We visited the resort for our first trip to the Canary Islands in March 2017 and we had huge expectations before the trip after seeing the pictures of the resort. We were not dissapointed. The hotel is fantastic with the entry and lobby really setting the tone for the rest of the stay. The pool areas are the hotels best features - inviting and brilliant, with something for everyone. Quieter areas for adults, inbetween areas for teens and a great kids pool area with slides for the smallest ones. Also, several of the pools have a beach like feel as they have used small grain like stones to mimick sand around the pools. The lazy river is also a highlight. We had fullboard in our stay and the variety and quality of the food is very good. Not as great as some asian resorts we have stayed in, but in a European standard it is great. We had kids with us and we found something interesting for them to eat besides pizza and burgers most nights. The childrens activites are also very good if you have kids that like such things. The driving school on Sundays with tricylces is worth mentioning. Kids disco every night was also popular. The only negative points we had were the beds. We stayed in a double familyroom in with a pull out sofa-bed and instead of one doublebed, they had two single beds together. With small kids that move around during the night we found that they often dropped into the crack between the beds. Also we had ants in our room that kept coming back even though the staff were very helpful in spraying our room with ant repellent when we were out. Could also had a larger fridge as we would have like to kept some extra things in there. All in all a fantastic hotel that we can highly reccomend to others.
"Unusual decor "
Lovely hotel, good selection of buffet food and plenty of pools. However not being very tall couldn't reach hanging rail in wardrobe or hooks outside bathroom without standing on upturned waste paper bin! Full length mirror would also be useful.
"one of the best holidays to remember"
We visited this hotel for the first time in 2011 when it was just 2 years old and that was an absolute treat! Returned to the same hotel 3 times afterwards and still that page is not closed. So many good things to say about the hotel and it's facilities as well as the staff. Never failed our expectations. Location of the hotel is perfect - 15 min walk to the sand dunes and the sandy beach - amazing mixture of nudists - mind when with kids - and anyone who is actually wearing a swimsuit. Unfortunately the beach is not user friendly but a nice walk and a deep in the ocean. The hotel is very spacious and always busy but the same time you hardly feel with that many people around you. It offers a number of swimming pools, gym, nice walking paths around and within the hotel area. The location is next to the bus station which allows you to jump on the bus and go for local towns visiting. Many shops are around the hotel as well as the restaurant. The opposite Baobab Lopesan there is a sister hotel Costa Meloneras Resort & Spa Lopesan Hotel with an amazing spa to offer. Just 35 Euro pp for 4 hrs - fab. The rooms are very clean. Food is various and delicious. We just love being there. Highly recommend.
"A large sprawling African themed complex popular with families"
The outside architecture of the hotel is very different and a bit out of place with the surrounding buildings. It’s at the top of an incline of a drive, set back from the centre of the resort, large, dominate and sprawling. It’s close to a reasonable super market, shopping centres, bus station were most of the island can be visited from by bus and there are a selection of restaurants within walking distance. The hotel has parking and there is very little on the road parking. The reception operates a central queuing system which can still take a time to get to the front of the queue especially if they are checking in a lot of people. The reception area smells strongly of incense, and care is needed with the cane chairs as they have a lose cane back just waiting to stab you. Some of the furnishings also look worn The hotel room for our stay was sizable, the decor dark and it was poorly lit. The walls which surround the bathroom had black on them not sure if this was damp or part of the dark room decor. The garden view of the room was disappointing the main view from the balcony was a large palm tree which stopped the light and warmth getting in to the room. You could also see a baby elephant was an attraction for children and many photos were taken of a child sitting on the back of it. The grounds are very pleasant, clean, neat and well kept, there are many pools some tepid and others very cold. Around the popular pools sun beds are at a premium. Some of the rooms are a long way from the restaurants. On the whole the food was good but as the hotel began to get fuller the restaurants struggled. One night they started to run out of food, the serving plates were not being replenished and it was difficult to find enough food to fill your plate. The two restaurants system did not work well and closing one restaurant which was more suited for couples for an hour during the evening meal time service for staff to cope with the popularity of it was ineffectual. Before the restaurant was due to reopen a long queue had formed and due to demand for food the serving dishes soon became empty. Restaurant staff were very busy and on a few occasions you had to wait a long time for a drinks order to be taken. The other restaurant was more for families. The tables are covered with a brown plastic type mat which was wiped over on occasion and very seldom do you see staff put a new clean one on the tables not even when they are being set ready for the next meal time. At least with a white linen table cloth you can see if it’s clean or not.
This is the best hotel I have ever stayed in. Position is perfect, the staff all so happy and helpful, food is great and all is very clean. Just a short walk to shops and the beach. I couldn't fault this hotel. Lots of pools and sun beds plentiful. We particularly liked the reception team Alberto' and Petra.
