"Lacking in majesty, but okay"
A friend found this place on booking.com; I checked it out and got pretty excited. The best location if you want to casually walk by Gaudi buildings, go shopping, go shopping and go shopping. The only complaint I read was about the swimming pool being tiny, but I went in winter so I thought, no problem. Oh boy. The location was fabulous and I'd say half the service was fine. They have really good people. They also have inept people. I have never had an experience where giving reception the booking.com confirmation and all our passports was not sufficient for them to find the reservation. We checked in for twenty minutes, which is bizarre in the age of computers and when we were first in line. And while most hotels now would personalize their service by getting your name right, they mixed up our names by combining the names of two guests, which made it a bit hard to sort out how to connect to the internet (which required the reservation name). My friend said the women who checked us in were trainees; that's perfectly fine if they were supervised. Well, they weren't. They were just left there asking so many unnecessary questions. Easily the worst check-in experience I had, and I've been bumped off my reservation by another hotel before! Even that was less unpleasant. For this reason, we did not book spa treatments. I just didn't want to put myself in the hands of possibly unskilled people. This may not be fair to the spa staff, but I could not understand how service at such a low level in reception could be acceptable to this hotel's management. Since we were a group of three we were placed in their residences building across the street. The frontage was just as gorgeous as the hotel but inside, the apartment was a throwback to the 90's. Old style interiors, and not in a good way. The kitchen was great (dishwasher!) and bathrooms were okay, but I have a long list of items that needed improvement. 1. Dusty couches and throw pillows (I have a dust allergy so maybe a regular person may not have been bothered by this); 2. Ugly view of the courtyard (but this type of view is normal and cannot be helped in this area; I realized this when I went to the top of La Pedrera); 3. The "Majestic Residences" manual in the room does not apply to Majestic Hotel guests who are placed in this building, so weird rules, like leaving your garbage in the hallway and being charged extra for bedroom slippers, do not apply; 4. They said they stocked our room with amenities for three persons but that was not true -- we had to ask to even up the supplies and this took quite long because we were across the street; 5. Sometimes the staff delivering the things we asked for from the hotel came in plainclothes, which is rather scary; 6. The musky toiletries will be a nightmare for women who don't want to smell like musk; and 7. Hotel transfers were more expensive than they were in Madrid. I saw another hotel three or four buildings down. I'll try that place next time to avoid the stress.
"Great Apartment hotel for Family"
We stayed at a 2Br apartment and loved the spacious, comfortable, clean and well-equipped apartment. Location is perfect. Shopping and restaurants are all very close-by. Staff are friendly and helpful.
"Great apartment for family holiday"
This is perfect for family - for the price of a hotel suite you get perfect location, a very spacious 2 bedroom apartment with full hotel service, a fully functioning kitchen and even washer and dryer. My wife loves the total black out blinds too! Downside being that hotel itself is situated across the road and that's where all facilities are and check in/out location. However for value for money this is extremely hard to beat. Well done hotel Majestic.
We decided to book an apartment on this visit to Barcelona as we were taking part in the half marathon and wanted somewhere the teenage kids could safely stay whilst we were out. Having stayed at the Majestic Hotel previously I knew the level of service would be excellent and it was, the same high standard was extended to the guests at the Majestic Residence. We received a very warm welcome whilst checking in at the hotel. We were quickly taken to our two bedroom apartment on the third floor (R34) and our luggage was delivered soon after. The apartment was spacious, clean and had every amenity you could possibly need during your stay. Capsules were provided for the coffee machine and a daily cleaning pack for use of the dishwasher, washing machine etc ... very useful following our run. Another post event welcome addition was the spa bath which was a delight for our aching muscles! We had two bathrooms - the main with bath, over bath shower, double sink unit, toilet & bidet (and powerful hairdryer), and the second with a massive walk in shower, sink & toilet. There was a large double bed in the main bedroom and twin beds in the second room, ideal when travelling with children. The beds were very comfortable with clean, crisp bedlinen. The apartment was finished to a very high standard, offered top range appliances, and was cleaned daily. There were three TVs which had the usual BBC World News and a couple of other channels in English. The wifi was quick and efficient. The apartment itself was at the rear of the property overlooking a courtyard. Overall it was very quiet given it's central location. The lobby is very clean and smells gorgeous. Umbrellas as supplied both in the room and at the main exit should you need them. You can also use the hotel facilities although we did not on this occasion. As you leave the apartments, turn left and there are two small supermarkets within short walking distance. For larger supermarkets turn right and use either the Carrefour on La Ramblas or the basement within El Cortes Ingles. Checkout was very efficient and our luggage was stored within the hotel until our departure. I really can't recommend these apartments enough and they will now be our first choice when visiting beautiful Barcelona. Muchos gracias to everyone at the Majestic.
