I'll start with the negatives! I stayed here last week with a friend so we had 2 rooms. I requested a quiet room and I had 3117 and he had 3118. Considering I was the one who made the request it would have been sensible to have given me 3118 which had no neighbours on the other side and I would not have had to listen to the baby next door in 3116 crying early morning and late at night! Other than that the room was fine. All the negatives reviewers have said are accurate, you have to pay for Wi-fi and the safe, the hangers are too high in the wardrobe, no English channels on the TV other than news (very tedious) there are 2 single beds (not good for couples) and finally it is very dark. The responses from the hotel are all very pacifying, however, to overcome the darkness why not simply put one mirror at the window/balcony end of the bedroom'' It's a simple thing! I found the cleaning to be minimal, a very quick in and out. The bed linen had a rip in the sheet and was never made properly ie. straightened out or tucked in and the duvet cover holes in it. The other areas of the hotel, reception/entrance, ridiculously large, I mean vast like a warehouse, also we noticed the glass frontage has huge cracks in it. Can't say I had the awed impression others have had, even in the bus drawing up outside it looked like it hadn't been finished with the wooden posts/poles all over it like scaffolding. The bars and restaurants and in fact the bedrooms have pretty poor quality furniture and the animals are laughable, come on people... plastic animals... you are too easily impressed! Our first night for dinner we discovered that the Baobab opens at 6 and shuts at 7 so we had to queue at the Marula at 7.15. I hated it in there. It was like a canteen, far too many people and like a cattle stampede topped with sitting too close to each other on wooden chairs. Vile. The next few nights we got to the Baobab at 6.45 and made sure we sat in the more comfortable areas with cushioned seating, it was much better. The food is impressive, lots of it and a good choice, some of the serving spoons get very sticky and I got a general feel that it was just a bit messy. There were kids but not a huge amount at this time of year. The bars...well we only went in the Richard Burton as the Dodori was cold as it is outdoors, the bar by Reception is like a wind tunnel as it is in the warehouse as I called it. The pool bar serves sandwiches etc in plastic/card boxes, bit like an airliner or McDonalds. The entertainment... we went the first two nights to the Richard Burton Bar and they had the Rickaris EVERY night. The first night was ok, we danced and enjoyed the music. The 2nd night was ok then it just got ridiculous, why have the same band every night singing the same songs!!'' I cannot comment on the other entertainment in the other bars but it seemed to be on very early 8pm and was too darned cold. We went down the front to a couple of bars but on the last night we went to the Costa Lopesan opposite and they had a great rock band so it saved the day. Ok now some positives, the rooms are a good size with good facilities, comfortable mattresses, balcony was great and I'm missing my view. We had a nice view of the sea and afternoon sun which was great and we had no rooms above us so my request was met in part. The pools and gardens are lovely, I found the two larger pools were heated so swam in those only. The lazy river looks great but was cold. Sun loungers in abundance and we didn't have to get up at 7 to reserve them. We didn't go down to them till 11 and always found some in the sun. I would say I did see some people reserve them and their towels were not removed so the hotel need to keep on top of it about 9.30-10am. I did actually witness an argument at the Round Pool - a group of people had gathered. Crazy! Once one starts everyone else follows suit and it's all a bit aggressive and childish in my opinion. I had to complain about the staff entering my room. I was sat on my balcony one day and heard my door open and close, I walked in off the balcony to find a man in my room!! I then got a towel to put around me and heard him leave so went after him in the corridor to ask him what he was doing. He said he was checking the mini-bar. I felt very angry about this and complained that he should not enter my room at all if I was there or not. I think the cleaning lady should check the minibar as part of her job in my room. I also had a day where I got back to my room to find my balcony door shut (I'd left it open) and yet my room had not been cleaned so someone had been in then but why I don't know! The hotel did give me a small bottle of red wine and phoned me to apologise but be warned they do this so use your DO NOT DISTURB when you are in your room, my friend said he heard a little knock and was halfway to his door when this man walked in. I did like the fact we got a chocolate each night in our rooms and they do ask if you need a change of towels then as well. I don't think that they need to change the towels so often to be honest, not very eco friendly. ALL the staff in ALL areas are very friendly and very professional. I am not sure I would go back to this hotel. It was just a bit impersonal because of the size and some things were just not quite right but it is a very good 4* hotel and with some tweaks could be 5*. I will be back to Melonaras but will maybe try a true 5*.
