"Lovely hotel but watch the credit card charge"
A lovely hotel in a good location although a little bit off the beaten track and an uphill walk to Princes Street. We got the tram from the airport and got off at St Andrews Square and it was then a downhill trek across the North Bridge and then down the Royal Mile. More or less opposite the church that Zara Phillips got married, there's an alleyway at the side of Starbucks which takes you more or less to the front door of the hotel. There is a bus service but it has only a few stops and we used it once but felt it didn't really gain us anything. We didn't have to wait too long at check in and were given a lovely room on the 5th floor. It didn't have much of a view but it was well appointed and very comfy. Breakfast was included in our room rate and it was more than adequate and set us up for the day nicely. We ate in the Acanthus restaurant one night and used our Tastecard which enabled us to have one meal free and was a nice treat. The food was good although my husband's medium well done steak was almost blue! However, it was quickly replaced with a fresh one which was perfect. I would have definitely have given the hotel a 5 star rating except that they want to charge a £3 administration fee for using your credit card to settle your bill. I've never known this before from a high end hotel chain and found this to be disappointing. Such a shame because apart from this we had a very enjoyable time there.
"Two night break in Edinburgh"
This is an excellent hotel with very comfortable and reasonably large rooms/ The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful. Easy walk to many interesting sights and tour buses. Breakfasts of high quality and as much as one would want to eat. We shall certainly return
Just returned from a two night stay. This hotel was excellent as were the staff they made you feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble especially the consierge they were a credit to the hotel. The room was nice and spacious and tastefully decorated and very clean. Had a few drinks in the hotel bar which I thought were reasonably priced. The hotel is a bit of a walk to princess street but was good to do on a nice day. Will definitely return to this hotel
Recently stayed for one night found it to be a very nice nice hotel. On arrival we were greeted by a friendly hotel concierge and reception staff' We stayed in a classic king bedroom and found the bed large and very comfortable. Breakfast had plenty of choice food was excellent staff were friendly and very professional. We used the pool and sauna which was lovely shame there was no jacuzzi.
This is our second stay at this hotel we choose it because its in a great location for the Royal Mile and everything around its also within easy walking distance to Waverly Street Railway station. We stayed in a room on the fifth floor which had being refurbished, the bathroom had a great walk in shower which had great water pressure. The only problem we had was that the room was cold and the heating didn't work but reception quickly sent us a heater which was adequate. The breakfast are very good with plenty of choice either hot or cold. We had a meal in the restaurant which was very good but expensive there is lots of other eating place close with better value, the bar is also expensive but this is usual in hotels I guess.
