"Fabulous service !"
We really enjoyed our stay. The service was of impeccable standard and seeing the smiling faces of the staff really made our time wonderful. I must specifically thank Antonio from the Concierge desk for making it such a special stay for us and our friends!
My experience and that of my family is the best, service, cleanliness, food, I love it and I really like to travel, we know what we are saying we recommend this hotel to everyone I have never slept in a more comfortable bed while staying at a hotel.
"Horrible service throughout"
Check in was fast and friendly. Resort is beautiful. Dinner at Mama Della's was very good and reasonably good value given location. Breakfast buffet was also quite nice. Our room was nice, and quite large, but it would have been nice if more of the space were in the living space rather than the bathroom. Beds were awesome. Service was so bad, from beginning to end, that I would never stay here again at any price. 5 registered guests, 4 towels. Booked room for 5, but had to re-request a rollaway for 5th person 1st evening. Room not serviced one day at all until we notified desk (at about 6 pm). They tout ability to charge all over Universal to your room. Assume this will not work. It was down all day on April 19th. When I complained about being told inability to charge in parks, we were told their system had actually been off line since the evening before. So you had all night to work on it, didn't, and couldn't be troubled to send your guests texts, messages on room phone, or a note under the door explaining that you can't take credit cards today' During this time, we attempted to eat at Sal's (their grad and go restaurant) and the cashier flat out LIED to us about the use of room charge sending me back to the room for another form of payment. With a few exceptions (check in, Mama Della's) staff were pleasant enough, but rarely outright friendly. Unfortunately, most of what they were communicating were their apologies for service failure after service failure. Either we just had really bad luck, or the manager of this hotel has absolutely no clue what he or she is doing. Staff were clearly under impression that there was no expectation that they do their jobs correctly, or show pride in their work, treat guests in a welcoming fashion. This was our experience over and over again. I would never consider staying at this or any other Universal Orlando Resort hotel again based on absolutely experience during this visit. If I had known in advance just how non-enjoyable this experience would be, I would literally not have booked it if the room was free. It most assuredly was not... If you need a comfy bed to crash and want the front of the line access of Universal Express, this may be a decent choice for you if the price is right. If you want or need ANYTHING else beyond that, then expect shrugs and apologies.
We enjoyed our stay at the Portofino which has spacious rooms and a friendly staff. The grounds are well maintained, the restaurant offerings are very good and convenience to and from Universal/Islands of Adventure/Citywalk is excellent via boat. I would highly recommend this hotel.
"Nice but expensive and could use improvement "
Had a nice time for a five night visit with my husband and two teens. We opted for club level for the convenience of having access to round the clock soft drinks and bottled water, continental breakfast, afternoon snacks, happy hour daily and evening dessert buffet. We did it take advantage of these daily because we spent a lot of time at the parks but it was a nice option to have available. Michael goes out of his way to welcome guests in the club. Housekeeping left something to be desired. For $577 per night a family of four should not have to ration soap at the end of the day. Yes, on the last night housekeeping did not leave any soap for us when making up the room. The bathroom door does not have a lock on it and the rooms have a very odd feature of having an archway from the bathroom which looks out into the bedroom area. The archway has shutters but our rooms shutter closure was broken thereby forcing the shutters permanently in an open position. I fixed it myself using a rubber band but for $577/night the darn closure should be gold plated and WORK. Ate at Mamas and Bice. Both were great. Paul, server at Bice, was outstanding. Anna's singing on the terrace on Tuesday night was incredible. Universal should learn something from Disneys use of the magic band. We were presented with 4 room keys, 2 club room keys, 4 park admission cards, and 4 express pass cards upon check in. Now be sure that you, your spouse and your two teens don't misplace any of the 16 aforementioned cards during your vacation or you will have yourself a headache. To keep yourselves organized they SELL lanyards for containing your cards for about $10 each. For what they charge they should at least make these complimentary like they did during my previous visit 8 years ago.
