"JUST PERFECT IN EVERY WAY! MY VERY FAVORITE PROPERTY!"
We just returned from a 3 night stay at The Lodge at Torrey Pines. This is probably my very favorite property in the entire U.S. Everything about this property is above and beyond from the wonderful valet guys who learn your name in the first hour and provide fabulous service every time, to the check-in staff, the service in the restaurants along with fantastic food and what a setting, even in the lovely Grill outside by the golf course. This property is staffed to perfection, even the housekeeping is just perfect. We could not have asked for more during our stay. The setting cannot be beat with such a beautiful view. The rooms are cozy and a great size. The bedding is new and the beds are beyond comfortable! We played golf and this is my favorite course to play anywhere, including Pebble Beach. Only complaint is the pace of play, but that is not within our control...easily a 5 hour round. Do not hesitate to stay here. We have been several times and will be back again in a few months. Very worthy of 5 stars and beyond....love, love it here!
Situated on the Torrey Pines golf courses The Lodge at Torrey Pines offers spectacular craftsman architecture. The rooms are large most with fireplaces. Note, the golf courses are between the hotel and the beach. The best ocean view rooms are from the fifth floor. Onsite restaurants are indoor/outdoor with superb food and service. Downtown La Jolla is 15 minutes away. Service from valet to housekeeping is exceptional. One of the finest coastal California resorts.
"On par with Spainish Bay and Pebble, too bad the course experience not as good"
This lodge is as romantic and comfortable and well-appointed as those in Pebble Beach. Comparable to Pinehurst but half step below Whistling Straits. Service top notch at every turn. Warning here is that the courses are public, run by the city, and our round took 5.5 hours, the slowest round we have ever played and we have played around the world. Service once you leave the Lodge is perfunctory. No reason for it not to be since the two course experience 90,000 rounds every year. Our cadies say playmis ALWAYS slow.
"Superb service, nice location"
I am not too free with 5 stars but this place is up there. The overarching item is the level of service these folks provide. From the kilted car valet to the door greeter, the desk help, the concierge, nothing is too much trouble for these people. They are pleasant and professional and on-it. The hotel itself is indeed lodge-style and can be a fairly long walk from reception to your room, part of the walk down an exterior (and in Jan, quite cool) hallway. The rooms are nice although the regular rooms are nothing exceptional. We upgraded to a suite mid-stay and it was lovely. Spacious, nicely appointed, overlooking the golf course - recommended if your wallet and their availability coincide. The one soft spot was the cuisine. The "grille" is a menu full of fancy looking food that is really quite bland and dull. The main restaurant is somewhat better, but not great in my view (and was closed for upgrades for half of our stay). Nice property; would return.
"Excellent Service, Great Choice"
Great lodge feel, love the location on the ocean. Stayed at this hotel for the last 4 years for a business conference and then added some days this year to golf and enjoy Torrey Pines State Park next door. Dining options limited on site but The Grill offers very good food with great service (though a bit pricey). Downtown La Jolla is a short 10-20 min drive away (depending on traffic). We used the hotel car several times and the drivers were nice and accommodating. Uber was always available and arrived w/in 5-7 minutes when the hotel car was busy. Beds are comfortable and rooms are large. The only thing we would improve is the room temperature control. We like it cool to sleep and the thermostat did not seem to allow you to really adjust the temp by more then a couple of degrees one way or the other from the base temp. We left the patio door open the last night but if you want to sleep in outside noise might be an issue if you are a light sleeper.
