"Good Mid Week Break"
Lovely, large spotlessly clean room done out in tartan. We stayed here Sun to Tues for a quick tour of city. Situated just off Royal Mile, handy for everything but nice and quiet as well. Beds extra comfy and slept like a log.
"Just ok. "
I had an early morning appointment so arrived the day before. I prebooked the car/valet service as I was traveling solo with my 14week old. Check in was effortless, however they had me on the ground floor which included stairs. So I had to have assistance with my baby&pram. My room was cold when I first got in so I turned on the heat and tried to settle my. Any after a 5 hour journey. 2 hours later the room had only gone up 1 degree. I noticed there was a space heater as well and had to have that full last to get the room to a decent temperature. There was no wifi access - I was at the very end of the building and was told just to use the lobby wifi. I moved the two twin beds together and discovered just under the edge was someone's full peeled off fake fingernail (yuck) there was a layer of dust all around the edging of the room, the toilet seat was not clean and the door to the bathroom had a spill going down in that had not been wiped off. I used my own blankets and changing mats when ever putting my baby down because I was put off by how I unclean everything seemed to be. There was only two available sockets in the room (the lamps sockets were different then regular uk) and one was taken up by the space heater, so I could charge my phone or do my hair... not very convenient. The furniture, decor and carpets were dated but the bathrooms had bees updated and looked very nice. The beds were uncomfortable, they bowed down in the middle so there was no support for back/hips. Staff was very nice and friendly. Location was great for getting to the U.S. Consulate, castle and local restaurants. The breakfast was really good, I had porridge with fruit and a cup of coffee, but not was not worth £25. And again a quick look around my table showed that they do not pay attention to detail when cleaning. The price of the room was really good but the breakfast is overpriced, valet services are costly, but too be expected. Hopefully the hotels next update will include efficiency heating, lamps that have integrated plugs/USB ports and a better trained cleaning staff.
Great room in a lovely hotel. Staff were very efficient and friendly. Well placed for seeing the Edinburgh attractions. Parking is expensive but alternatives are limited. Best getting the train as its only a 10 minute walk.
"Whistle Stop Tour of Edinburgh"
The hotel is ideally located for the Royal Mile and Holyrood Palace. The Edinburgh tour bus stop is only a few steps away from the hotel. The staff are friendly and helpful, we were able to book in early and they allocated two rooms close together. The interior looks a little jaded. The rooms are spacious and there is little noise from other rooms. On checking out the hotel were happy to store our bags whilst we did some last minute sightseeing. The concierge is very helpful and gave us some great advice on things to visit and which ghost tour to book.
Nice hotel, reasonable location, friendly staff. My only criticisms are that the dining room is very small so you had to wait for a table to become free for breakfast, and the lack of plug sockets in the bedroom; particularly near a mirror and light - not ideal when trying to do your hair!
