I've stayed here a lot over the years and am currently 3 weeks in to a 3 month stay. The rooms are spacious, clean and light with great panoramic windows, the gym and spa are a lovely bonus but what makes me come back is the friendly and helpful staff. In particular Shaida in reservations and Larissa in Food and Beverage. It's not nice being so far from home and family so friendliness and a bit of familiarity makes all the difference.
"Over priced. "
Arrived on Friday afternoon, easy location to find. There was a queue waiting to check in at reception, even though they had 3-4 members of staff just standing around smiling at people... only one lift worked, that broke down on the Saturday afternoon which left us having to get the stairs to level 7. The room wasn't cleaned properly, on the Saturday morning the cleaners just made the bed and didn't change the bed sheets'' The phones had dust on them. The breakfast was appalling, the cutlery wasn't even cleaned properly. The room was a bog standard could've got the same value at a premier inn. Won't be returning to the hotel. The only member of staff who was helpful was the porter boy!
"So much potential, needs a lift!!"
We are regulars in other Macdonald hotels that haven't disappointed (Linden, Marine, Roxburghe), but sadly this didn't live up to expectations or the hefty price tag. Met up with our daughters only to join a long queue on arrival, then there was no lift available for us with bags / throughout stay and air con kept going off after a couple of minutes. A hen party in the room opposite was unfortunate too (one of them was sick in the corridor). On the plus side we had a decent afternoon tea, bar staff were efficient and breakfast was fine (even when very busy). Location is certainly handy for railway station, trendy Northern Quarter and extensive shopping. The sting in the tail was £40 for two days in their car park!!
"Just a hotel"
Having stayed at this hotel numerous times, we normally have a great time, however, the service was very poor. We decided to try the Scottish Smokehouse restaurant inside the hotel, to be left waiting for half an hour, and not even been offered drinks. We obviously left. Also the spa treatments were great, but when we end to use the sauna facilities there is no one making sure that people are being respectful of the surroundings, so we had a family inside the sauna where people are relaxing, blasting music and taking pictures on their phones. Overall, not a great experience, I do not think we'll be staying here again. For the amount of money I spent at the hotel, we expected to be recognised as humans. Rooms nice and clean as always, but that was about as good as it got.
Very dissapointed with our room, first impressions were good, but on closer inspection there was a thick layer of dust on everything ,the coffee machine and coffee capsuals, desk, bedside tables. I also found some peculiar looking hairs on the bed which is compleatly unacceptable. The bathroom on the other hand was better ,although again I came across a number of hairs. The towels had black marks on which we did not use. I do not expect to pay nearly £180 for a room that has not been cleaned properly. Unacceptable!!
