly attitude of the staff members make your stay memorable. All members of the hotel team do their very best to satisfy the needs and expectations of the guests. Without doubt Hotel Le Grand Coeur and Spa offers great value for money and an exceptional ski experience in Meribel.
