"Nice modern hotel with good facilities."
We stayed for two nights with breakfast. Generally good but with some very minor issues that could be improved for this price. Room was a bit dark, particularly over desk, no moisturiser in changing rooms. Good breakfast freshly prepared (disappointed no haggis). Good checkout 12 noon. Staff very helpful.
"Second trip even better than the first"
This is my second time here and this time stayed for 2 nights had a dinner on the first night and service and food was 5* mw and my boyfriend both had massages and I didn't want to leave the relaxation room I was so relaxed after ..... the pool facility's are exceptional and steam and sauna both very nice ...... definitely my first choice when staying in the beautiful city of Edinburgh ❤
"How hard is it serve tea and toast"
It was our second visit to this hotel and in twelve months it has not improved , the pool area is always out of the things they promise to provide such as towels bags for wet costumes , the breakfast where to begin it is so fraustrating multiple requests for tea also for toast and when it comes it is usually not done properly , elements of breakfast cold scrambled eggs very strange and not pleasant and always there is a manager parading about but I don't really know why because a less organised breakfast I have never had in a hotel , the best and most organised part of the hotel are the concierges always helpful and friendly
"Large triple room"
Macdonald Holyroood Hotel is a nice and convenient hotel. Our corner triple room was spacious and included good toiletries and a mirror that did not fog up! Our concierge, Jacob, was most helpful and offered to print out our boarding passes the evening before we were leaving. We asked him about a restaurant we were thinking of going to and he advised us that there were better ones around. Breakfast service was very slow and free WIFI was advertised but none in our tour group could get on it.
"Comfortable hotel but pricey given the service level"
The hotel is reasonably central and offers easy access to most parts of Edinburgh you may wish to see. We have stayed in macdonald hotels many times in the lake district, which was why we picked this one, we knew it was more expensive than most others in the area, but were quite content to pay the extra because of past experience with the macdonald group. We were allocated a room on the first floor adjacent the lifts and the function suite, which was great for most of the week, however,on our last night, there was a function on, and they left the function room doors open, which meant noise spilled constantly into the corridor. It sounded like people were in our room, quite literally. this went on until around 1.30am. we were not impressed. Breakfast service was great on the first day, but on all subsequent days, there was no black pudding, and given that the black pudding is the proud boast of this hotel group, I was most disappointed. there was also no brown bread on two mornings. these are minor issues, but when we had paid nearly £250 more than a hotel around the corner, we were disappointed that these details were not addressed. We will be giving the macdonald group a miss in future