From the moment we arrived we felt privileged to be here the check in was smooth and very professional, free upgraded to a suite amazing huge and luxurious the staff was very attentive checking at least twice a day the hotel is well kept and gardens very impressive,it took some time to get the layout of the hotel because of its size we say the layout of the hotel is quite confusing it took most of the holiday to get used to it Food was varied and good quality can't say we got bored as you normally do by the end of your stay the swimming pools are well kept and impressive busy or quiet areas it's your choice not problems for sun beds The thing that stood out was the amount of children it seemed to be full of children so if it's a family holiday you are looking for this is ideal with good facilities for children The resort itself is very impressive upmarket, top shops and restaurants a good safe feel to this place if it's kebab and pubs you want from a holiday then this resort is not for you not a takeaway in sight ,the hotel seem to work off half board basis so if you got children cost could mount up but I would say for a hotel the prices is not over the top So to sum up Hotel excellent Staff happy and attentive Food great with good choice Ps the buildings and drinking areas are semi open plan so found sitting for a night time drink can be chilly so jumpers it is or even a coat

"WoW ! What a Hotel it has everything"
I visited the hotel (More like a village) January 2017. The approach to the hotel is most impressive. At the reception check-in we were met with complimentary champagne or a fruit juice. Actual check in was a breeze, very quick and easy, the reception staff was very helpful and explained everything you would need to enjoy your break with supportive hand-outs and a map to show you to your room and facilities of the hotel. The bedroom was fantastic, Spotlessley clean and tidy and was kept that way during our stay. even the corridors where cleaned and polished everyday. There wasn't any tea/coffee making facilities in the room but the hotel will provide you a Kettel if you ask at reception. I see people moaning about no English TV Stations ' all I can say is get real your on holiday ! The TV does have BBC News Cnn bloomberg and a few other type channels (Around CH48ish) There are great pools 2 of which are heated. The Sunbeds are of good quality and the hotel even provide the towels. The entertainment is on everynight in the various bars. The prices are what you expect. The Service is Second to none. I am already looking to book for next year.
"Not 5 star service "
The hotel is impressive, on arrival it has the wow factor with grand entrance and a Jurassic park size in proportion. Kids will love it and adults will be impressed. The welcome was fine, and we booked all the reasonable upgrades from room, to transfers to make sure we had the right facilities and comfort. Things seemed to unravel on the delivery of service, the internet in the rooms did not work at all for the duration of the stay, and considering they want to charge €5 per day for this and it was highlighted as a key feature, in today's world that's just not good enough for a hotel that's meant to be of this standard, and the internet in the communal areas is very slow and poor although they did say they are conducting an upgrade, that didn't help us to stay in touch in the run up to Christmas. Secondly both myself and my wife fell severely ill with Nora virus, and the size of hotel is huge so could be any number of factors, but highlighted this with staff and said we would not want to spread this at the buffet, and could we possible order room service for 48 hours to isolate ourselves, and even though we are an half board and only requested the breakfast, they wanted to charge £5 euro per delivery and insisted we still came down to eat to avoid the charge and there was no other option. So no concern for other guests We also asked for two new drinking glasses as we had not had cleaners for the 3 days, and wanted to again make a €5 charge for two glasses. Bottles of drinking water to stay hydrated over the 3 days, charged for delivery for each as needed as cleaner could not replace as these came free with the room clean....nope extra. On the second day after several calls to our agent and Rep they delivered one meal for my wife on the third day of being ill, and the manager said he was not happy having to take time out of his day to deal with this and we should appreciate it that he's made the effort ......that's really 5*' Not even a how are you feeling today. On the forth day we finally got the strength to go out and the African theme that had been excellent so far took a turn for the worst , the young blonde entertainment troupe, painted their faces black and wore black gloves and stockings and Afro wigs to dance with the kids at the lunchtime disco in a 70s minstrel type tribute. Being of mixed race this was the final straw, thomson holidays should be ashamed that they condone this type of behaviour in general, let alone as a form of kids entertainment. We spent a lot if money on this hotel for service support and comfort, and it was lacking on a personal level. The staff in the restaurant, bars, and cleaning staff are excellent, they go the extra mile, the management seems not to be engaged in service at all to resolve any issues. If you can avoid getting ill, don't need any room service or support, and can cope with the nostalgia of mild 70s offensive entertainment, this place is excellent. And the resort outside the hotel is excellent, modern clean and scenic with lots to do
